Was anyone at the committee meeting yesterday where the new stadium situation was brought up? Hearing they originally wanted to spend $25 million but a certain someone said money wasn't a problem and they could go as high as $45 million without taxes being raised. Hearing they are undecided about building on the same spot because the school district owns land somewhere else that it could be built. I'm not sure where exactly that is. Alice I hope would see this as an opportunity for something bigger than just for Alice. A nice big stadium would bring in lots of local playoff games as well as Valley vs San Antonio stuff... and most importantly would give me an opportunity to brag about Alice's new stadium lol. Let's build something nicer than Buc and have the best stadium in South Texas. However they build it PLEASE find a way to keep the endzone seating as part of it. Even if it's just one endzone and made into a horseshoe. Alice's stadium is unique in South Texas with it's endzone seating and I would hope they would bring some kind of uniqueness with the new stadium also if it happens. Don't build something plain Jane like what Seguin had or Cabaniss. As nice as Seguin's stadium was it was plain and Cabaniss is just a waste of an opportunity that CCISD had. I agree that a really nice new stadium that seated 8k would be a great ticket for playoff games for sure in R4 in the southern & eastern side. 8k is plenty big for games up to 5a in most cases and most 6a teams unless you are talking about 6a RGV teams that bring the entire town with them for the games! lol I would think even a 10k seat stadium (6k home/ 4k visitor) would then open it up to dang near any R4 PO game at that point and the cost of 2k more seats is not crazy anyway. If they keep the pressbox to a normal size and don't go and try and do a 3 or 4 story cathedral in the air I bet Alice could build a badass 10k seat stadium for well under $20m!

Good luck on getting tax payers to approve just a stadium proposal. If Prosper iSD couldn’t pass their stadium bond, I have a hard time believing Alice could. They would have to add more propositions to include facility upgrades for security, maybe a Fine Arts Center or others to entice voters to pass the bond. Prosper was asking for $50m for a 12k seat stadium. I don't blame the tax payers a damn bit for voting it down

Appreciate the input but Prosper has nothing to do with Alice. And I'm pretty sure there other things included not just the stadium. Chino, I believe that sports facilities must be broken out separate now on any bond votes. It cannot all be lumped in together with new schools, renovations and technology upgrades, etc. I believe BandidoNB has said this on this forum before??

alice calls itself the hub of south texas but in this past decade that seems to be a far cry from the truth. we always question y no teams ever pick here to play games. and thats not just football. that seems to be all outdoor games. alice seems to always host a ton of basketball games. so u know we should be able to. but when the stadium is in the shape it is, lights suck, who would want to play here anyway. we even use to host band competitions here. i would assume having those types of events generates revenue for the city as well as the school.
sad thing is people here when it comes to certain things act like oh we dont wanna change our tradition, the history behind the stadium etc. then of course taxes being raised. makes it hard to get anything done. but when ur winning and u can show visually where the money is going it might be easier to get done.

Is Alice selling out currently for games with people being turned away? Simple question that deserves a simple answer and not in any way meant as something for argument. Steele & Clemens are both 6a schools and our stadium doesn't even seat 6k right now and we make it work. smdh Yes it would be nice to have a stadium like the one in Seguin but why spend all that money when what you have works ok except for 1 or two big ball games each year like Steele/Clemens, Steele/Judson, Judson/Clemens type games when they then bring in extra seating to make it about 7500. Sorry, but I cannot see a 4a - small 5a team needing a stadium bigger than 8K or maybe a little bit more especially if the home side is 5k and the visitor is 3k.

The reason Alice doesn't host football games anymore is because the grass. Teams don't want to play on grass so they choose other sites. Having a new stadium by next season is a pipe dream, unless it's a basic stadium. I think we are 3 years out at the earliest if there us a new stadium.

A bigger stadium will get us OTHER PROGRAMS playoff games and neutral site matchups as well. I literally already said that's why Alice needs to go big with this. And I said Seguin's stadium was nice for $13.6 but very basic. Alice needs something unique to match the uniqueness of the current stadium and its endzone seating. You're putting too much emphasis on it only being a 4A program. There's borderline 6A programs around here that don't bring as many fans as Alice.

You notice Kingsville doesn't host playoffs that much if at all either. I think part of it is Region IV is now very spread out compared to the day when it went down from Austin to between Victoria and El Campo down to the RGV and back west to Del Rio. Now some of the teams are closer to Waco to the north and even into western most part of East Texas which used to be Region II or III in some of the classes. And since most of the Coastal Bend schools are now linked with the RGV schools from 5A down, we are eliminating several valley schools who used to use venues in this area to meet up in the playoffs because they are not making the playoffs. The only ones using our Coastal Bend venues in the first and second rounds are the 5A's and 6A's for the most part. Plus in the first round, 5A and 6A district champs and runners up get first round hosting rights as a reward. So that eliminates other opportunities too. But like noted by Coyotes 2018, the coaches want turf stadiums this time of the year too. They don't want to be caught off guard with an unpredicted rain on Friday or even a damp/foggy night that we start getting in November. Same goes with Baseball and Softball now. I hate baseball being played on turf, but because coaches most of the time go with best of three, they want to make sure they can get those games in and the turf fields pretty much insure it. Alice does need a new stadium.... I mean even the Bronx had to say goodbye to Yankee Stadium because it got to the point it couldn't salvaged and some day Fenway and Wrigley might meet the same fate.

There's SAFETY issues that have come up. This isn't something where they just want something new for the fun of it.

Chino, I believe that sports facilities must be broken out separate now on any bond votes. It cannot all be lumped in together with new schools, renovations and technology upgrades, etc. I believe BandidoNB has said this on this forum before?? That is correct and many bonds failed on propositions on athletic facilities across the state. Our lawmakers have made promises to lower property taxes, while taking aim on public education with school vouchers. “Voters across the state also approved a proposal this week that would drive down property taxes collected by schools, with the promise that state lawmakers would backfill that money with sales tax revenue. The Texas Tribune thanks its sponsors. Become one. And this year’s election takes place against a backdrop of political infighting over public school funding. Gov. Greg Abbott made school vouchers a top priority this year, but lawmakers ended a third special session this week without passing a school voucher bill. The governor has called lawmakers back for a fourth session. School vouchers would allow parents to use taxpayer dollars to pay for private school tuition, potentially creating an exodus from the public school system. A decline in enrollment would result in losses in public school funding, which is in part determined by average daily attendance.” Excerpt from the Texas Tribune

Matador Stadium was one of the nicer stadiums I’ve been too. Bastrop ISD and Matador spent their money in the press box areas for sure. Seguin had to replace their 60 year old stadium, due to the stadium being out of compliance with ADA. I believe it also has over 100 restrooms.

with the new superintendent here. i wonder if she really gets the ball rolling on a lot of stuff. she seems crazy involved/ invested in the students , teacher, programs, and people of alice. she could push the right buttons to get it approved along with other things other schools need.
