Stepp has an interesting Tweet regarding attendance this week.
I and others have said the shine was starting to dim with this event at Jerryworld. Throw in the cost of everything is ridiculous right now and in particular at sporting events like this where they hand tie you from coming and going and have to pay $30 to just park your car….. yep attendance is going to take a hit. UIL events are not supposed to fleece people and this is what it’s come down too.

Can't afford the tickets, Travel, Hotel, Gas, Food, Parking and lost money due to taking off work. Now If it was within 40 miles of my house like the folks from the DFW get every year. then I might make a Friday or Saturday game or two. Other than that, NO CHANCE

Now If it was within 40 miles of my house like the folks from the DFW get every year. then I might make a Friday or Saturday game or two. Other than that, NO CHANCE I went up to the Big 12 championship a few weeks ago thanks to tickets being gifted to me and it was ridiculous paying $40 for parking off site with about a 1/2 mile walk included with that. Parking closer to the stadium was $100 plus! I realize supply and demand goe into effect here and the audience in attendance had a lot of UT Alum fat cats as well as other fat cats from the immediate area. But geese my bank accounts could all have six figures in them and I would not pay $100 plus for parking out of principle. And of course the concessions were not cheep either , but I had to breakdown and pay $14 for nachos which were decent and $9 Dr Pepper When Cal played up there in 2016, that was easily a $500 weekend for four of us. Inflation adjusted that is probably $700 or $800 now. The schools I really feel sorry for are the smaller division schools from 3A down whose fan base can’t get there in numbers because logistics are not feasible or the cost. Most of those folks are farmers, ranchers, oil field, day labor, the owner/operator and only employee of a business and just can’t shut down mid week. Over and over I’ve said this is why to others who live outside the DFW metro area and the DCTF media mindset there is resentment about how this game is conducted now yearly. The Refugio coach got raked over the coals last year for stating some of this and he was somewhat correct

Aledo, Duncanville, DeSoto and SOC and North Shore are always there it seems. Not sure about other classifications but that could also play a part in decreasing attendance. Same ole teams schools every year!

Yeah the attendance was only 193,776. This just in your gas isn't $1.74 either and get a co signer to buy meat.

Same ole teams schools every year! This is the major issue. The novelty has worn off with those programs, and fans can watch at home. Had Euless Trinity, Allen, or Lovejoy made it, numbers would have gone up on Saturday. Hopefully some other programs can step up.

Yup not surprising having the same teams in 6a and 5a every year is becoming tiring they're just too talented at the top we already know who gonna be there once the season starts. And I don't see no new teams rising anytime soon the gap is getting wider it feels like 4ad1 is great though new champion the last 6 years but they don't bring the numbers like the higher division do

If DeSoto drops, then a spot opens up for 6A D2 as well.

6A-D1 game had slightly higher attendance this year. 5A-D2 also had a bit more people attend.
5A-D1 title game had nearly 6000 less fans in attendance compared to a year ago.

A huge "IF" Brownsville Veterans Memorial had beaten Smithson Valley, the Aledo vs. Brownsville Veterans Memorial game would have set an attendance record!

I think in an age of dynasty programs, having the same teams every year leads to its fans having a “been there, done that” approach. So interest will decline.
Plus, the pandemic has also made streaming more viable, so less people are going to head out to a game.

The one thing Clinton said that was perfectly on target, "it's the economy stupid." Entertainment is the first thing on the budget to get cut.
