Unrelated side note… I went to the Corpus Christi Metro Relays on Friday. There were probably 8+ Laredo and RGV schools competing with the CC schools. The non-Corpus Christi schools dominated the meet. In just about every event, it was a Laredo or RGV school with the W. I found that very interesting. I’ve been to this meet for awhile, and almost always the CC schools fared pretty well. Not this time. I’m wondering if a power shift might be coming. Your city cares about baseball and that's about it. Accept it. If your community cared about football as much as it does baseball then maybe your football situation would be different. baseball is drawing college and pro scouts to the city and surrounding areas getting kids the opportunity to go to college. Problem is the area just isn't big enough population wise to have kids that concentrate on just football. Lot os schools in Corpus and surrounding losing kids to just baseball or basketball and not enough kids left to replace them with. I played every sport back in the 80's football, basketball, track and baseball and so did just about everyone else but the opportunities now to specialize on one sport and go to college can't blame the parents for helping their kid achieve that goal. got of topic sorry from this thread. Yall know who i'm rooting for to finally get the opportunity to lead Alice.

Interesting that Flour Bluff cares about its football.,, and yet has only 1 Round 5 appearance in its 56-year history… and made it’s only Round 5 appearance due to a judgement call that negated a winning score by a said CCISD school. That said CCISD school has 2 Round 5 appearances. And both Flour Bluff and that said CCISD school made their Round 5 appearances against the same “realignment situation”. Weird. The facts are that 3 straight round 5’s and 8 straight round 4’s (multiple schools) is pretty dang good. Corpus Christi football is just fine. Expect that same trend to continue indefinitely. You might not realize a team could get to the regional finals without having to play 4 rounds. You do this every year. By the way. That game is WAY OVER. Grow up and move on It's only February. Lol

packattack i guessing the applicant is somebody that is in the running and maybe the front runner .. traveling to laredo to watch a game that really didnt have any tournament winnings implications.. just a game to meet the quota of games for the tounry. seems to me like he was gonna go to see the talent or hes a laredo coach that applied that was gonna just go to mingle with the higher ups that were gonna be there. and thanks for sharing ur information.. some is better then none.. and we shall fond out sooner then later who the guys is gonna be. I don’t know about a power shift, but I’m seeing more and more top 3 finishers the last couple of years from Laredo and the RGV. Alice varsity boys were District and Area champs last year. Alice hosted the Area meet and almost every event had a top 3 finisher from the RGV, gave our boys a run for their money. Tough competition for sure especially in recent years. I believe it was the Wildcat relays last year, and they had strong finishes every time, Alice ran with 5A and 6A in the mix.

Alice didn't have the best showing at the baseball tournament in Laredo, but they did have a no hitter. If understand correctly, it was baserumner away from a perfect game. I didnt get the pitchers name, but congrats to him and the team.

I didnt get the pitchers name, but congrats to him and the team. Not a good showing at all, and they got another big tourney coming up this week with some powerhouse programs, the Mira’s Baseball Classic. The pitcher’s name is Manny Jacobs, he’s a senior. Should’ve been pitching last season, really needed that arm. Boys basketball team is out of the playoffs, so baseball will be getting two guys back. One is a sophomore pitcher, and probably one of the better pitchers on the team, and the other is a senior middle infielder. Both the Alice boys and girls track teams will also be in Laredo for the two day Border Olympics Track & Field meet. Definitely one of the premier T/F events in South Texas with just over 30 teams this year I believe. Good competition for both teams.

My Sophomore through senior years, TM would go to that meet and we got to meet Carl Lewis. Definitely a huge deal down there. To me it's the best meet in the state as far as how it's ran and the exposure it provides.

One thing that I’m not taking into account is that both CC Vets and CC Miller are still in the basketball playoffs, plus there was that baseball tournament in Laredo. There may have been quite a few studs from both schools missing from their track teams.

Taft coach he has been a finalist twice for the Alice position when Evans and then Atwood. Might of been seen as not ready at the time but he has seen how very good programs function and starting to display it at Taft.

Since Calallen Tournament and Mira Tournament are now on the same week for past few years they should have the champs of each play each other on Saturday night..... Calallen Tourney loaded also with some top rank teams.

Another great event for South Texas baseball.

I'm sorry but watching Atwood's brother (the track coach) brag about a 2nd place finish on Twitter is not a good look. Not if it was 2nd to a 2A program. I'm assuming Refugio was 1st at the Calhoun meet but someone correct me if I'm wrong. Agree 2nd is never anything to brag about. Refugio is without a doubt fast as hell. But you are right, it don't matter who the 2nd place finish is to...it is still 2nd place.

I'm sorry but a 4A program should have higher expectations than to brag about finishing 2nd to a 2A program. You don’t know what expectations these boys and their coach have set forth. Joey Atwood had the opportunity to leave but chose to stay for these athletes. He knows what kind of potential they have and he knows they will compete. These boys compete all the time and do a good job of doing so. You yourself have said Refugio should be a 4A classification. Their program is stacked with several athletes with D1 offers most notable being Ernest Campbell for both track and football. You arent close to the program, you don’t live here and dont know squat about what goes on here. But your hate for the Atwoods shines through, and that’s okay. Not too long ago you even said I should interact more and set you all straight every now and then, well I’m telling it like it is. I watch the boys at practice when I can and damn, none of us could ever. But again you’re not there to SEE it for yourself or the effort and discipline the coaches and these athletes put in. It’s all good though. You’re entitled to your opinion. Come on man Refugio enrollment is 215, Alice's is 1,296. Chino is speaking the truth in that a coach should have higher expectations than going on social media and bragging about a 2nd place finish. Yes, Alice ran a good time for early in the season but there is no way in hell any coach should brag about a 2nd place finish no matter who that comes against! NO WAY
