It's the coaches that report to Dave Campbell those numbers. So they should be believed.

How did "Better Stadiums" get to Dave Campbell's and Alice's JV?

How did "Better Stadiums" get to Dave Campbell's and Alice's JV? Heck, almost every Thread turned into an Alice Coyotes (cochino) vs. PLC Sandcrabs. Talking Sub varsity on the Better Stadiums Thread rather than on the Sub Varsity Thread. Seems to be the norm this go round.

Misquoting my position on subvarsities. They matter to a certain extent, but probably aren't that big of a deal. Making the jump to varsity isn't easy; an undefeated JV/freshman team means nothing if the development ends there (or at least falls behind the rest of the teams in your district.) Tom, as much as I respect you, it is hard to take you serious. My sophomore year, I played on the J.V. I was moved up to the varsity in my Jr. year. Let me tell you, it was no fun going up against our seniors in spring and two-a-days. THAT is what prepared me for the varsity level. That was in 79 when we were 4-A (the biggest division at the time), and only one district championship. We went to the semi-finals that year. No different today as far as being prepared to take the next step. Sotex, I see what you are saying and agree to a point. Yes, if you have a talented freshman class it certainly can translate into a great varsity team in 3 years, especially if the talent is there on the JV at the same time. However, I think each school is different in that they handle their players differently. STeele's 2011 15-1 team went either 2-6 or 3-5 in 7th & 8th grade, 2-8 as freshman, and I believe as a soph class they won about 1/2 their games or so, yet they were great as SRs. Also, at Steele our staff will move quite a few of the talented sophomores to varsity very early in the year, and even some freshman well before the playoffs arrive. Our staff believes in getting these youngsters acclimated to varsity play early and also 'making them part of the team' by having them participate on the field. How much do you think this might affect our sub varsity team's records at Steele when you may have your best 8-10 sophomores on varsity and as many as 4-5 freshman? My point is that our staff couldn't care less what the records are of the sub varsity teams. Don't get me wrong, they still want and try to win every game but they certainly don't lose any sleep over a 500 record on any of those teams. I believe the SR group we have coming in has the best w/l record of any so far through 5 years of football in middle school and suv-varsity play. I know one SR DE who's dad told me his son has lost a total of 4 games in those 5 years of football and two of those were to Dekaney in the finals in 2011 and katy last year in the semis. I believe his team lost 1 as freshman and one in middle school. That is all great but that dang sure don't mean we are going to make it to the title game or even out of the region this year. Talent as younger players is GREAT, but it don't mean squat if those talented kids don't work as hard as other groups who've come through with less talent! Another point I throw out here is my son's group (Freshman) have not lost a game. They were not scored on in 7th grade and gave up 3 TDs last year (2 in trash time) yet I don't believe for a second they will go 10-0 this year because I believe we'll probably have 4-6 kids moved to varsity very early in the year and possibly a few others go to JV. All I'm saying is every coach approaches it a little differently and that in itself makes a big difference from school to school on how much sub-varsity success carries over to varsity football.

Who was the old KIII weatherman that would start his broadcast with, "Let's talk about the weather?" Kind of in a Walter Cronkite voice.

Our stadium up in Austin is not pretty, but I love it anyway. Burger Stadium is big (15,000), made of concrete (hate the metal erector set stadiums), has ample parking, and has 3 ways to leave (one via Hwy 290, other 2 via neighborhoods). Concessions have been upgraded, but they're nothing special. Not bad. Bathrooms...who knows. I never have to use the bathroom at games. No video board. Recently upgraded speaker system for the announcer. No grass. They've got an outdated synthetic turf that was to be replaced, but the bond didn't pass in May. It's home to 2 5A teams (Bowie & Akins) and 2 4A teams (Crockett & Travis). I feel out of place here, though. I'm a 5A guy, but follow 4A as well. Seems this board is dominated by South Texas and the Coastal area. I guess I need to adopt a team from down there. Had one in mind, but they're 3A...

We have Austin and CENTEX posters on here as well. A few from Dripping Springs, Marble Falls, etc. Dtrain is the Austin expert. He'll chime in every once-in-a-while with his wisdom on who has "Athletes" in the Austin area. When Lake Travis was 4A we had quite a few of them on here as well. Now they are on the 5A forum. This place is getting more posters from around the state. We always welcome more. Port Lavaca Calhoun is going to play Austin Reagan up there on 9/20. What field does Austin Reagan play at?

No need to do that, I haven't adopted any of the Coastal Bend teams, though I may adopt a GHA one I guess.

Shirley Field just got their brand new Jumbotron. With the field renovated and everything, its up there with the best in Region 4. Plenty of parking. Just that your in the hood, keep an eye on your belongings lol. The SAC (UISD) is alright. The box looks like they just got any old sheets from the junkyard down the highway. Shirley definitely beats this stadium. Dont let your professional soccer teams take over or it gets ruined.

You bring a lotta good info with you from the centex and your input will be great. As for Burger, I for one really like that stadium a lot. Clemens has played there several times in the past and I always enjoyed games there.

Dtrain...yes I know him and his many tactful observations. Reagan's home stadium is Nelson Field. It's basically a sister stadium to Burger, but smaller. I just looked up the schedule, and it says y'all are playing Reagan in Manor. Lanier is hosting Gonzales at Nelson that night. Thanks for the welcome.

No need to do that, I haven't adopted any of the Coastal Bend teams, though I may adopt a GHA one I guess. Your team is 4A, though. No need to adopt a team. Hmmmm....who to pick? I don't want to jump on a bandwagon that a lot of posters already represent. I'll get back to y'all tonight. haha
