LMAO at the “ be careful what you wish for posts “ in reference to Alice fans wanting Atwood out lol dude this is almost as bad as it gets .. mediocre /underachieving seasons , constantly missing the playoffs , losing records , giving up 70 plus points in games , coaches getting out coached ,no adjustments during games , 1st round exits, Players quitting , no player leadership , poor attendance by Alice fans , ugly uniforms and logo .. the list goes on … if this ain’t rock bottom it’s pretty close … I’d rather have a new coach come in and use Alice as a stepping stone for a few years and then Leave if it meant the program experienced a couple of successful / special seasons ( 2008 .. 1998..199 etc ) every now and then What stands out to me is players quitting. Seems like Atwood has had a lot of that during his tenure, something ain’t right.

Ticket sales aren't great either. So many empty seats during the regular season and playoffs during Atwood time as HC. He's driven away a lot of fans. That’s why Alice’s fan fill up the visitors side & students section than the home side …. That’s a shame, I remember when we played Hidalgo when Cochino posted on his “South Texas Bloodsport Page” about that issue

It took a week and I finally had time to digest this loss. I don't live in Alice but still have family there. Yes, Alice is a football town and how the football team goes, so goes the town. I get it. But the vibe I get isn't the doom and gloom that's painted on here. Are there somethings that could be better?? Different? Of course, but look around and every school district in the state and you have to same issues. I think many times, we lack perspective and fail to see what is right in front of us. Lets be honest. If we had all the answers, we'd be coaching or we'd be running for school board. We're all has beens who spend our free time playing arm chair coach. I am not an Atwood apologist, at all. But here are the facts... since he arrived as athletic director, girls volleyball made the playoffs, boys and girls basketball has made the playoffs, girls powerlifting won state, cross country has had a representative at state for the past 3 years, softball and baseball made the playoffs, boys and girls soccer has made the playoffs, the track team has been to state. I will challenge you to name a time when the athletic department as a whole has seen this much success. Just look at the twitter pages of some of the student athletes and they personally thank the coaches for their support and guidance. The end of the season hurt but as a whole, the season was pretty solid. They beat two 5A playoff teams, gave Calallen their only test all year, the blowouts of the valley teams gave the younger get some playing time, the sub varsity teams all had winning records, and of course...made the playoffs. Unfortunately, Alice ran into the buzzsaw that is the Calhoun Sandcrabs. I happen to think Alice gave Calhoun a better game than Canyon Lake did, but thats just me. A say all this to say...be careful what you wish for. If Atwood leaves, either by choice or if he's forced out, do you really think another quality AD is going to look at the success Atwood had and still get beat up by public perception. You might get another coach who uses Alice as a step stone for a high profile job. Which, as a result, leaves not only the football team, but the athletic department in constant rebuild mode. Look no further than Calallen, Refugio, PLC to name of few. You know why those programs are so successful? Many reasons, but the underlying issue that no one talks about.... STABILITY. Atwood has done a ton of HAYWIRE decisions as head football coach after the 2017 with his typical mismanagement like poor play call, wasting timeouts in crucial situations, players quitting or transferring & loyalty to his staff close to him (that cost Soza his job for keeping his DC Silva which they treated Soza like Old Yeller) …. You seem more of an “Coach Atwood Apologist” but your spot on about the basketball, track, softball & baseball programs being on the map, but Atwood as AD he has a solid record for STABILITY on building up the other programs that have made playoffs if that’s on the map he’s more of an Athletic Director at least. We had a great season despite being in a weak district when we took teams to the woodshed with Calallen being our only competition till we unexpectedly got SHOCKED by Coach Whit & Calhoun …. I still couldn’t believe that. Everyone in Coyote Country is scratching their heads & wondering why we’re not playing next week vs Boerne …. Atwood’s piss poor coaching decisions, not pulling tricks in that playbook & no adjustments is the reason of this. Atwood is more of an Athletic Director than a head coach ….. As far as I’m concerned & I’m going to keep saying this “I’m DONE with Atwood as head coach”

That’s part of the issue, they’re posting that we’re selling their tickets & people comment, I know you & your family go to the games …. That’s also another reason why is the food especially on the home side on the south & north west side. My sister’s boss is in charge on the one in the northwest side they sell “Chick-Fil-A” sandwiches & at the same bill, I seriously agree with our football program being solid for a while can bring stability back to the football program that’ll get the tradition going like it did from the 80’s & 90’s …. I miss the days there big dawg

The history of the Coyote Shield Share
Thursday September 26, 2019 by Pete Garcia
It’s been almost 30 years since the Alice Coyotes regularly wore what those who closely follow the program call the “Coyote Shield” on their helmets. Still, the old decal worn through the 1980s has become an Alice football icon and a symbol of pride.
It often pops up on shirts, Yeti mugs and most recently as part of the Alice Coyote Football Alumni’s logo. However, as much as the shield is a part of Alice’s tradition, its original design was inspired by the shield worn on the NFL's Oakland Raiders helmets.
When coach Bob Boyd took over the Alice football program in 1981, he added the shield to the Coyotes’ white helmets. Before that, Alice’s helmets simply sported an orange Coyote. Boyd, a Victoria native, was drafted by the San Diego Chargers from New Mexico State University. He wasn’t a fan of the Raiders, but he always liked the franchise’s shield.
“Playing for the Chargers, the Raiders were our rivals,” Boyd recalled. “I didn’t care for them much. They put a big old knot on my head once, but I always liked their shield and thought it was kind of cool on the side of a helmet.”
When he became a head coach for the first time at Kerrville Tivy in the late 1970s, he incorporated the shield in the Antlers’ helmets. He brought the shield with him to Alice. He added a Coyote and of course, ALICE. It was simple, but strong and powerful.
When Boyd left Alice after three seasons, he also used variations of the shield at Corpus Christi Ray, Harlingen and Sugarland Clements before becoming a college coach at Texas A&M University.
Coach Bruce Bush kept the Coyote Shield when he arrived in Alice in 1983. The only change he made was making it larger. The shield stayed on Alice’s helmets until the Van Tom Whatley era in the 1990s.
Coach Brent Davis brought back the shield on Alice’s helmets for a couple of games in the 2008 season. That’s when current head coach Kyle Atwood first saw it. He was a new coach at the time and the Coyotes’ playoff run that season combined with the Alice community and its passion for high school football made a lasting impression.
“There aren’t very many places like Alice where football and its history and tradition mean so much to the community,” Atwood said. “I just think it’s neat to recognize that history.”
That’s why the Coyotes are reviving the old shield for the homecoming game Friday night by wearing it on their orange helmets, the same helmets purchased through a player fundraiser two years ago.
“That means a lot to the history of our program,” Atwood said of the shield. “It looks good, and the kids are excited about wearing those helmets Friday night.”
Alice and Tuloso-Midway are squaring off in their District 15-5A, Div. II opener. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Stadium.

Calallen’s Phil Danaher, who led the Wildcats to the Class 5A Division II title game and became the state’s winningest football coach this season.
