I agree with Cochino.
The UIL makes the DFW area teams travel for state championships in other sports and football shouldn't be any different. Either rotate the darn thing even if it calls for restructuring the whole event such as having it over two weekends or dual locations so the locker room thing can be irrelevant. Or go back to letting the coaches pick the championship game site.

TV money. TV wants the games in one place. As of now there are only two choices that can handle that. DFW and Houston facilities. Houston had their chance to support a rotation of locations between north and south Texas and their pitiful attendance clearly showed their indifference while DFW packs the house. Fairy tales, unicorns and what's fair whines don't make the world go round or the womens soccer team would shut up.

UIL modifies targeting rule for upcoming season:
HOUSTON – Mason quarterback Otto Wofford was ejected for targeting during the Punchers’ Class 2A, Division I quarterfinal win over Refugio last season at the Alamodome. The move angered coach Kade Burns and the Mason fans, and Refugio coach Jason Herring agreed the ejection was severe. If a similar foul were to occur this season, the player might not have to leave the game.
“From the public’s perception it’s either overcalled or under called,” said UIL Director of Athletics Susan Elza, “and I think our coaches have that perception as well.” Elza spoke about the changes to the targeting rule Monday during the UIL’s annual press conference at the Texas High School Coaches Association’s coaching school. The UIL has been following NCAA rules on targeting, but is unable to review plays and decided to institute two levels of targeting.
“The first level is an egregious targeting with an intent to harm,” Elza said. “Then, there is a targeting where the player had no intent. Targeting without intent will be a 15-yard penalty, but the player is not ejected. A player who commits a targeting with intent to harm is automatically ejected. A player who commits a second targeting foul is ejected regardless of the level.” Other rule changes instituted this season will prohibit two-man wedges on kick returns, and a blind-side block on any play will be a personal foul. Elza said the response from coaches on the UIL allowing two hours of sport-specific workouts during the summer has been positive. “One thing we’ve been hearing resoundingly is some kids can’t afford to get a quarterback coach or a receiver coach,” she said. “This allowed them to be coached by their own coach and not have to find a way to be able to pay for it. We think it’s a good step in the right direction, and overall what we’re hearing from our coaches is they’re very excited about it.”
But UIL Executive Director Charles Breithaupt said the organization is still not ready to allow coaches to coach their 7on7 teams. “First of all, we don’t have consensus from our coaches that they want to do that,” Breithaupt said. “Secondly, it won’t resolve the problem for recruiting purposes because it doesn’t stop select teams from being formed. “There are some coaches who want to coach 7on7 because they don’t want the third-party coaches coaching their kids. There’s another group who doesn’t want burnout either.” Breithaupt also announced that the 2020 state championship games to celebrate the 100th anniversary of UIL football will be held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Elza said no decision has been made on awarding home field in the first round of the playoffs to the higher seed in Class 4A and smaller schools, as is done for Class 6A and 5A schools.

But attendance in the whole scheme of things with these championships is a small piece of the pie as far as revenue for the UIL. The UIL would still profit the same for whatever TV contract no matter where the games are held if they chose a central location elsewhere. I would like to give the UIL the benefit of the doubt on this, but I wonder if they have really approached SA and Houston with a proposal to have it rotate between the three locations and one that could be signed tomorrow if all sides were serious about it. Me thinks possibly one or both of those cites might be balking because the UIL at least publicly lets it known they are fully on board with Jerryworld until further notice. Yes Houston didn't put on it's best show, but a few factors went against them as far as attendance that year plus it kind of being thrown at them at the last minute.

San Antonio A Dome is too small. That leaves two choices. Houston blew it.

The issue with the Alamodome is that they don't have enough dressing rooms from what I was told. Also you are competing with a much bigger tourist pool for hotels in SA during the holidays thus driving hotel prices real high around the Alamodome and downtown. Houston was notified according to a press release about 5 months in advance of the games. I think they had enough time to get ready. Unfortunately Dallas is closer to most of the small schools year in and year out. It is about equal distance for Austin schools and 3 1/2 hours is not too bad for Houston fans to travel. Also the allure of Jerry World is much more greater for the casual fan to see a game then the Alamodome or NRG. The population of the Metroplex helps attract larger crowds as well.

Who do they think they are. Don't they know only non-celebrities like us have a right to an opinion. And the tv money shouldn't factor in to any of this. A state championship game should revolve around the players and the 2 communities involved in the game, not around Fox sports or the UIL or random fans whose teams aren't even in the game.

FIFA earned upwards of $6 billion from the 2018 men's World Cup. Meanwhile, the women's 2019 World Cup is estimated to earn FIFA about $131 million. The women were paid a far higher percentage of the revenue they generated than the men. Don't think they really want equal. Money shouldn't matter everything should be freeeeee. Yeah, right. Not just Texas but the whole country get to watch and enjoy the championships. Pretty sad to limit it to two communities.

Stick to the USA men vs women argument and those numbers you threw out change. Also you're damn right the two communities involved in the state title games should be what matters most. That's the way it was forever. And it could still be televised as it ALWAYS HAS before all this predetermined site nonsense. Did you just start watching football last year?

Well, this topic is about to jump off the rails.
But back to the central theme here. If I recall, the year Houston hosted the title games it mostly featured new schools that did not have a built-in fan base or name-based recognition outside of their own community. That does not help sell the casual fan on coming out.
I've had my soapbox moment here several times that smalls schools should not have to play a state championship game on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday morning at 11AM. Fell free to search my post history if it's still there.

My godson coached at Lone Star in 2015 when they played Cedar Park in the 5A championship at Reliant and I attended that game. Then it was moved back to ATT the next year when Calallen played Aledo. No comparison on the excitement in the atmosphere. I can see why it was moved back to Arlington.

You obviously don't know how the world cup soccer players pay is determined. To have ALL the championship games televised they need to be in a single location in a manageable time progression. That make them available to everyone including those who need to record them to view later or repeatedly. This includes the teams home crowd and those of them who could not go to the game regardless of where it was played for any number of reasons. Work, health, finances on and on. Nope. Best deal is making the games available to practically everyone on TV to see and keep.
