Ortega is mixed race, his dad is black and mother is hispanic. And by the looks neither of his parents have any height. Im looking forward to him doing his thing on the gridiron, the coach waited far to late in the season to move him to qb and the team never really got to gel but Im telling you this offense will be special. The returning receivers and what is in the pipeline will provide some headaches for alot of teams. Im glad they are being overlooked because they will surprise some teams, as I stated earlier the kid had played in one other game as a qb and lit PLC up for 359yards passing and 122 rushing and that was with him hobbled by a bad hamstring. Who won?

I guess you think Ortega did it all by himself? I can assure you that the other 10 guys helping in his effort don't appreciate that. Therein lies VE's problem....no teamwork. When they face adversity they will self destruct. Try doing it like PLC does.....11 guys-1goal. No 1 man clinic....

Your coach also took advantage of Plc by making it a Thursday night game, you guys came off a bye and we played the Friday before, and we still won. This year the tables are turned. It's a Saturday game, and you got calallen the next week and we have the bye. See how that works out for ya Football was invented in Portlavaca

JMO But all that really matters is if a coach cant get the players to come out for and buy in to what he's trying to do. If he can do that the community will get behind the team/school and things will start to roll from there. Just like it has in PLC. Hoe long will it last....... We'll have to wait and see. ' hoe long''. Lol. I agree to the whole statement!

In the fall, I talked to a few players from a middle school here in Victoria who just got killed by Refugio middle school/JH. They were making excuses that Refugio used varsity players and they are on steroids blah blah blah. They got beat because they only work out during their football period. They are at the mall, hanging out at the pool, on facebook, etc. Case in point, ran into a student last week..."So, how's your summer?" Kid-"okay, boring. Didn't do too much." I was in Refugio for work back in June. Saw a young man I knew, "So, how's your summer." Kid-"Ah man, been working out, running, getting ready for the season." That's the difference right there. Say it once, I'll say it again. Gonzalez is not the elite coach VISD will have you believe. He had a few good season at Ray, but he also had a stud QB. Not prior, nor since has he ever taken a team to the playoffs. Both Victoria schools have good, family men as coaches, just not good coaches. Nonsense, nonsense, and more nonsense. I still don't get all the Gonzales bashing. Umm yes he did have a stud QB when he was at Ray. But why is that a mark against him? It's stupid. Are you gonna say that Andrus had a stud QB at Flour Bluff last season so the success doesn't count for Andrus either? All of Calallen's success comes when they have stud QBs, so does that not count either? I'm not gonna name every stud player that every successful team has, but I think you get the point. Yes Gonzales had a stud QB when he was the coach at Ray, but he obviously knew how to use that stud QB and had something to do with his success.

Wow I just read all the posts. PLC fans are the most ridiculous ever. I thought you were just like this when it came to Alice and just to spite me. But you're not kidding. You really are delusional and ridiculous. There is so much BS in your comments that I'm waiting for a 3D cow to jump out of my computer screen. Holy cow, let me make a quick call to all the world's scientists and tell them I know where the center of the Universe is, it's in Port Lavaca's football program. I can't wait to watch Calallen beat that crab butt and drop you back down to reality.

Never said they couldn't. But I am saying they can't sustain it. Reeve and weddell were excellent coaches. Mcangus n gonzales csnt hold those men's playbook I'm pretty sure you have no clue what you are talking about or you would know Mcangus was the oc for reeves, so in fact, he did hold the playbook. I think it is taking a while to kick the idea of them being a monster 5a size and kids thinking sport specialization. Once they realize they can participate in more than 1 sport there numbers will go up. Also I don't know if you have been in the hallways of either Vic school or you would know like every south tx school their Hispanic population is rising, both schools are near 70percent. So most of those athletes you keep going on about walking the hall have 5'7" genetics.... Let's talk about what else is in their genetics... the greatest NFL lineman ever, and also probably the most respected player ever in the NFL, is ANTHONY MUNOZ. Oh and the greatest tight end of all time has Mexican blood in his ancestory, TONY GONZALEZ. Just the facts Mr Stereotype.

Was there a team that he coached that held opponents to under 25-30 points on average a game. He knows not about defense.
