I watched the highlights from Holmes loss to Jay last week - Holmes has zero passing attack. If MacArthur can limit the Holmes running attack, they could be looking at a 2-0 start to the season! Man I hope they do win. That would be awesome!

Looks like the Wurst Bowl will be streamed on the BGC App.
I believe I heard that Victoria East game may be streamed on YouTube as well.

There was a time when the game was played in late October, coinciding with Wurstfest, hence, Wurst Bowl between the two New Braunfels teams. Now it’s not possible with both teams being in different classes periodically. This game may eventually fade in popularity with a New Braunfels vs Long Creek matchup that may eventually come into prominence. Sauerkraut Bowl? Who knows what it will be called.

One thing I picked up while watching Canyon's first game vs Austin High - Canyon killed themselves with mistakes on offense and special teams (especially in the 1st half). If they play sloppy against NB, they will get rolled...

Looks like the Wurst Bowl will be streamed on the BGC App. I believe I heard that Victoria East game may be streamed on YouTube as well. All home games for East and West are streamed on YouTube. I think it's VISD Livestream. However it's usually only video and not the best They have broadcasted this game with announcers before. I believe it was a radio station that did it in the past. I'm trying to find out if they are doing it again this year.

I finally got a chance to watch Brennan vs Reagan from last week - Brennan did not play well. There were also some coaching errors. If they do that against SV tonight, it won't be as close. Brennan lost both coordinators from last year, maybe it is just growing pains. They do have skill position talent on both sides of the ball, but there was a lot of inconsistency in their execution. I'm guessing SV wins by 2-3 touchdowns.

They looked exactly the same way in week 1 in 2023 when Steele absolutely took them to the woodshed. The final score could have been a hell of a lot worse if Steele hadn't called off the dogs early. So, I'm not ready at all to say it is because they lost their coordinators for this season. They ended up turning it around and having a pretty good year last year so we will find out tonight if they made any progress. Take it to em Rangers!!!!!

Here were my keys to the SV game with Brennan: Looking for effective OLine push on rushing attack better execution of kicking game, see the pass rush get loose and affect the passing game.
SV got no push, missed 3 kicks and got zero sacks. Add to that bad tackling, uncharacteristic unforced errors, and a somewhat questionable game plan, you get a loss like the one the Rangers experienced tonight.
They gave away 14 points in the kicking game of you include the kickoff return that resulted in a fumble into the end zone. That was one reason I wished they were challenged more last week in their opener. The reliance on the QB run in the first half when it wasn't working was a little mystifying. Brennan stayed home and bottled SV up.
All is correctable, but I do worry that they got physically dominated, especially the offensive line. One offensive touchdown will not win you too many games. Looks like SV has some things to work on this week!

In the district, the big surprises were Pieper handling SA Johnson and SV losing to Brennan. NB's loss to Canyon seemed closer than the final score, Wagner losing to Dripping Springs, Seguin losing to Millere were both expected as was B-C beating Medina Valley. Vic East losing to Vic West wasn't a big surprise from what intel I've gotten from the board.
Next week is the final tuneup, and most of the teams have some things to work on.

Unicorns did a 180 and lost the Wurst Bowl 38-21. The game wasn’t as lopsided as the score indicated. There was two minutes left in the game and NB decided to go for it on 4th down at their 10 and didn’t convert. So Canyon went 10 yards and scored as the game expired. Unicorns Oline has some trouble in this one. This is the slow rolling offense I kind of expected as the season started. QB Namken was out briefly but not enough to really impact the game. Good job Cougars. This game will continue to tilt in Canyon’s favor as the school grows and NB enrollment declines in the immediate aftermath.

MacArthur lost a close one to Holmes Sat night, leaves only 2 unbeaten teams in the district, Pieper and Boerne Champion. Two winless teams, Vic East and Seguin (actually 3, but Wagner has only played one game). Everyone else is level par. Last chance this week before district play starts.

I watched the Pieper/Johnson game last night. It was a good game where Pieper took advantage of a couple TOs and hit some big plays on Johnson. Pieper got an INT and a fumble recovery as well as did a great job getting 2 stops on 4th down on Johnson.

This weeks District 13-5A-1 Schedule
Thursday, 12 September
Brazoswood @ Seguin, 7p
Friday, 13 September
Boerne Champion @ Laredo Alexander Pieper @ Davenport, 7p MacArthur @ Veterans Memorial, 7p Gregory-Portland @ Victoria East, 7p Del Rio @ New Braunfels, 7p Wagner @ San Marcos. 7:30p Smithson Valley @ Madison, 7:30p
Last chance to clean stuff up before district play begins. Wagner, Seguin and Victoria East are trying to win their first games, good luck to them. Pieper and B-C are rolling and want to keep things humming. SV and NB looking for answers after tough weeks. I'll take Seguin to win their first this week with the other winners being Pieper, B-C, SV, NB, and Wagner.
The MacArthur and Vic East games look like losses to me, even though their respective opponents haven't exactly hit it out of the park either.
