Why would you want the team that destroyed Brownsville Vets to then get blown out? That would just make your team look worse. I always root for the team that beats my home team. But I guess we are all different. San Antonio has caused the RGV enough misery. I'll put it to you this way. If it was A&M Consolidated or College Station, I'd cheer for them. I suppose I understand. San Antonio and Austin have laid the RGV to rest for decades now. Only Brownsville Vets and Harlingen in 2011 have recently pierced passed the third round, only to fall to a San Antonio school in a later round anyways. So the barrier is still technically there. I just figured you might as well be able to say that you lost to the state champion, that’s all. Brownsville Vets isn’t as bad as the game made it seem. SV is just playing really solid football right now.

Salty, eh? Just telling it like it is. Would you rather me BS? Nah, you're fine - I know how much it hurts when you get spanked that hard...we got beat like that against Westlake a few years back - but they only pulled their starters with about 5 minutes left in the game. SV easily could have hung 70 tonight.

But since you San Antonio folks think so little of the RGV, they're all easy to forget. I get it. I do....really.

Absolutely not lol SV is the underdog here. Huge underdog. I’m just saying if it was me, I’d rather lose to a state champion than a state finalist. So I would root for the team that I lost to in the playoffs. BUT I do believe in the Rangers this year. I think they can do it.

It’s not that I don’t care about the RGV, but I’ve largely ignored 5A ball. I have to start following it again since my team is going to drop to 5A next year.

It will be good if NB and SV would be in the same district next year - I've heard they may put NB with South Austin or with SV, Wagner, BC. It would really improve the district if y'all were in it.

Playoff pathSmithson Valley: Magnolia West (W) 20-17 College Station (W) 26-21 A&M Consolidated (W) 31-24 Smithson Valley played a stronger road to Jerry World and they will be a formidable opponent to Aledo. SV will beat Aledo 35-28 at Jerry World. I agree that SV has played against stronger playoff teams but they beat MW by 3, CS by 5 and A&M by 7. I just find it hard to think a team that had close games with those teams is going to beat Aledo. Obviously it can happen but they are going to need help. Aledo has thrown 2 ints each of the last two games and special teams is a gamble this season. If SV lets Aledo trip themselves up and they play mistake free then things might get interesting (as the Abilene fans would say).

Some observations rewatching the College Station game:
SV does a good job with the playaction pass. They will throw bombs off the fake.
SV defense doesnt seem big but they get a lot of hats to the ball and they are effort based.
SV special teams is very solid! They have the edge against Aledo here.

Is Aledo dominant in the trenches? SV has been winning the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball wearing teams out all playoffs .
SV is susceptible to long passes to speedy receivers, but their defense normally gets home without blitzing. And conversely their offense runs the ball efficiently to set up the pass. Is #26 Sowersby healthy for the title game? He's been on fire in the playoffs.
I personally think SV will have trouble containing QB Hejny like they did with Hargett from Consol. Should be a fun game.

Is Aledo dominant in the trenches? Yes. Our D-line is playing out of their minds and our offensive line is pretty solid. We've won the trenches every game this playoff run. So far, the best and most physical team we've played is Lubbock Cooper. Honestly SV reminds me of them. However, I think Cooper is more explosive. If SV is missing their starting RB then that makes things even. We missed ours last night. Sucks but health factors in this time of year.

Not trying to be a homer but if Aledo and SV both play their best ball this Friday, Aledo wins. So Aledo needs to play their best ball and SV needs to disrupt Aledo from doing so. Difficult task but SV is more than capable.

As always if your team can’t beat the SA teams, get better, get better coaches, get stronger. There are things schools can do to improve. I follow Gregory Portland, am I 100% pleased where the team is right now? No not so far, but I’m seeing improvement every year and I’m glad to see that improvement.

Difficult task but SV is more than capable. SV has a WR committed to Texas that will be someone to keep an eye on. Our DBs have been playing well but SV WRs have been running past people all tournament long.
