As an "outsider" of both teams just reading what happened....sounds to me like there is a huge upside for Pieper to improve before the playoffs get here. And since you seem to be more of a Pieper fan and more intimate with their team than SV, I would assume that SV has a huge upside to also improve their weaknesses before the playoffs. One thing is for certain....longtime Head Football Coach Larry Hill will get SV's mistakes corrected and the team playing the best football it can by the end of district play. Couldn't tell if you were addressing my post or not, but I'll answer anyway! Actually, I'm a SV fan, been following them for the last 20 years. I have also watched every Pieper game since they began broadcasting them a couple of years ago. I try to give an observation-based assessment of the teams - but I realize I have some biases! SV's problems in their two losses was that they lost the battle at the line of scrimmage, and made too many mistakes - especially in the kicking game. What worries me is that by this time of year, SV has usually put their mistakes behind them (they haven't - 4 missed field goals and numerous penalties in the return game) and I'm not sure the Offensive line is going to be much better. The OL technique can improve, but they are really light in comparison with most SV lines, I'm not sure they have the power to win the LOS like past teams. If SV can't win the LOS, they usually don't score too much. Pieper made mental mistakes, hopefully their coaches can teach that - although I think Pieper right now is closer to their maximum performance level than SV is, so I agree that SV can get better. Pieper is in the drivers seat, no question as they have already beaten 2 of the top 5 teams in district. SV always has tough matchups with Wagner, usually plays well against NB and I think they will handle the others without much of a problem. SV as the 2 seed out of D-13-5A is still a threat, but I worry... Great assessment on SV and where they are at and I totally agree with you that for the SV offense to really be good they MUST win the battle up front. Though SV has good skill position players they do NOT have homerun hitters or a guy who can really stretch a defense over the top and that means you better win up front. Pieper does have that guy in Champagne and a couple of other pretty damn good ones like that big tightend and the QB is a straight up player.

All right, I gotta get something off my chest - after re-watching the Pieper vs SV game, the unsportsmanlike penalty called against SV late in the 4th quarter was a trash call by the linesman. 4 Pieper players were in the kids face and he tossed the ball toward them. At best offsetting fouls. SV subsequently gained enough yardage that would have them with a reasonable FG chance. I hate when officials make snap judgments when the game is on the line. 100% agree. I saw that and thought to myself wth kind of call was that! smdh I saw a couple of very obvious other questionable calls as well as some no-calls that should have been made. I usually never whine about officiating but when obvious calls are missed it gets my goat.

This was an interesting thread for a guy like me trying to learn this district down here. I'm still not that familiar with the history, but at least now I have a little bit of information of what's going on this season for the main players in the district race. I will watch more closely for the rest of district play to see which team(s) made the necessary leap forward and which teams did not make enough of a leap. The Bye Week is THE WEEK for the coaching staffs and players to catch up and improve. I'm not sure whether other states in the US have a BYE WEEK in their football schedules, but it sure is a season-changer for lots of teams in Texas. Just think what it would be like for teams that do not have a Bye Week.....there are teams in Texas that play 10 straight weeks.....whether they get a first or last week off.....that's a tough road. Heck, 7 straight games before a Bye Week is a tough road in most Texas districts. I've lived in the following states: Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, South Carolina and Texas - only SC and TX have bye weeks - it might be a "Southern" thing?

I ran it by an official friend of mine, he told me his crew would have called it the same way, when the guy threw the ball toward the other team it's automatic (point of emphasis for crews this year). The only "out" would have been to call offsetting penalties. He said that since the Pieper players were within the player box, and the only way they would have been penalized would have been for language.

Would you fellas agree that Pieper and SV are the class of the region? Yes. They wouldn't be if we were located in any of the other regions this year. Region 4 is by far the weakest in my estimation

They've looked really good so far but it is very hard to judge just how good they are do to the strength of schedule they play. Likely their toughest game of the regular season will not come until the 2nd to last district game when they play PSJA North.

I agree that whoever wins this region will be the underdog in the state semis. But, SV has been in that position more than once and has pulled off the W to get to the finals!

Just rewatched this for myself. It took a few tries to actually see what the SV kid did. Committing a personal foul with the game on the line is the most un-SV-like thing ever, and it was costly. That knocked them out of field goal range when a field goal would have tied it. Judging from the body language it looked like their kids were really jawing at him. It is what it is, though.

Yeah man that was a huge mistake. Ticky tacky call for sure but by the letter of the rule it was unsportsmanlike. Hell, he didn't even throw the ball at them he just flipped it there way. Honestly, I've seen much worse get let go many, many times. SV had momentum and was driving for at least the tying FG for sure. I can only imagine the 'what for' he got from Larry Hill!!!

Very Ticky Tacky!!! It was very ticky tacky, but when I watched the game knowing that it was coming I watched the body language and interaction of the players and I knew for sure who was going to get the penalty… He was involved in a few post play situations that didn’t quite draw the refs’ attention.
