Ok fine, he was under investigation. Because you would know living 200 miles away and I don't know anything because I live by East, work in the schools, talk to coaches, talk to administrators and have connections in the newspaper.

I just don't think its the coach. Its the kids and the community. And the Victoria Memorial experiment proves that. They couldn't even win big with that super team. I agree with you on that one. I work in the schools and while I love these kids to death, they don't have that fire in the bellies for football. We both come from the same place, so we know there is a pick up football game somewhere in town. Kids are working out, living, breathing football. Here, football is just something do to. The only people who support the team are parents of the kids who are at the playing, marching, cheering, or dancing in the game. When we decided to move here, I had visions of a town full of rivalry and spirit. The majority of the people here in town seem kind of "eh" about football. One of my co-workers, who is Stroman grad, mentioned that the last time he saw the town exited for football was in the last 1990s. So yeah, the kids don't really help the coach out. But again, its the coaches job to get these kids motivated. The town was like that before conslidation. Consolidation killed any spirit the city had. People used to be hardcore VHS/Stroman. Give East/West some time. They have hardly any traditions. It can change with time.

Surprised Ednas Coach let the kid go to Victoria, Coaches have to be real cautious.

I was there for 2010, but having fair weather fans is no fun. After 2010, I thought the best was yet to come. But, the spirit just faded away.

Good athletes in Victoria, when the right Coach comes along and puts in a good weight program and feeder system it could win a state championship. I'm not saying this isn't the coach either, shouldn't be putting this Coach down. How long should someone get to try and turn things around before the for sale signs are talked about? If it was a buddy system that hired the wrong guy it needs to be changed also. I just don't think its the coach. Its the kids and the community. And the Victoria Memorial experiment proves that. They couldn't even win big with that super team. To some extent, that can be correct about community attitude. But on the flip side, even a good coach can get more mileage out of kids and light a fire under a mediocre to dead program. PLC, as much as it may bother you, is one program to note who failed to really get going even with Gary Davenport (that's who was there before Whit??). Robstown could have probably been spanked by a number of 2A and 1A schools before Wood came in. But look at Midland Lee and Odessa Permian. When was the last time we've heard them even make noise in the playoffs? It's been a while because they haven't found the right fit. Speaking of Davenport, when he went to Carrol he wasn't too successful, but neither was Hite who ran a good program in the RGV at Weslaco. Carroll had and probably still has to many darn helicopter parents and of course non football people doing the hiring and firing at the CCISD front office. Again, Gonzalez might be a good coach and you could be 100% on the mark about the situation. But with a still trying to establish itself type program like VE,at the very least the AD should have hired someone with a winning record at his current job or a top assistant who's resume is filled with success at programs from start ups to established. You can't tell me their wasn't at least one or two men who had those qualities who applied for the job. What they did in the VISD with East is exactly what the CCISD did with Carroll.

IMO it all starts with the parents encouraging there kid to buy in, from what I here there is a few good classes coming up with dedicated kids and parents hopefully they stick around .... Also to many kids in Vic think they will be in the big leagues one day and are just playing baseball ... What a joke

And with that, what type of people do they have coaching those kids? I can tell you with the Calallen youth and what has built our foundation is the fact many of the coaches are passionate (almost too much) about the sport and are former Calallen Cats in the 80's and 90's from when the program was becoming what it is today. They just don't show up and monitor practice, they conduct it like they would a middle school squad.

I am not too familiar with the youth program. But there was an article in the advocate about the youth program. The one coach they interviewed was a former VHS player.

I read in a thread a while back, and I also saw the man. But the west coach attended calhouns spring game. Why? Well obviously he wants to beat us, so the man is doing everything and anything to get an advantage for his team.
To the best of my knowledge. Gonzales did not attend the game.
Sometimes it's the little things that seperates winning and losing. If in fact gonzale did not go, this could be an indication that he is not able or willing to do the little things as a coach, for the team to win. Not saying attending a Calhoun scrimmage would make east win, just using it as an example of a coach doing something to try and give his team every bit of help he can, and another coach who is not.

Apparently they don't trust you with information. Why the hell would I be making it up? I have no hatred for the Victoria programs. An internet buddy of mine played for Victoria High in the late 90s. Still lives there. He told me all about it. Don't throw a hissy fit at me just because you didn't know about it. QB transferred to East to play QB then back to Edna by basketball season to play basketball for Edna. And like I said it was more than one kid.

Its amazing that when you point to your youth programs success its legit but when I did the same thing about Alice's youth teams I got ridiculed and told the youth teams success is irrelevant. You didn't ridicule me. But these other clowns did. Yet they are talking about it as legit with you.

There's a difference between just adding a school and completely taking away the identity of an entire town.
