Also, if anyone asks, this is an all R4 semi final and R3 just wasn’t good enough to get this far.

I think Bro Vets will play hard. But I’ll take Smithson Valley by around 35. SV fans either need to pay this guy to go away or go find Tony Montana to do that favor for you. lol!

No doubt Wagner had a lot more speed than BVM but I also think they were bigger up front as well. I think BVM may execute at a higher level though in their blocking schemes. To slow down or stop that BVM offense SV has the EXACT tools in the box. Great front 7 that can severely slow down the run and then a group of DBs that not only cover 1 on 1 well when BVM does pass, those DBs also come up and play damn near like 4 more linebackers with their hitting and tackling. I'm not sure where BVM holds a single edge in this game looking at it man for man and that is NOT good for them because the ONLY teams that beat SV are the ones that hold a LARGE advantage athletically. And even then, SV beats many teams that are bigger and faster than they are. They do this with great coaching putting the kids in the right spots and rarely make mistakes. The more I look at this matchup the more I believe it may get out of hand. I think BVM's only chance of keeping this game close is to hope they can create a 3+ turnover advantage and we all know that once again SV themselves make a living doing exactly this against their opponents. Agreed - there have been two games this year to my recollection that SV lost the turnover battle - Reagan (-1) and College Station (-1). College Station was their high water mark with 3 turnovers. They should have won the Reagan game, but left 4 points on the field due to kicking malfunctions (backup holder was in, not necessary his fault, but it may have been a factor). The Rangers typically don't beat themselves. I've only been going to games for the last 20 years or so, but I can't recall too many times where they have lost the turnover battle by more than 1. Many times, they have the advantage by 2 or more. It really is a pleasure to watch them play. My kids have long since graduated, I still hold season tickets and travel to many away games cuz that's just the way I'm built! I really want to be there when Coach Hill wins that first championship! Yup! SV absolutely forces turnovers by clean but hard hitting shots causing fumbles and getting INTs because those DBs are RARELY ever out of position. They play smart in the defensive backfield and bait some throws by making coverages look like they are one on one and open but they are not! I myself have watched too many SV games to count including quite a few back in the 2011 & 2012 seasons when a good friend's son was on the O-line. That 2012 team was the team I was speaking of when SV was so big up front. That o line was nasty and they had the Smith kid at QB with an absolute brute of a RB name Mattison. I watched them pound Judson 1 night at Judson and really thought that team would meet up with Steele in the regional finals but they ended up losing by a TD early to Brandeis which was mind boggling to me. I can tell you this, if I'd have that big O-line and that RB along with a pro-style QB like Smith, I would have been under center running out of the power I the majority of the time killing people with Play action passes! I was so shocked not to see Hill get Smith up under center even when they were 1st & goal inside the 5. I never understood that at all. By the way, my friend's son got a full ride to UIW and played 5 years and got a Masters degree there on house money. lol

Thank the Lord they are opting up to 6a next season! Is that the official word? That is what I keep hearing. They want to stay in the district they are in. I can't blame them for that the way they are dominating 6a DII and that is not ending this year! And they will be guaranteed to be DII being an opt up with the low enrollment number.

I don’t think BVM can win. Has crazy things happened? Of course. But I’m not counting on it. I would really like to see them represent South Texas well though. That’s something that hasn’t been happening lately in these deep rounds. Even a 35-21 kind of game could give us all something to nod our heads about. 49-0? Not so much. Maybe the BVM style of play can eat up some clock and limit Smithson Valleys possessions enough to keep it respectable. I agree I'd love to see it to JG. But, my fear is that SV defense is going to get a lot of 3 & outs on BVM. I don't have time to watch any more BVM probably until late this week but what I saw them running is not going to fool SV in any way and there is nobody that BVM has played that is remotely close to that SV defense.

We may have underestimated Brandeis, as we boat raced them earlier in the year. Mattison was a beast. Smith was an underrated runner as well, slippery and fast. I thought that team was going all the way, we all left the stadium shocked!

Talked to my buddy later that night and I'm pretty sure he was physically sick over it. I think everyone had already marked the date for a Steele/SV showdown for the region and everyone was really pumped up over it. That was a damn good SV team that year! Very, very physical, talented, and well rounded.

Completely agree with what many have said on here, vets doesnt hold an edge over sv on anything in this game.
The one thing they do have is an offense meant to help when playing teams that are undeniably faster, bigger stronger. But that offense also needs to be ran to perfection. But even if ran to perfection, a good disciplined d can stop it regardless of how perfect you run it.
Honestly thats how vets beat psja north. Psja north was stronger and bigger (idk about faster though, maybe on defense they were but overall rgv teams arent super fast) but they were extremely undisciplined. It was actually ridiculous how undisciplined they were.
Vs miller, frankly i didnt think miller was better. All miller had on vets was speed on offense, the size difference wasn’t enough to be a factor. Vets was simply stronger and more disciplined. They were always the better team. They didnt play their offense perfectly and still found a way to comeback after letting miller take a lead after vets mistakes
I think miller wouldve fared the same vs psja north since miller offense isnt something that feeds off undisciplined teams. Psja norths not being disciplined wouldnt have made a big difference vs miller had they played.
I think psja north wouldve been a better matchup vs smithson valley bcs of their size but i think they still would lose .
Brownsville vets needs to play perfect, and i think they can, but that may only be enough to keep it respectable

Biggest advantage Vets has had is they run their version of a triple option which most teams don’t see or practice for. Unfortunately for vets Smithson Valley plays two teams (Wagner and Hays) that both run that offense

In a matchup that looks like a Region 4 regional final from a few years back, Smithson Valley takes on Brownsville Veterans Memorial, but in the 5A state semifinals. This is a history making game for Vets and the entire RGV. I think it’s been decades since a large RGV schools reaches the state semifinals. Not since Edinburg reached this round in 5A (now 6A) back in 1999. Both teams overcame huge deficits to reach this round. Not to take anything away from SV, but BVM’s comeback was more dramatic. That said, I’m taking SV in this matchup. Give me the Rangers by 10. Agreed. Most likely the College Station game took a lot out of them, that was a really tough opponent. Even with a big lead, they barely held on. However I don't see how they can lose this game, the talent gap is too big. They still have to play well and ideally get the starters out and rested as soon as possible.

SV let me down bigtime that day lol. SV was loaded with dudes that year. Brandies had a really stout defense as well.
