That’s a tough one to put your season on a one roll of the dice. GP won 2-0 against RGC with games 2&3 if needed today at RGC at 5pm. Calallen will always go for the three game series, so this one was a roll of the dice on Palmview's part. One gamers usually take down a big favorite this time of year and those who are heavy underdogs having nothing to lose. I think Palmview was somewhere a few games north of .500. A few years ago, Moody was riding high and they played Alice in a one gamer. For what the chatter was back then, Moody had offered to play the entire series in Alice if they could do three instead of one. Alice had one outstanding pitcher who pratically won most of their games and was Alice's season record was few games north of .500. Sure enough the Alice pitcher probably pitched the game of his life and the Moody pitcher had his worse outing and Alice moved on. The Cal pitcher pitched well to win the game and reached his pitch count after the 7th. We left a ton of runners in scoring postiion all night long including a few bases loaded, but the lower end of our order was flat which has been an issue a few times this season. Why adjustments are not done before it really counts puzzles me, but it's been kind of trend the last few seasons. Hence our playoff runs have been shorter than the norm and certainly no where close to first decade of this century. To me some introspection needs to be taken because we are too long gone from Round Rock or even making a serious run. First comment, we do not fair well in coin tosses. Lost one game toss and home field toss. Second comment, I agree not many adjustments are being made once the season starts. Third, errors killed us last night. Lastly, lead off man on third base in the top of the seventh with no outs and we do not get him home someway. Finally, I believe we lost all our games this year on walk off hits!

F No doubt. I think yall should fire your coach. Obviously he doesn't know what he's doing. Eye roll. Seriously I hate one game PO. Baseball is not a one and done game. Even district games are home and away.

Comment two is directly tied to comment three. My thinking for the last several years is we have 15 or more on the bench and I would think a few of them would be itching at the chance to contribute and try to reverese a negative. But for some reason they are not even given the time of day and just gather dust on the bench. I don't know, but once upon a time we did a good job making adjustments on the fly, but you just don't see it now and this is despite having more talent available vs back then where throwing the kid into the fire was a hit or miss propostition. A few of those kids would be starters at a number of schools in our region. Ever sense we lost that playoff game back in 2013 to Alamo Heights in a epic meltdown fashion, things haven't been the same. I'll just say I have my theories why.

I would say our baseball staff should look at the football staff and how they went about recalibrating the machine after that 2014 season. Some different approaches need to be taken from all involved. And yes one gamers shouldn't be an option as almost all tourney baseball/softball championship competitions are double elimination even in the very early rounds. But as it stands now, you have to assume even early in the season, the one game possiblity might be a reality in May.

I am upset because it would have been great for a GP vs Cal rematch at Whataburger field if they both made it that far.

I would pay serious money just to be in ear shot when it got suggested your baseball brain trust take any advice from your football staff. Remind me who has SC rings.

Any time a team exits the playoffs people start to question the coaches and their program. Chapman has served Calallen very well over the years and has the rings to prove it. At some point all coaches have years when things don’t always go according to plan. We at GP know that all too well. GP still has to win one of the two at RGC to move on to play next week. At Calallen all BS aside, both your football and baseball head coaches are in the latter years of coaching. What’s the game plan to eventually replace those coaches?

I would pay serious money just to be in ear shot when it got suggested your baseball brain trust take any advice from your football staff. Remind me who has SC rings. Lol! Well in football's defense, it's MUCH harder to win a state title in the first place and that goes for any one of the thousand something teams on the high school level across the state. And its much harder for team from these parts to win one on top of the overwhelming odds that are against you from the get go. This goes more along the lines that football did a good job of refocusing the program on the deep run and playing in December vs dominating district and then laying an egg early in the playoffs. We kind of did that in 2013 and 2014 (of course we didn't win district and barely made the cut in 2014). But right after that season, it was back to doing boot camp, building team leadership and dare I say encorage kids who might not have been asked to step up to do so and I think the results from 2015 to present have paid off. Baseball could use a similar focus on some of those same attributes. To put it in simple terms if I were coaching next January when the first practice starts, the old saying all positions are open and no one has made any of the teams from Varsity down to Freshmen would be applicable which would include returning lettermen. I think the whole program from current players to even incoming players could use the shock value of kind of going back to the basics which worked well when the road to Austin/ Round Rock for the Region IV 4A/5A Rep pretty much went through Calallen or Robstown.

There is nothing wrong with asking questions. But sometimes it goes off the rails when pitch fork and torches comeout after a really down year. I think those should be reserved if the trend becomes an issue for three or more years. As far as transitions for both. Who knows? At least with baseball, I've heard anything from one of the current assistants taking over to some wanting a former assitant to comeback and run the show. I guess the same is the case for football.

GP, King, and Vets all lost their series games today.
When was the last time all the Corpus area higher classifications hung up the cleats this early and will not be having to juggle graduation ceremonies with baseball?

Congrats to District 31-5A as they put it to Districts 29 & 30 in the baseball playoffs this weekend. Sharyland, Pioneer, RGC, & Palmview all advance to the 3rd round beating the best of the Corpus Christi area baseball teams. Good luck!

Sinton takes two on Saturday 7-3 and 12-0 in 5 innings against Cuero. Sinton drop game 1 3-1 giving up 3 unearn runs in 1st inning against Brett Brown, Brown gave up two hits to first two batters and only 1 hit the rest of the game in the loss. One bad inning and Sinton season could had been over if this was a one gamer. Stranded runners every inning and couple of bases loaded.
Sinton been missing two players for most of the season both are back and playing 3 games help get them back up to speed. One of them is a pitcher that was 3-0 with a save and a 0.00 era when he was in lineup a 4 year starter.
Sinton gave up one earned run the 3 game series. Defense needs make routine plays every inning and come up with the timely hits.
Robstown swept Navarro in 2 games, 6-5 in GM 1 and 4-1 in GM 2. That last game they beat a good hard throwing lefty.
Sinton vs Robstown in Rd 3 in region qtr finals. Sinton was district champion and Robstown finish as the 4th seed.
Both games this season could of gone either way. Sinton came back and won in Robstown in first meeting 5-3 but were down 3-0 most of the game. Second meeting in Sinton game was 0-0 going to bottom of the 6th before Sinton was able to get couple of runs across and win 2-0. Brett Brown had 14 strike outs in game 2 for Sinton and also pitched in the first meeting before Zach Moses came in the last two innings for save striking all 6 batters he faced.
Hoping for a home and home series. Both have good seating for this matchup. Sinton 29-7 and only one game they were out of it against Edinburgh Vela, rest errors cost them those games .

Another good matchup is in 3a, Bishop vs Odem in Rd 3
Refugio also advanced.
So 4a, 3a and 2a teams left to keep the coastal bend streak alive of sending someone to state.
