I really don't see Flour Bluff in the top ten. Top 25, sure. I agree. The only Coastal Bend team that should even be considered for a top 10 ranking is Calhoun with all their returning starters. The Bluff will be a question mark based solely on who their starting QB will be and how he performs. It will be difficult for them to replace Mims. Calallen should be in the mix with their great defense, but their offensive performance is their big question mark. That's why I believe out of those 3 teams beginning the season, only Calhoun should be considered for a top 10 pre-season ranking. I completely agree... Im all for FB, but we will just have to see how our new QB performs. The guys looked good at the spring game thursday so im keeping my fingers crossed.

Holy mother of God. That is a lot of players. For a spring game? Most schools have the JV kids play in the spring game too. Guyer had 124 players between varsity and JV last year, so I could easily see how you'd get 109 in the spring game. JT had a 130. Coach Holmes will only take no more than 55 on varsity.

The top ten has no baring on who makes it to the playoffs or who makes it to the championship game. No one thought spring Dekaney was going to make it to the state game let alone win it.

Your right the rankings are for fun and the fans. It only matters what you do come playoff time. I can honestly say I dont like it when our team is ranked because I feel like the kids dont play as hard or they get big headed. I love beeing the underdog then the kids play with a chip on there shoulder.

The 0-2 start quickly brought them back down to earth. Seemed like they played better from that point on.

I'm not sure Calhoun can be considered top 10 anymore. Not being negative, but I don't believe E-E, who beat calhoun and return even more starters and lettermen are top 10. Top 10 and top 20 are a long ways apart judging how E-E got trounced by Brennan after beating PLC (E-E wheels came off). I do think Calallen can make a case of it because they are the only ones to actually beat up on top 10 talent. Case could be made for E-E since they did beat #8 PLC, but see my previous comment.. . My wish top 10 contender list for coastal bend and further south is Calallen, E-E, PLC, Flour Bluff, Alice, Mercedes.. In that order.

When Calhoun and EE go head to head it is always a toss up and always some good hard hitting football. Calhoun had some major mistakes and EE's Offense was hitting on all Cylinders gave them all the edge they needed to pull off a close win over Calhoun. My hats off to that remarkable QB they had but Calhoun has the better part and all of the key players returnning for this next run and some very nice additional talent. I don't think it is a far fetch to place Calhoun high in the top 10 list with the progress we have made this past few years.

I'm not going to jump into whether or not Calhoun should be top 10 or not, but I will give some insight into next year. We lost many on the line, both OL and DL. But, as most know, we are not hurting for big boys in Port Lavaca right now. We have the size, but can these big guys gel? I believe so as Whit always has his linemen going in the right direction. We lost some LB's, but I have to say that we may have one of the better LB groups that I've seen in a while playing this coming year. These kids can flat out fly to the ball. 1 of them had 3 or 4 bone crushing hits on Boerm at the Spring Game. And Boerm has had a bit of a growth spurt. He is a legit 6'4", 240 lb manchild. IF you add in a legit D1 running back (3 D-1 scout visitors during spring tells me this is true) that we didn't have the last 3 weeks and playoffs last year, I believe we should make some noise. But,,,,,,,,,,,it hinges a lot on how those OL turn out.

CP went 0-2 which brought them back down to reality and took them from being #2 in 4a to totally out of the top 25. It took the Leander win to bring them back up to even be recognized. Another team to watch for again this year is Leander-Rouse. They'll be Division I along with Vista Ridge or Leander taking the second spot in Dist 25-4a of the DI schools within 4a. Vista Ridge is now larger than CP, so CP will probably be in DII again unless the wheels fall off VR or Leander and then Marble Falls or Vandagrift might get ahead of them. Then CP would go DI. That said, CP's "O" will be awesome with some heavy weights up front being interchanged with those we lost. It will be interesting to see how our "D" will be as they lost quite a few starters. They moved their STUD fullback over to fill the middle LB spot. Spring ball saw him all over the field as well as filling holes like a madman! I don't think they are a #2 but I'd put them in the top 10 for sure. Lots of great 4a teams in Region I & Region II that will make some noise this year! Let's hope Region IV can keep one of the 4a State Football titles yet again!

The one that the one that lost to CP, Leander and Vandegrift in District? Or will it be the one that soundly beat GP and FB in the playoffs or the one that was thrashed by Georgetown in the playoffs? They were too inconsistent last year. I don't expect L-R to be better than 3rd in District, just like the 2012 season. Definitely a tuff District 25-4A for 2013.

G-town had 5A numbers last year and a bunch of seniors. Those numbers will drop big time, plus they were a big surprise to many. Many has big talent and good coaching, Elgin and Hutto are booming and all the Leander/CP schools are threats to win region 4. CP still has to play a loaded 5A Westlake team that will likely put a loss on them again, so don't expect them to go undefeated.
