Considering that the furthest distance according to maps that any team has traveled to Arlington was Gruver this year. It was a little over 6 hours. Calallen traveled right at 6 hours when they played for the title a few years ago. Considering that it took Canadian almost 9 hours to get to Houston in 2015, a little over 6 is easy. Again it is the small schools year in and year out that have the greater travel distance then the big schools. I would consider it an issue but the big schools have had wonderful crowds at AT&T so it doesn't appear to affect them too bad. To me if the small schools don't mind then it should be a mute point because it does't seem to be affecting their attendance. Now one thing I could do if I was the UIL would be to give non Metroplex teams a larger take of the gate since they are having to house teams, bands, pep squads etc... and the Metroplex teams don't Stop with the small school nonsense or maybe you are not aware that Refugio, Falls City, Shiner, Cameron ect are in South Texas. Guess they don't matter in your small world smh.

Y'all are wasting your time. You'll never convince folks from DFW that the world doesn't revolve around them.
Thank you, next!

Y'all are wasting your time. You'll never convince folks from DFW that the world doesn't revolve around them. Thank you, next! There is some truth this, but I don't really blame them for thinking like this. I know a number of folks who have moved up to DFW area and the only time they come back down this way is to visit their family and most of them fly down here. They might go to the beach or go to a favorite venue of theirs from back in the day, but that is about it. Their kids are used to being "entertained" meaning sitting in a deer blind for hours or a fishing boat in the Laugna Madre will bore the hell out of them. They would rather take direct flight from DFW to a ski resort or somewhere and that is more their thing. Stop at places like Concan, the Guadalupe, hanging out in DT San Antonio going or coming back if they are driving? Ah heck no! Ok they might stop in Austin for a bite to eat and Bucees in New Braunfels for a potty break, but that's it as far as exploring Texas south of Bureleson or DeSoto. But in the their defense , they have everything they need within the metroplex to function without having to visit the rest of the state such as world class medical facilities, universities, two major airports, and plenty of employment opportunities in almost every career field available. Many people who work sales in the DFW are confined to their region unlike people who work sales who live in Austin, SA, Houston, Corpus or the RGV where their whole sales region might be Austin southward. Likewise many in the legal, banking, medical, engineering, etc fields have the same arraignment or they are routinely transferred among the metro areas from Austin southward. In other words, many of us who live in the above noted areas in this part of the state do not see our particular metro area as the center of the state of Texas because many aspects of our daily lives require us to expand our boundaries.

People in DFW go to sporting events to be seen. They think they are LA celebrities. I lived there 4 years and went to Cowgirl, Mavs, Stars, Ranger games and it was always the same boring crowd golf clapping. They sell sushi at Cowgirl stadium! For football games! LOL People in Houston don't have to leave the area either...the world's biggest medical center and jobs of all kinds. 2 major airports...pretty much everything Dallas has except we have friendlier people and less $30K millionaires.

Championship games attendance numbers. 2015 was in Houston. Title game.........2017..........2016............2015. 6A Division 1......43,191........30,013..........28,841 6A Division II.....23,712........40,318..........43,718 5A Division I......24,975........35,089..........15,743 5A Division II.....28,163........25,983..........13,479 4A Division I......18,043........24,139..........17,932 4A Division II.....20,851........17,653..........13,635 3A Division I......12,636........20,334..........10,357 3A Division II.....12,636........18,812...........9,291 2A Division I.......7,431........15,017...........6,528 2A Division II......9,137.........7,953...........6,619 How many of those in attendance were fans of the 2 teams involved? That's the point you aren't understanding. The state championship game should be about the 2 teams involved not who the UIL can make the most money off of. I will agree with you that a lot of the attendance depends on the schools involved. some schools travel better. I wish they would push harder for SA as it is more centrally located. Doesnt sound like SA seems to give a damn though or they would make the Alamo dome more appealing. I also wonder how well parking would be. It gets pretty bad when they have concerts there

You and many thousands all over the country will be able to watch, record and enjoy the games including the hometown fans of the teams playing. The same could be said if the game is played literally anywhere else. So like I said it should come down to the 2 teams involved not who the UIL or FSSW can make the most money off. No, it can't. TV requires the games to be in one place that can support their operation.
