You're not that slick. It isn't about FIFA men vs women. Stick to the USA men vs women argument and those numbers you threw out change. Also you're damn right the two communities involved in the state title games should be what matters most. That's the way it was forever. And it could still be televised as it ALWAYS HAS before all this predetermined site nonsense. Did you just start watching football last year? Nothing slick about facts. You obviously don't know how the world cup soccer players pay is determined. To have ALL the championship games televised they need to be in a single location in a manageable time progression. That make them available to everyone including those who need to record them to view later or repeatedly. This includes the teams home crowd and those of them who could not go to the game regardless of where it was played for any number of reasons. Work, health, finances on and on. Nope. Best deal is making the games available to practically everyone on TV to see and keep. You still aren't getting it. A state championship is an important thing for the 2 teams and communities involved. What random people think about it or if they get to tivo it should not play a part in anything. Those are the most ridiculous examples I have heard yet.

Playing the games at ATT draws bigger crowds and allows for the TV broadcast of games which adds money from ads. It’s no coincidence that the UIL wouldn’t allow offseason workouts the last two days. They did it to draw coaches to the Coaching Clinic. It’s all about money.

TV money. TV wants the games in one place. As of now there are only two choices that can handle that. DFW and Houston facilities. Houston had their chance to support a rotation of locations between north and south Texas and their pitiful attendance clearly showed their indifference while DFW packs the house. Fairy tales, unicorns and what's fair whines don't make the world go round or the womens soccer team would shut up. I was at the games in 2015 ... I just remember every Houston team winning their games ... The North shore / Westlake OT game was one to remember ...

I'd still like to get an answer on revenue generated by the championship game in total gate receipts and the expenses which are then paid out related to the championship week. And we all know Jerry is probably keeping a sizable cut of the concession revenues as any other venue owner would do especially if he is giving the facility for use at a discount.
At the end of the day, if the net income brought in just from game receipts is a drop in the bucket, then all the talk about the crowds should be secondary.
I would bet my bottom dollar the vast majority of revenue generated by the championships is the TV contract with Fox Sports and the exclusive sponsorships you can't get enough of being advertised and promoted during the whole event. You know, Baylor Scott and White, Ford, DQ just to name a few. I mean if you don't have their commercials burned into your head by the second day, then you aren't watching enough of it.
Which means the whole thing could be held at any venue in Texas and the UIL would get the exact TV dollars if all games were televised in sequence. They could do it Brownsville, Canyon, El Paso, Texarkana or somewhere in between and they would get the same TV deal.
Like I said in a previous post, if the UIL is sincere about rotating this event between the three major indoor stadiums, then make a serious attempt to engage the stake holders in San Antonio and Houston. To this point the UIL really hasn't publicly been serious about doing the rotation because when you watch the broadcasts, it's all about how great things are up there, blah, blah, blah..... If I am a decision maker in San Antonio for example and watching the games, I'd be like why even try to approach the UIL big dogs? They are so mesmerized about this place, it wouldn't be worth sending a simple email.
If Houston doesn't want to participate, then do it between SA and DFW just to make the DFW area have to travel south of Waco for once in their lives.

I too understand it's about the money but, it's a big advantage to teams around the DFW Metroplex. The teams up north have a 6 to 7 hour drive in some cases. Neutral sites is the fair way to determine game location (IMO).

San Antonio A Dome is too small. That leaves two choices. Houston blew it. Tha Alamodome is certainly big enough for the event. Their issue is locker room capacity. Ok, this is when both sides come together and agree to a ten year deal with it rotating from SA to DFW every other year on the condition SA fixes that issue. The best deals are made when the two parties have something serious to offer to each other. If I am SA decision maker and I can be assured for five-years with in the next ten years, this event will be staged at our facility then I might dip into the special accounts I'm sure the city has set up to accommodate events at the Alamodome and get it done. This would also set the wheels in motion for tourist related parties to do what they can to accommodate the crowds with hotel space ,etc.

The issue with the Alamodome is that they don't have enough dressing rooms from what I was told. Also you are competing with a much bigger tourist pool for hotels in SA during the holidays thus driving hotel prices real high around the Alamodome and downtown. Houston was notified according to a press release about 5 months in advance of the games. I think they had enough time to get ready. Unfortunately Dallas is closer to most of the small schools year in and year out. It is about equal distance for Austin schools and 3 1/2 hours is not too bad for Houston fans to travel. Also the allure of Jerry World is much more greater for the casual fan to see a game then the Alamodome or NRG. The population of the Metroplex helps attract larger crowds as well. Hotel prices around that time would be just about the same as they are in the DFW area and Houston. It's before Christmas and the main tourist rush in SA is post Christmas with the Alamo Bowl and New Years Eve. And SA is hell of a lot more accommodating for the fan who wants to stay close to the dome in downtown vs the other two venues. More hotel choices ranging from budget to four or five star. Same with restaurants and being able to park and walk from the hotel you are staying at.

My godson coached at Lone Star in 2015 when they played Cedar Park in the 5A championship at Reliant and I attended that game. Then it was moved back to ATT the next year when Calallen played Aledo. No comparison on the excitement in the atmosphere. I can see why it was moved back to Arlington. Don't know about you but I was pretty excited that game in Houston. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Central Texas schools really do not have a say so in this because a three hour drive is not a big deal. When we went to State in 2014 against Ennis, at AT&T, we had as many in the stands as they did. I get it though, if you are coming from the south that can be a long drive to have communities fully attend. I will tell you from a player's father perspective, the boys love playing in the NFL stadiums and the fans enjoy them as well. We played in Mclaren Stadium, before Baylor even did, the Alamodome, and DKR for our run to State and they do not compare to AT&T even if the local team can fill it twice as much.

Why should the UIL have to convince SA to upgrade their locker rooms? SA should do that on their own if they want to get in the mix. Secondly, y'all keep saying it's a pain to drive up from down south. What if the game was in SA or Houston and you have panhandle teams or an El Paso team make it to state? Y'all just going to say sucks for them? DFW brings in the most money, can accommodate the UIL request, and is the most central place of the 3 locations people want to consider.

You are missing the point.... If I owned a facility and was approached by group X to host an event because of location and it met most of the boxes on the checklist but lacked a couple of items, I'd want an ironclad agreement your event would be at my location for set dates before I would spend the money to make those changes to check the remaining boxes. .

No I'm not missing the point! The UIL doesnt have to work with SA and agree to anything. Everything is working out just fine in DFW. SA needs to make the effort and financial commitment to upgrading. Then the UIL might open up talks and I'd bet they would be open to the idea. Simple fact is people from outside DFW are willing to drive to the stadium and DFW casual fans show up. If the numbers werent good then they wouldnt be doing it here. It is all about the money. The feelings of people that have to travel from other parts of the state dont matter as much. As long as it makes cents then it doesnt matter if it really makes sense.

The reality is that the UIL controls the venue for state championship games in most sports. Volleyball, softball, baseball etc are all controlled venues with those being in the Austin area. The problem is that football is a much bigger sport with a larger audience so they selected ATT. The other part of this is the opportunity for the boys playing in the game. I can tell you that the Calallen boys absolutely loved playing at ATT and would love to go again. It’s a memory they will never forget walking onto that field. That’s why Danaher likes to use the Alamodome when possible. It’s just cool. But the Alamodome doesn’t want the championship games. It’s a big expense and a lot of work. They make that obvious every year. In fact they don’t even make the stadium available for playoff games on many weeks. So actually the UIL is in fact very limited on options.

The year it was in Houston it sucked because a lot of teams were new teams that no one had ever heard of or cared about. No one wants to see Frisco Lone Star. Who are they?
That being said, Houston is just different than DFW. I have lived in both places. Houston is an international city and very diverse. We have huge populations of people that did not grow up here and simply do not follow American football. DFW on the other hand, is not diverse at all. lol. And people grew up on HS football. I love Houston because of the diversity and culture that I did not find while in Dallas. But on the other hand, DFW supports better because there are more people there born and raised in Texas on HS football.
You will never convince someone from DFW that it shouldn't be in DFW or that it should be rotated. People in DFW are pretentious and self centered. And they only go to sporting events to be seen and say they were there. I'm glad I do not live there anymore.
