Interesting list. I won't comment on the teams I know nothing about (i.e. the non-Metroplex/5-4A teams) but a few comments...
I can't really quibble with Guyer as #1.
Rider, that's a very good program that's been to the quarterfinals the last three years and went to the semis last year. I think it's a blessing in disguise that their QB got hurt last year because now they're going into 2013 with an experienced quarterback. They need to replace some guys on defense (and, really, the defense carried them after Barrett got hurt.) I won't argue with top ten but #3 might be a little high.
Birdville's an interesting pick. 13-1 last year, actually kept things interesting against Guyer in the quarterfinals, had a 1500-yard RB last year who will be a senior. Again, not sure I'd put them that high as they need to find a QB, but top 10 might be legit.
Highland Park is always a threat; no argument there.
Lancaster loses a ton of talent. Had a bunch of seniors who signed with FBS programs, and their star junior transferred (to Fort Bend Bush, I think.) They ALWAYS have athletes, but it's an open question if 2012 was a truly special group or if they've really turned a corner.

Upon further review, I must have missed how many underclassmen were on that Rider defense. Wow. They had three juniors make first-team all-district. So, I'm no longer quibbling with that ranking.

I think Dawson should be in there. I just don't know where. I would like some input for the other members of this board on who should be in the top ten. Please have a valid point about your ranks and why you think they should be in the top ten. Please try not to base your picks on your homerism.

But I'll give this a shot. 1. Denton Guyer (not a homer pick) 2. Cedar Park 3. Wichita Falls Rider 4. Whitehouse 5. Nederland 6. Aledo (why are we sleeping on them?) 7. Pearland Dawson 8. John Tyler 9. Elgin 10. Lucas Lovejoy

Pearland Dawson has very talented athletes, but they are an undisciplined team. They have yet to beat the Region IV team in the State Semifinals and they failed to even make it to the Region III Finals in 2012. I do not think that Birdville, Nederland, Georgetown and Lancaster will be as strong as they were in 2012. Denton Guyer & Cedar Park are definitely the two elite teams from 4A. Wichita Falls Rider has been a consistent contender and looks to be strong again for 2013. John Tyler had its best two teams in 2011 and 2012 and came up short. I am sure they will be competitive, but not as strong as the past two years. There will be more than just Cedar Park to make some noise from Region IV. Rouse, Calallen, Port Lavaca Calhoun and Flour Bluff will be strong teams to contend with. Top three looks good with: 1. Denton Guyer 2. Cedar Park 3. Wichita Falls Rider The bottom seven I would toss out Birdville and Nederland and Lancaster. 4. Georgetown 5. Whitehouse 6. John Tyler 7. Highland Park 8. Pearland Dawson 9. Flour Bluff 10. Calallen

Calallen Color me skeptical on Georgetown. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first year that East View will have seniors, so I think that will really have an effect on their program. I think they might disappoint here. I'm hearing Humble Summer Creek is in for a big year in R3. Don't know much about them, other than that they looked really good last year and then got bounced early by Georgetown. Sort of the same deal as Aledo; we're sleeping on them because they happened to play a really good team early in the playoffs.

I think there will be alot of really good teams in Region 4 this year. Cedar Park,Rouse,Brennan,Calallen,FB,PLC and Kerrville Tivy. Tivy will be in the mix. We have 36 seniors on varsity this year and there is word of a QB moving here.

Hope I can get a glimpse of FB. I know Martin heads over there now. Would of been great to see this team without Mims. The backup went into the game in the 4th or 3rd but he felt at ease with the Martin defense. Maybe a game with Cigarroa if there's no UISD game at SAC.

True, but you're still talking about a program that's won at least 10 games in 10 of the last 11 seasons, and has been at least to the quarterfinals in 9 of the last 11 seasons. That's consistency.
