Lmao not sure how it’s bragging. I saw the tweet. Last meet they came in 2nd to a solid 5a program and this week to an elite 2A, yes 2A program, which should be a 4A and he’s bragging? How? I saw the tweet “lots of new PRs in individual events and relays”. Bro that’s an accomplishment and progress nonetheless and they’re only gonna get better. But okay. I'd be fine with bragging on the PR's that were set. But when you put, "Results are in! Another 2nd place finish for the Alice Coyote Varsity track team!" With ! and how it's worded it looks like a brag and that's a brag about finishing 2nd to a 2A program. You can call me petty or a hater if you want but THAT stuff in my opinion, or at least the thinking that comes behind it, is exactly what separates the elites from Alice. If you're cool with just getting by then good for you but don't hate on me for wishing for something more for Alice athletics. And I'm not sure you understand how high school sports work because that's multiple times now that you say Refugio should be 4A. No they shouldn't. “Bragging” about his program, those boys ARE his program. Pretty sure he was just a proud coach “bragging” about their accomplishments at the time he tweeted it and wasn’t thinking about the wording and the Twitter grammar/text structure police. Not familiar with how high school sports work? Lol I was a multi sport athlete in high school and excelled at all 4. And I know how classifications and realignments work, thanks.

what discipline issues? Because I’m close to the situation and the athletic dept. I’ve also got a few close buddies with sons who are key players on the football team. It’s a legit question. Did something happen that I’m not aware of? And especially this year? This was probably the most disciplined team in recent years. Maybe something happened that I’m not aware of. And I’m one that would know if anything had to be addressed with administration especially if it’s regarding the athletic program, academically or disciplinary. Just curious You're just going to pretend the freshmen team's season wasn't suspended because of locker room fighting and discipline issues? I think it was the freshman team I can't remember. Bunch of kids were arrested for it were they not? Maybe if we use a different word other than "discipline" you'll understand... "CULTURE". The culture is just different with the player/coach dynamic from what it was in the past with Alice. Coach Willie is the only one I ever see yelling and holding players accountable on those sidelines and he just got to Alice last season. Before that I didn't see any of that while roaming those sidelines. Hell I remember Alice getting whooped by Southside in 2018 losing 70 something to garbage and Alice players on the sidelines taunting Southside players that were lining up to kickoff because they had just scored the 70 something. I couldn't believe the stupidity in that or that being how the players think. You're getting your ass whooped by 50 or whatever it was and you want to taunt the opponent? And no coaches said anything. This is why I'm happy to have Coach Willie on staff because he absolutely does hold the players accountable and he's the 1 coach already on staff that I wouldn't have minded seeing apply for the HC/AD opening. Well aware of that situation. Thought you were talking about varsity. With the freshman team, the coaches handled it accordingly. Unfortunately what the public doesn’t know is that too was taken to the superintendent and the board. THAT was then overturned by them and they got a slap on the wrist, thanks to influence from certain parents’ buddy board members. Again, taking away authority abd the final say from the AD. See how that works? Parents and their friends at the top step in, things are swept under the rug or fixed behind closed doors and the AD and coaching staff has no control. Im all for holding them accountable, spoke up about it and lost a friend (father of one of the kids) in the process because I felt like what he and the other parents did was wrong. But he’s good friends with the higher ups so “he’s above the law”.

I have said nothing bad about the actual athletes. Like I said, it's an opinion and if you don't like it good for you I just don't think a Coach should be happy with a 2nd place finish to a 2A program. There I used the word HAPPY instead of BRAGGING. Maybe now you'll get it. No you won't. And yes you have no idea how classification realignments work if you keep saying Refugio should be 4A.

And yes I do believe you still bench those players. If the Super or board or whatever other excuse you keep using for nothing being Atwood's fault wants to step in and not let you remove players from the program then you can still bench their asses and not give them playing time. You know as well as I do that the REAL reason that doesn't happen is because a coach cares more about winning than anything else. At some point you have to grow a pair and sacrifice a game or games or even a season if it is what is necessary to send a message.

It's almost all the same board members as when Soza was here and I clearly remember Soza having no problem at all kicking the problem athletes off the team. Hell he even got jumped by one of the family members of a player he sent packing. The point is that a coach can do this if they want and it's horse crap excuses from Atwood fanboys to keep acting like he had no control at all and nothing was his fault.

And I do agree with you, but again, this is Alice. When he met with the parents and the powers that be they laughed in his face. That’s when parents went to war. On that note, I’m in Laredo with a couple buddies and I hear one of the applicants will be in attendance for today’s game. You fellas have a good day, if I hear anything I’ll check in later.

IF and that’s a REALLY BIG IF the board can control the head coach’s decisions it sounds like the superintendent needs to do their job. ANY board at any school should not control individual issues that should be the superintendent’s job. But that’s just my opinion

My first year in Beeville I got called into the AD office and told 3 months into the soccer season, that I would be putting the Mayor's daughter on Varsity and she would start immediately as well. When I said no, I was told if I wanted to keep my career I would do as I was told. Needless to say we went from 2nd in district to 5th and out of the playoffs in less than a month... She was a cancer and most of the team HATED her... So I know those types of things happen even toi AD's because he was told to make it happen with me. He didn't want to either. That was one reason he left there and moved to Brewer after that year. The board and Supt. Had their hand in everything athletic related. If the right kids didn't play, problems happened.

These coaches all need to bond together and start exposing stuff on social media. If they're all in it together then at some point there's nothing corrupt board members can do. Coaches should call out the bs on social media.

That 42.8 is legit! When my boy was a junior/senior they ran the 4x100 in the 43.3-44.5 range consistently. 4x200 best time was a 1:28.8 as a junior... ended up 8th in State out of 9. Covid ended a very promising 2020 track team. Got himself 2 times under 11 seconds before the Covid end, 10.81 at Alice and 10.72 at FB the following meet. Relays were killing it too. I love track season! lol I saw an 8th grade Flour Bluff kid run what supposedly was an 11.06 last night. That's phenomenal as an 8th grader!! Last year in 4a it took a time in the 41s to be in the top 5 at state. In 5a it took a time in the 40s to be top 5. Boerne Champion went 42.04 and was dead last in 9th with that time. Refugio won 2a 4x100 last year with a 41.93. I think the sprinter sotex is talking about for them is campbell who anchored that relay and won the 100 himself with a 10.32. Dude can scoot. Just saw where FT Bend Marshall and Ridge Point both had sub 41 sec times in the sprint relay in FEBRUARY. That is just flying.

As you and others know, this is why Region 3 and Region 2 tend to dominate sports. They are truly faster than Region 4 and Region 1. I'm not sure if it's the fact that facilities are just way better, the amount of athletes in the proverbial pool is greater, or the water is just better for building athletes up in those areas, but it is definitely a thing.

He did make them somewhat competitive, but nothing worth writing home about...
