Don't like it. At&t stadium is too far from the center of the state and too expensive.

I totally agree that a more centrally located venue should be used.

Last year during the playoff games they had their UIL salesmen being interviewed on the sidelines every few minutes trying to sell how everyone just loved it. BS. The UIL and the TV company loved it as they only had to be in one place. I hate it when sales jerks try to tell you crap like that.

Don't like it. At&t stadium is too far from the center of the state and too expensive. Yep. I thought Houston bought artificial turf to roll out at Reliant for events like this? What happened with that? Somebody needs to give the UIL a clue. While I think everyone gets that Cowgirl Stadium is a fantastic and one of a kind venue, it is NOT geographically friendly to the rest of the state. And it is very expensive to watch a game there. While the 4A and 5A title games are more often dominated with teams from more of the wealthier burbs from the large metro area. When you get down to 3A and below, most of these teams are not from The Woodlands, Southlake, Katy, etc. They are largely rural and far away from the DFW area. Most of those folks don't have high paying jobs and just think what it cost them individually and the school district for a minimum two days up there. Oh, and all of this during Christmas too. All while the good folks at Southlake or Allen get to stay home, sleep in their beds and just bus over to Jerryworld.

I used to be on the side of having all of them at one location so they can be televised. But now that the UIL has ceded the event to the DFW area indefinitely, I kind of wish we could go back to the old system unless they agreed to rotate it between Houston, DFW and San Antonio. Or move it to the Austin where all of the other state title games are played.

How do we as the fans get the other School Districts outside of DFW to contest this one site at Jerry World? How do we get the UIL to have a rotating schedule between Jerry World, Houston Reliant Stadium, SA Alamodome and Austin DKR? Austin might be the hard one with no indoor stadium. I know the UIL does not listen to the fans so we need the School Districts to complain about the unfair advantage the DFW ISD's have for travelling expenses.

I agree with you all guys on it being to 'uncentralized'! It is also unfair to all the schools outside of the DFW area to have to travel there for 4 years running!
However, I understand that the idea is to give these kids playing in these games the 'ultimate experience' and Jerry's World is the best of the best. That is where my understanding ends though and I think if you ask the players, coaches, and hard core hsfb fans they'll tell you they'll play the state title game in a cow pen if they have to because simply put, playing in the state championship game means everything to them........especially the players.
That said, I'm sick of the UIL using the dome stadium only argument. This is football, not the state cheerleading championships! I fully believe SA, Houston, DFW, Austin, College Station, and even Lubbock should get a taste of it! Seriously, if you cannot stand a little cold to play in or watch your team play for a title, you are not a real fan or player to begin with. Add DKR, Kyle, and Jones Stadiums to the list and lets give all teams and fans from throughout the state a fair shot at playing near home and watching games without driving half way around the damn state!
Hell, throw the RGV and the CB in there if they have a stadiumm that seats 40K+ as these are some of the absolute best fans the state has to offer!!!!!!

I'd start with a simple email to DW Rutledge at the TX HS Coaches Association and see what he'd reccommend. DW is a straight shooter IMO and he is all about the kids and fans. He is the reason Judson is so imbedded in TXHSFB history!

Yeah, having all the state title games at Jerry World is great for casual fans who just want to catch three games in one day (as I did last year) but I can see the arguments against. At the same time, complaining about travel for the smaller schools? Eh, if you're in the state title game you're going to have to travel no matter what. If East Bernard plays, I don't know, Canadian in the state championship game, there's no way around traveling long distances for both teams as you'd be talking about a team from the Panhandle playing a team from fringe metro Houston. Tennessee has done the central-site state championship games for as long as I can remember and nobody really complains about it (even though it's a short trip for the teams in Nashville but not for the rest of the state)... I don't know why the UIL doesn't just use DKR or something more centrally located though.

I know the UIL does not listen to the fans so we need the School Districts to complain about the unfair advantage the DFW ISD's have for travelling expenses. Call me old school, but football was made to be played outdoors. Now that DKR has an artificial surface again, that shouldn't be an issue. If Calallen made it, sitting in cold, wet weather would be secondary. But if DKR is not even an option due to those factors, then rotating it between the three indoor venues is the only fair way to do it. There is nothing wrong with the Alamodome. While it might not be up to NFL standards with flash and bling, it is more than adequate for events like the High School football championships. I would think the first person to contact would be your local Superintendent. Maybe a friendly letter to the UIL Director might be away to get their attention that this is being discussed and they should think about these variables going forward.

In Tennessee, there was also no such thing as indoor football. Same in Kentucky when I was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY (split by Kentucky & Tennessee State Lines). Kentucky does the same and no indoor facilities. Kentucky allows the Private Schools to play in the Public Schools Athletics. So that recruiting battle goes on.
