You are using hearsay and calling it fact. LOL! Show proof in leagl documents through the Freedom of Information Act. I bet you cannot find one document to say anything about Finley under investigation. Hearsay is not Fact. It is rumor only. So you are quite a Talebearer. You just see an opportunity to attack Cochino. ************************ This was not hearsay. UIL was investigating it. I could give a rats ass if you believe me or not. I gain nothing from making this story up. You are a *********. Lighten up Francis. This ain't a war.LOL! I see that struck a nerve with you. Such thin skin you have. Hey Batter Batter... SWING!

I see where he moved to VE but where does it say he moved back to Edna for basketball then back again to graduate? First of all, this West guy on here is trying to say Yates wasnt from Edna. That it was always just a rumor. I'm not sure what the problem here is? Please explain to me what I have to gain by making up this story about Finley being investigated by UIL for this? This is what I said for the record... It is pretty obvious that I was speaking about his dad in the 2nd paragraph.

Finley was never under UIL INVESTIGATION. Yates moved to Victoria before The schools split. He and his family lived about two blocks from East HS. Finley got in trouble for saying his players were playing like pussies at half time of the West and East game. East was behind at half, came out 2nd half and blew West out. He was old school tough. Didn't pat kids on the butt and tell them how hard they were playing if they were not. He got on bad side of administration for wanting more fore his athletes. He thought their facilities were a joke and was vocal about it. He tried to raise money for a fiedhouse and a weight room. Admin shot him down. He had the program rolling! They were winning at all levels.

I just don't think its the coach. Its the kids and the community. And the Victoria Memorial experiment proves that. They couldn't even win big with that super team. To some extent, that can be correct about community attitude. But on the flip side, even a good coach can get more mileage out of kids and light a fire under a mediocre to dead program. PLC, as much as it may bother you, is one program to note who failed to really get going even with Gary Davenport (that's who was there before Whit??). Robstown could have probably been spanked by a number of 2A and 1A schools before Wood came in. But look at Midland Lee and Odessa Permian. When was the last time we've heard them even make noise in the playoffs? It's been a while because they haven't found the right fit. Speaking of Davenport, when he went to Carrol he wasn't too successful, but neither was Hite who ran a good program in the RGV at Weslaco. Carroll had and probably still has to many darn helicopter parents and of course non football people doing the hiring and firing at the CCISD front office. Again, Gonzalez might be a good coach and you could be 100% on the mark about the situation. But with a still trying to establish itself type program like VE,at the very least the AD should have hired someone with a winning record at his current job or a top assistant who's resume is filled with success at programs from start ups to established. You can't tell me their wasn't at least one or two men who had those qualities who applied for the job. What they did in the VISD with East is exactly what the CCISD did with Carroll. Davenport actually got passed round 1 of the playoffs during his two years at carroll. Which is more then what they usually do now. He was oustered because he would not start a school board members son at QB. Opted instead for Arismendi who is now a principal at one of the CC schools. He would have made carroll into a powerhouse. He didn't win enough in pl. But he literally started from square one. Pl kids hadn't had an offseason program for the better part of a decade before he came in. He changed a lot of things in Calhoun county and suffice to say Whitaker reaped the rewards. When davenport left. He left two classes of JH kids that had never lost a game. Had he stayed thru his contract he would have won with them as well. But most of his assistants had moved onto other head coaching jobs. He chose to leave with the understanding that Jay Newberry would take over. He was lied to.

That being said. Whitaker has done an outstanding job here Whitaker isn't half the coach Davenport is. As you said up above, Whitaker reaped the rewards of a system and attitude that Davenport created there.

Id run thru a brick wall for Davenport. But Whitaker really changed the culture here. Davenport layed an excellent foundation tho. No doubt about it
