That's good news! I read on another forum that some of the guys that play baseball will not be playing football this season for East. Sux man ..... I know of a few dudes from last year that were a huge part of the team and contributed greatly. Some only Sophomores last year... . I know of at least two. Steele (JR) and Youngblood (SR) were both starters last year and aren’t playing. Those are the two I was thinking about, both contributed greatly to the team last season. And both were fun to watch. I will miss them out there this year.....

That's a pity - I know that the SV coaches encourage multisport participation and have a number of football athletes participating in BB, Wrestling, Baseball and Track, amongst others. Best wishes to those kids, and to the football team that undoubtedly misses them. They are in the toughest district in Region 4, and will need all hands on deck! Coach Reeve was a huge believer in multi sport athletes as well. He preached it daily....... I'm not sure why they are not playing football, but I wish them the best as well. But I'll surely miss watching them out there this year!

I’m not sure why they aren’t playing but doubt the coaches are discouraging playing multi sports , definitely going to miss them this year.

2024 District 13-5A-I Week 1 Standings Boerne Champion …………….. 0-0 …… 1-0 New Braunfels …………….………0-0 ….. 1-0 San Antonio MacArthur ………0-0 …… 1-0 San Antonio Pieper …………….0-0 …… 1-0 Smithson Valley ………………….0-0 …… 1-0 San Antonio Wagner …………..0-0 …… 0-0 Seguin ………………………………..0-0 …… 0-1 Victoria East ……………………….0-0 …… 0-1 Week 1 Results Boerne Champion 31, (6A) Laredo United South 17 New Braunfels 48, (6A) San Antonio Madison 0 San Antonio MacArthur 26, (6A) San Antonio Lee 2 San Antonio Pieper 38, Boerne 36 Smithson Valley 45, (6A) San Antonio Roosevelt 0 San Antonio Wagner vs. Mexico - cancelled San Antonio Alamo Heights 47, Seguin 19 Georgetown 54, Victoria East 14 So I finally got a chance to watch the SV/Roosy game and came away impressed. No, Roosevelt is not a great team but they are also not nearly as bad as SV made them look. SV absolutely dominated them leading at the half 38-0 and if SV had chosen to open up the offense more it would have been worse. Typical SV team. Very solid on defense, never out of position, and getting hats to the ball in a hurry. Also a very solid SV offense with equal ability to run it or throw it. I didn't see any superstars out there for SV in this game but just a whole bunch of football playing machines as usual. Does anyone know if the NB/Madison game is available anywhere to watch or the Boerne Champion/United South game?

I'm pretty sure you can get both on youtube - I was watching B-C/United live Friday night (here--> www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg344fDx8rg) , and I'm pretty sure I saw the NB/Madison show up in my youtube this weekend, but I can't find it...

13-5A-1 Schedule for week 2:
Friday, Sept 6: Holmes @ MacArthur (Heroes) 7p Brennan @ SV 7p Medina Valley @ B-C 7p Seguin @ CC Miller (Buccaneer) 7p Victoria East @ Victoria West (Memorial) 7p New Braunfels @ NB Canyon 7:30p Wagner @ Dripping Springs 7:30p SA Johnson @ Pieper 7:30p
The schedule gets much tougher this week after a good week last week! NB vs Canyon, SA Johnson vs Pieper and Brennan vs SV are the marquee matchups in my mind. Almost everyone is playing 6A schools with the exception of Vic East and Seguin, and those two have tough matchups as well. We may start to see how good these teams truly are. Good luck to all!

I'm going with Mac in that game, and if Vic East's QB is back, I like them to fix some stuff this week and beat West. I'm not sure that Seguin can keep it close with Miller, I think it may be a blowout. I have a hard time picking SV to win by 14 in my heart (I guess I'm a negative person?), but I suspect you are right in my head. The rest looks pretty good to me!

Yup, I like how Mac started last week and really do hope they get another W this week. VE/VW is a rivalry and a toss up most of the time I definitely feel SV will roll this week. Brennan just did not look good at all last week and I think Hill will absolutely take advantage of every crack they showed. I just can't see them fixing it in a week over there at Brennan.

West looks way better than east ar the moment, and with east missing several key players for the season, I see west winning this by 10+. I don’t think east has it this year.

I hope that isn't the case - this district could send them to a 1-2 win season if that's true... I watched the replay of the East vs Georgetown game that you posted. VE is a far cry from the team they were last year. However it's the first game of the season, and getting Kolle back will make a huge difference offensively. What frightens me is the defensive play as well as special teams. I thought the defense would be solid this year and their special teams was on fire last year. Steele did an amazing job returning punts, but if he's not playing......... And their defense was on the field the entire game against Georgetown, so we'll see. If they play like they did against Georgetown in this District they will get destroyed. As far as the West game, well it's a rivalry game so ya never know. I don't think Lockhart has much, so beating them doesn't impress me. I think East cleans up a lot of their mistakes and shocks the West Side in a close one!

I watched the Champion/LUS game.
Champion has a good young QB that with time is going to be very, very good. BC is a solid, well coached team. I didn't see any players offensively that looked like the kind that can take the top off a defense. They do have some WRs that catch the ball well. Defensively I'm honestly not sure after watching this game because I'm not sure how good or not LUS offense is.

Does anyone know if the NB/Madison game is available anywhere to watch or the Boerne Champion/United South game? I wish the NB—Madison game was available somewhere to give it another watch. I’m having a hard time determining is Madison is just really down or if NB is just better than last year. They flat out dominated the Mavs. Their only plays to speak of where a goal line stand at the 1 as the first half was ending that would’ve added another TD to NB’s already lopsided win. That, and a blocked XP against NB. Can a coach make that much of a difference? NB’s subvarsity teams from 1-2 years ago weren’t anything special, so the win was a pleasant surprise. If it wasn’t for the Madison win, Canyon would be a clear favorite as a 6A program. But yea. I like NB’s chances this weekend. SV should top Brennan. They totally blanked Roosevelt and Brennan appears to be a bit down this year. Maybe the power is shifting to Sotomayor? Wagner hasn’t played an actual game yet, so I’ll take Drip on a game that they were probably going to win anyway. Pieper will hit hard, but fall to Johnson. It’s still a relatively new program and playing Boerne might not be the same as the Jags. Seguin is in for a long night vs Corpus Christi Miller. They lack a defense and they no longer have a high octane offense like a few years ago. I hope they have some huge adjustments that we don’t know about yet. Victoria East… I’m clueless on Coastal Bend teams. Good luck East!

I watched the highlights from Holmes loss to Jay last week - Holmes has zero passing attack. If MacArthur can limit the Holmes running attack, they could be looking at a 2-0 start to the season!
