Honestly Cochino, I would like a new stadium as much as you, the only difference is price. Alice simply doesn’t need these gody stadiums with huge NCAA like press boxes. You may say the one in Seguin was plain but that would be one hell of an upgrade for little Alice Texas. It would also save some of my money and fellow tax payers money. I’m all for upgrades and supporting it with taxes but let’s make it within reason; we don’t need 25-30 mil if 15-18 mil will do. Please before you attack me and say “I’m dumb”, “you are a Newell fan boy”. Newell has really really done a lot of the city of Alice, he has sold land that has been developed for pennys on the dollar, to bring in city revenue and jobs. If you don’t believe me it’s all public information you can find online. I have disagreed with him at times and agreed with him, but im a realist and call it how I see it. The whole “worry about grades over sports, worry about discipline over sports” is where I do agree with you most of that starts at home, but he is honestly right on the number side he’s very savvy when it comes to $$. Well after I just wrote a damn novel, lets hope something reasonable is pushed in the in and it gets passed!! Let’s also hope we do whatever is needed to keep Coach JR he is exactly what the kids in this town needed, old school coaching and hard nose discipline!! Go Coyotes!!! If the stadium proposal would have been $50 million you'd all be saying $25 million is enough. If you say you'd be happy with what Seguin has then that's probably not much less than the $25. If it was built for $13.7 four years ago that's more now. Nobody here is asking for Allen stadium. $25 gets you a nice stadium not something luxurious. There you go taking something out of context. I know material and labor is higher now vs 4 years ago. What I’m saying is shoot for something middle of road value wise, and let the public see multiple bids. Being transparent and realistic is going to be the key to getting this to pass.
Nobody is trying to keep up with the Joneses. The stadium has been looked at by the proper people and it's full of safety issues that could have it condemned in a few years. Someone else could probably explain the safety stuff better than me. Maybe im wrong but like I told the other guy people are sometimes just programmed to ask for less regardless of the number. Had they been asking for $50 then you'd all be ok with $25. Newell on the other hand would be ok with nothing spent on a stadium. And that dude does not sell land for pennies on the dollar for NOTHING. You can bet your ass he's benefitting in another way for selling the land cheaper.
It’s all public information. He personally isn’t benefiting from most of his deals, but the city and citizens do. With ever acre of land he develops and has businesses or houses built brings in people and tax revenue that we lost due to past city officials during 2009 crash. If those nice oil and gas businesses weren’t pushed out and cut a little slack Alice could be building the nicest stadium south of Jerry World.

They can be as transparent as they want and it's not gonna change the mind of Newell or those that think he's their god.

Alice didn't push the oilfield companies out. They all left to be closer to the action of that Eagle Ford shale.

Wasn't Haliburton and Baker Hughes a major employer in Alice? Both Haliburton and Baker Hughes were going to merge, but broke it off. Seems like after that merger fell apart, Bakers & Hughes closed alot of shops all over the place including that new high dollar warehouse that is now the Amazon Prime distribution center between Corpus and Robstown.
My new sales territory now takes in Alice, Freer, going up to Three Rivers and Pleasanton and I'm seeing hiring signs at some of the smaller service companies. Hopefully that means the Eagle Ford might ramp back up.

What down turn?. y'all have 14 mil pool complex that alice (Tax payers) could not afford, and its idle, and you want to invest 25 mil in new stadium, y'all bat chit crazy, yes Alice lost lot of business with that ungodly tax increase.

at the end of the day no matter what alice needs to figure something out with the stadium. before it gets in worst condition and not usable. cause then everyone is gonna be talking trash how come these things not being addressed or y didnt we build a new one. the stadium is not just used for football its soccer, band, graduation, litte olympics. while football might not always have big crowds there is other the things that pull in lots of people. something nice, new, hold any crowd comfortably will do. everyone has the opinion on the isd money situation. if the school feels they can get something done then let it be.
i do think our tax money should go to building some nice youth facilities that our kids can use. the baseball fields r not good. there dont have a legit soccer field either. there alot we could do or should of done especially when the oilfield was booming instead of lining their own pockets.
if u look at those oilfield towns now that r still booming there r new schools, fields, better roads. heck we dont have to look far as to what portland has done. all the new refineries and businesses there has that town booming and new stuff being built everywhere.

Yea the YMCA is running it, how long will it take them to Bail out, it took 4 yr and doubled the budget to build that pool, my point is how can the school justify a 25 mil project just for football.

A city project from 10 years ago has nothing to do with a school project in 2024. And that project was a great idea at that time. Alice was thriving. Nobody had a time machine to see into the future of all the oilfield companies leaving town. As far as how can the school justify the money for a stadium... it costs money. The stadium is 76 years old with safety issues that will have it condemned in a few years if that. And let's be honest Coyote football is all you have in Alice now that the oilfield is gone. It's something that most are proud of regardless of a few Newell tools that aren't.
