CP understands this all too well in the Austin area... if you aren't West Lake, Lake Travis or even AISD Bowie... you don't get the coverage you'd expect for a program having the long term success that CP has had in the area! Hard to believe with that much success the lack of media time CP gets. Have to wonder why? Other teams scared CP will get their players? The media definitely helps teams get coverage. That helps and facilitates recruiting efforts. uhhh.. Cedar Park doesn't recruit players. It would be nice however for the High School and the community to get some recognition from the Austin American Statesman (AAS). Oh sure we'll get a small write-up whereas those schools I mentioned above will get a half page or even full page write-ups. It's not like we are 50 miles away. I guess in a sense if someone moves into the Austin area and is looking for schools to attend, then perhaps newspaper articles do lead to... and I use the term loosely... recruiting families with kids to a school district or even a specific school; but IMO, it probably is more word-of-mouth and what a family can afford in the way of housing. West Lake & Lake Travis are extremely expensive areas... but Cedar Park is catching up fast just based upon the growth in NW Travis & Williamson Counties.

Never gonna happen as long as WL and or LT are winning. I hear ya man. Hell, I remember back in the day when Judson started turning the corner in the early 80s. I will never forget on that first state championship run they had in 83' when the Express News and the SA Light news papers started calling them SA Judson...……. Before that run and them beating SA's best teams (Holmes, Jay, and Churchill) the wouldn't give Judson the time of day! It took all of about a week for the good folks of Converse, Kirby, and Universal City to straighten out those two news papers and the 3 TV news stations and let them all know that Judson was NOT San Antonio......they were Converse Judson!

Yea. Corpus suddenly adopts (or tries too) once we are the lone dog standing from the city in late November or December.

I don’t believe CP is far out in the Austin media market. I just think that Westlake, Lake Travis and Austin ISD will monopolize the limited sportswriters. Oh and Im sure UT takes up a lot of sports articles. Southside is in the same boat. Limited coverage, but it’s also not due to being outside of the media market. It’s still in San Antonio. Even closer than CP is to Austin. But the lack of success of schools south of downtown hasn’t helped their media exposure. They are now starting to break through. Currently all of the successful schools are in north SA or north of SA.

The other issue that Floresville has had for years and now Southside has seen the last few seasons is that when you are not in a district with multiple SA teams you get zero coverage from the Express-News and perhaps a slight 5-second nod from the SA TV networks. The Corpus area media is not going to cover schools out of their region unless they are that weeks match up. It creates a big black hole for the in-between schools.
The EN hardly even gets the district records updated or stats published for outer SA teams.

Speaking of Floresville, why is it that they always struggle on the gridiron?

It had a little spike during the peak of the Eagle Ford drilling boom. When it went down, towns like Floresville, Kenedy, Karnes City, Pleasenton came down to earth. It's picked up, but not nearly as crazy like it was back around 2010 to 2014. The thing is many of the workers who work oil field don't necessarily move their families to these smaller cities and chose to keep them where they are at and commute or lodge out in the field. The cities and ISD's benefit with more tax money going into their bank accounts and along with more places to eat and retail stores (Kenedy has a real nice HEB for a town it's size) , but the populations of the ISD's have stayed stable for the most part

The big issue with Floresville growth is lack of infrastructure. The town only got cable TV high-speed internet a couple years ago (not a joke). The newer subdivisions still don't have city/county sewer so you need a septic system and the system needs an overhaul. It's small town politics with big city issues they can't handle or don't really want to address.

Actually, the Austin City Limits bumps up to Cedar Park! You're right though... as long as there is a West Lake, Lake Travis, or 6a AISD schools, the AAS sportswriters will be humping their legs and not paying attention to CP!

So you are saying 1.5-2 hours by road then in average 7am or 5pm traffic. I was at a pre-bid job walk about 2.5 miles just west of Downtown in the Tarrytown area of Austin last week and it ended about 5:15. Using my nav app on my phone I took the quickest route out and that was west through downtown. An hour and 15 minutes later I made it to 130 on the east side of Austin. From there I made it home to St Hedwig (90 or so miles) in 65 minutes. SMH I've had job offers in Austin including one from my own company for significantly more salary...…..HELL NO!!!!!

That’s why I don’t work downtown!! Your right though, I drive maybe 8-10 miles to the Domain area (halfway to Downtown Austin) every day and it takes anywhere from 30 - 45 minutes on average each way! Going home is worse most days!! 🥵

Coach Ricky Lock duplicated what a Coach over at Port Lavaca did years ago. Coach Richard Whitaker took over a losing team that had not made the playoffs since 1961. They had played in the state title game the year before. Coach Whitaker took over and had a tough first year and went 2-8 and he met with parents and recruited players and got them to buy in to his philosophy. PLC has been a competitor every since and was recently voted most underated Coach in Texas by Dave Campbell Mag. Coach Whitaker has done a tremendous job building that PLC football program into a perennial power... Southside has really improved.. Fun to watch schools turn their programs around...

Hard to believe with that much success the lack of media time CP gets. Have to wonder why? Other teams scared CP will get their players? The media definitely helps teams get coverage. That helps and facilitates recruiting efforts. Recruiting efforts? What are you saying here, CP recruits players? Chill out CNN. The big schools like LT and Westlake have a control on media coverage which helps them recruit players. The coaching staffs don't have to lift a finger the media does that for them. The more players see the more they want to go there. If the media gave CP the same type of coverage more players might want to go play for CP. It's pretty basic to understand.
