Southside is in a geographically large school district. And with the growth now headed to south SA, it’s only a matter of time before Southside is 6A. I’m sure we will eventually see a 6A district which includes Southwest, Legacy, South San and Southside.

It would not be good to move up to 6A and these teams not compete. The schools need to be prepared. Look at the issues Southsan faces getting thrown into that 6A district. We must be ready.

Southsans issues are far deeper than just athletics. The closing of West Campus around 2000 to move up to then 5A. Corrupt School board members and Superintendent have set them back decades.

Yea this isn’t 1-2 years away or anything. This is further off. But Southside is ahead of South San here. Southside could probably move to that 26-6A district now and compete better than South San. The Bobcats got one of the worst realignments in the state.

Coach Lock has done a tremendous job making that Southside Cardinal football program along with his DC Coach Vincent. They develop a winning culture the past few seasons with the small depth he’s work with which he develop All-Staters & going on to the collegiate level. 2018 was the BEST in his tenure. If the board let’s him continue to maintain that stature of a winning culture hopefully he’ll be coaching on that Southside sidelines for a while.

Nice article Had to chuckle a couple times though man. Once at the pic of the scoreboard of the PLC game and then again at the quote saying "They are too far south for the San Antonio media to cover". What? lmao SS HS is about 5.5 miles south of Loop 410 and only about 12.5 miles from downtown SA. I see SS winning district this year and next and improving their record so far in the playoffs.

As far as Southside goes, yup, they likely will be 6a eventually but I don't see that happening for at least 2, probably more like 3-4 realignments (6-8 years). If they keep building they way they have they will be fine but the one thing they must do when the time nears is schedule some solid 6a teams to get used to what they will be seeing every Friday night once that time comes.

Understand why, but would have really liked to see SS and Calhoun continue to play for a while.

Well to be fair the SA media sticks to teams north of downtown. Unless they are covering the frontier bowl or holy bowl games.

CP understands this all too well in the Austin area... if you aren't West Lake, Lake Travis or even AISD Bowie... you don't get the coverage you'd expect for a program having the long term success that CP has had in the area!

Southside gets no coverage at all. Being thrown into the coastal bend district made it even worse. Like the poster above said the media covers the Northside. Those are just facts.

Have to wonder why? Other teams scared CP will get their players? The media definitely helps teams get coverage. That helps and facilitates recruiting efforts.

Do you think that possibly the reason the media gives more attention to teams north of downtown it could be simply due to the success those teams have had versus the ones south of downtown? I cannot think of one 5a or 6a team south of downtown that has made a deep run in the playoffs the past 20 years. If I'm wrong about that I apologize but I simply do not recall one. I'm not saying everyone doesn't deserve some coverage but the simple fact is that the teams that produce big wins are going to get the coverage over the ones that do not. That said, I do think I recall more than just one of two pieces on Southside these past couple of seasons that were written.

Winning helps too, but media coverage panders to it's most loyal customers. Also the SA media likes to use teams like Southside, Floresville and SAISD of the world as feel good stories when they have success. SA Memorial got a ton of feel good stories and only a few football success write ups a few seasons ago. Just the nature of the beast.
