Wanted to share a couple of thoughts about the schedule next season.
Stephenville (scrimmage)- Any time you have a chance to beat Stephenville you take it. Even if its not official.
Parish Episcopal- 4-time defending TAPPS D1 State Champions. They beat Aledo last year 24-17 and have earned my respect. They are talented and have good size and speed but I do think we will tie the series next season. We wont be nearly as inexperienced at key positions. Looking forward to this one! Should be a great game of defending champions in Aledo.
Denton Guyer- Smashed Aledo last year 44-14. We dont get beatdown like that very often. No doubt in my mind they were the best team Aledo played last season. They made the 6AD2 semifinals and lost to state champ Desoto. Yet again, Aledo is looking to avenge the loss. We do return a decent amount of kids and we did sweep Guyer at the sub-varsity level! This game will be much more competitive I believe. Hoping for a win but they are a good program.
Northwest- Finished 6-5 overall, 4th in the district. Northwest is going to be in the mix for the playoffs again. We caught them early last year without their starting QB. No idea what they return but beating the Bearcats in Aledo is difficult.
Azle- I certainly thought Azle would have pushed for a playoff spot last season. They finished 6th in district going 3-7 overall. Looking for them to get back in the mix but Aledo should control this one.
Saginaw- Went 1-9 last year and now is Aledo's homecoming. Someone had to draw the short straw.
The Colony- Barely missed the playoffs last year losing to NW 35-29. Look for them to give it another go and try to make the tournament. Out of everyone on Aledo's schedule this is the program that we are the least familiar with. Could be interesting traveling to that side of the metroplex.
South Hills- This will be a game where backups will get quality playing time. SH went 1-9 last season. Scoring 62 points and giving up 633. Hope things improve for them. Burleson Centennial- Great season last year making it to the region final! I do think they battle for the 2nd seed again in the playoffs but I do think they lose some multi-season starters on offense. Lets see how they follow up a tremendous season. Denton Ryan- Yes Ryan made the playoffs but they did not have a good season by their standards. Look for them to be on a redemption tour and let people know least season was a fluke. I will say they lost two great players in Jordyn Bailey and Anthony Hill. They do have a stud DE that was a freshman or sophomore. Without a doubt this is the most dangerous team that will have a chance to break the district winning streak (currently at 111). Fortunately for Aledo it is at home and we did sweep them at the sub-varsity level.
Brewer- After our "open" week Aledo gets Brewer. Historically Aledo has done well against our neighbors. It will be interesting to see if they bounce back and are competing for a playoff spot.

Couple of questions heading into next season:
1) Does Coach Jones still want the play calling duties or will he give that responsibility to someone else? - I have no doubt Coach Jones will be a great HC for Aledo.
2) Who will fill in on the defensive line? - If we can find some kids that can slow down/stop the run then we will be in a great position to repeat (if healthy).
3) Who will be the two WRs that will win the starting jobs? Aledo lost a lot of production from that position due to graduation. Need a couple of kids to step up and contribute.
4) Can our secondary turn into game changers? This could be one of the best secondaries Aledo has ever had. Return all four and the expectations should be high for this group.
5) Can the O-line improve? We were young last year but improved game by game. Returning four from the state championship game should be a good start.
6) How does the QB respond to being "the guy"? Last season there was a QB competition, this season there is no doubt who the starter is. Can QB1 take it to the next level and build off a tremendous state championship performance?
7) Can our special teams improve from last season? We were solid on the coverage units but our return game was not as good as it has been in the past. It would be nice to see Aledo score on some punt and kick returns.

High/Low
High- we have the team to go 16-0 and win state back to back.
Low- we start the season 0-2 again, go undefeated in district, then get upset in the 3rd or 4th round.

Need a couple of kids to step up and contribute. Seems like the lead candidates are a 6'3 kid returning from injury and our former RB1 moving positions. Pair that with a quality catching TE and the super sophomore. Our passing game should be in good shape.

Couple of questions heading into next season: 4) Can our secondary turn into game changers? This could be one of the best secondaries Aledo has ever had. Return all four and the expectations should be high for this group. On paper this is the most talented group of starters. Both CB have power 5 offers, SS has a D1 offer and FS has a D2 offer. But the question still remains if they will turn into a playmaking group. Week 1 they are going against a really good junior QB. www.hudl.com/video/3/8348937/63b1f54de97a31047cb1eea7

Well AA,its just around the corner with a new AD and a new coach and a lot of talent coming back. A repeat is possible . I will be 81 when the season starts and I would like to see them take it all once more. Enjoy your posts. The 2013 team is the crème de la crème in Aledo football history. Offensively scoring 1,023 points, defensively allowing 147 points, and special teams were outstanding. Special teams stats: 132 extra points made, 13 of 15 field goals made, 8 punt/kick returns for a TD, and Aledo only punted 17 times. This is the most complete team Aledo has ever had. I bring up the 2013 team because I believe this 2023 team has the potential to be another complete and extremely dominate team. First thing first, this district is more difficult than the Fort Worth district that the kids in 2013 played. So do I think they could match the numbers of 2013? No, I dont. However, when you think about the talent on this team, they could win all three phases in every game. Offense: The line returns four starters from the state championship game. They were a solid group that kept improving week after week. Hopefully they can take the next step and take over games, go from good to great. They will need to be consistent pass blockers and be nasty in the run game. If they can do their part then I have no doubt the skill kids are talented enough to score a lot of points. QB1 is a former WR that is an athletic kid. He is a legit dual threat player who started the season on shaky ground. At times he would force the ball and make suboptimal decisions but that goes along with having a new starter at QB. Ultimately, he settled in and was very impressive. This season it will be interesting if he spreads the ball around and gets more pass catchers involved. We have several playmakers out wide that have great hands and can score. A very reliable and hard working TE, a super sophomore WR, former RB1 and explosive playmaker moving out wide, and a 6'3 kid returning from injury who was already making plays this spring. No reason why our passing game is not top notch. Now we can talk about the runners, two new kids to the Aledo program. Both ran for over 1k yards at their former school. I think both RBs will bring a tough running sytle and will be tone setters on offense. www.hudl.com/video/3/18775343/63aa6ed8b53ee408500d2b76Defense: It all starts up front with the DL. Admittedly, I do not know much about the DTs but I do have a good idea about the DEs. They will have two talented sophomores and a junior that will rotate. I do expect the sack numbers to increase from last season. The LBs will be lead by a LSU commit and multi-year starter on the defense. He creates turnovers and pair him with two new starters who are active players, I think this group can be a very good set of LBs. As I mentioned in a previous post, this secondary unit is the most talented group of starters (per college offers). Both CBs have power 5 offers, SS has a D1 offer and FS has a D2 offer. We have quality depth in the secondary and they should be rolling starting week 1. The biggest question will be, can they become game changers and create more turnovers? Not only intercept passes and recover fumbles but then go score. That was very evident when you watched the 2013 team. They had the ability to put points on the board. The 2023 defense as a whole is talented enough to score points and be suffocating but they have to prove it. Last year the defense gave up 261 points, I'd bet the under this season. www.hudl.com/video/3/18768414/639805ee3448920f2c002683Special teams: This is where I think the biggest difference will be between 2013 and 2023. The 2013 team scored 8 TDs on returns. I dont think 2023 will have near that success in the return game. They are solid but based off last year, they dont have a Ryan Newsome type playmaker. And thats ok. Solid special teams and winning field position late in the year makes a big difference. You always worry about the kicking game but it seems like Aledo will have a good kicker this year.

I will be 81 when the season starts and I would like to see them take it all once more. Enjoy your posts. Taking a look at everything, this team could have up to 5 sophomores starting with another 3 being rotational players. One of those backups being the QB. I think this sophomore class will be extremely talented like this senior group. Having a nice mix of underclassmen play on varsity seems to be the formula for continued success. This senior class has had 15 weeks of extra practice time due to the previous playoff runs. Excited to see how this season unfolds.
