I am not sure I'm thinking about the same Alice stadium where Clemens played Calallen one year in the playoffs in the late 90s because we brought a big crowd as did Calallen and I thought the atmosphere was electric. Of course there were a ton of Alice folks there as well and 99.9% of them were pulling for the Cats that night. I will not forget this because it made a big impression on me on how the 'local boys' stuck together and supported one another. If this is the same stadium I thought I remembered it seating around 7500-8k or so? And my Death Star comment was a joke. Cowboys Stadium is unreal but the fact is that it can put a big dent in your wallet if you go there and attend all the games. We (Steele) like playing at Heroes in SA and consider it our home away from home in the playoffs. It is a very nice HS stadiumm but the one complaint I have is that the NEISD band boosters do a very, VERY poor job of manning the concessions. I don't care if it is a sellout 5a state semifinal game or a 2a game between Refugion and Lexington.........they DO NOT have enough people working and windows open at the concession stands and I've given up getting ANYTHING after the game starts! But, the stadium is very nice in itself with a great sound system.

Hands down............. THE DEATH STAR! ROFLMAO I do think that Jerry World is an inappropriate venue for high school games. I guess when you have, maybe, 20,000 fans in a stadium that seats 100,000, it just doesn't feel the same as a packed stadium that seats 15,000. I have no more fun watching a game there than at most high school stadiums in DFW.

Good point Tom. I don't get all the big venues. I say seating should be about 25,000 in a nice venue.

Good point Tom. I don't get all the big venues. I say seating should be about 25,000 in a nice venue. Strangely, there aren't many stadiums that fit that many. Most stadiums are either high school stadiums (which top out around 18 or 19,000, I think) or college/pro stadiums that seat way more than that. Apogee Stadium (UNT), Ford Stadium (SMU), and Bobcat Stadium (TSU) are all right around 30,000. Amon Carter Stadium at TCU seats 45,000, but it's grass so most teams in DFW avoid it; same deal with BBVA Compass Stadium (seats 22,000) in Houston. UH's new stadium is also supposed to seat 45,000. The big college stadiums and of course Reliant, Jerry World, and the Alamodome, all seat well more than that.

Our game with Guyer was great because the Ryan and LT fans stayed in force to watch and by the middle of the third qtr there were a ton of Pearland and ET fans there as well. I think LT/Ryan was 39k+, we were 41K+ and Pearland/ET was 43k+. So, during the heat of the battle in our game I'd venture to say there was no less than 70K in the house and probably quite a few more than that. All I know is the bottom and middle sections were packed, the upper deck had a big crowd in it, and there were a ton of people in the standing areas as well.

STFF, me and the boy smuggled in a bag of candy bars and other snacks and then bought one drink each and resorted to water after that. But yes, I'd say you are not far off. I did go on one day and get a sorry burger, chips, and a coke and it was over $20. SAD

SAD Granted, it's rare to have two schools from the same district playing back-to-back games for the state championship. I love the idea of a single site for the state championship. However... football is NOT an indoor sport, LOL.

Football is meant to be played in the elements and if it is in the 30s and raining...........GET IT ON!!!!!!!!! By the way Tom, we had another soon to be SR commit last week. He's a BEAST! 247sports.com/Player/Joshua-Malin-12903The numbers on him are way off as are the number of schools that had offered. He's over 6'6" and around 270 now! Our other Sr DE will most likely commit to OSU where is big bro is a LB on the team. We should have one of the best D-lines in teh state and probably the best tandem of DEs overall this year. I believe we now have 4, maybe 5 (SRs) committed to D1 and likely will get at least 2 more by season's end. We are shaping up nicely for a run this year if we stay healthy.

As far as outside, I remember a couple of playoff games like the one at TCU in 1967 where I froze my rear off and one at the Alamo Dome a couple of years ago where it was freezing outside and pouring rain and I was happy to be inside thanks just the same.

Another reason Jerry has the reputation he's earned. He just signed an agreement with AT&T for naming rights to the tune of $20 million annually. He owns the concession agreement and the least he could do for high school events like the tittle game is lower some of the concession prices. He and the UIL need to realize a bunch of folks who travel up there are not driving Lexus, BMWs or top of the line King Ranch 350's . Many of them are blue collar types, Farmers, small business types of teachers from small town Texas where the median income is lower than the burbs Jerry and UIL big dogs live in.

You get that. It is about money and nothing else.

New seats have been added to the endzones that are bigger than the previous wooden ones that were there for the Calallen/Clemens game. It's a great stadium. These PLC boys are just trashing it because of me. It's nonsense.

Bay City Memorial comes to mind. It only holds 6000, dimly lit, no visitor parking except on the street, the grass usually looks lousy, and no drainage. I doubt they'll ever get turf. When Chad Morris was the coach there, he once had a helicopter come out and hover over the field on game day after a rain to try to get rid of the water standing on the field. I still remember Pearland's stadium too before they got "The Rig". It was called Pressner and you had to park on the grass and then wade through the mud to get into the stadium if it had rained. They had wood bleachers and as you walked to your seat you would get a sinking feeling as the foot boards would flex. You could hardly hear the speaker and sometimes they woudn't mow the grass and band members would complain about having to march on it.

The 2nd state game felt so weird, having it at night and only 15K showing up. But I like Heroes, really nice stadium. But like you said just wish the concessions went faster.
