Valley very strong in baseball this year, 5a and 6a. Good job Valley! they came up to the level of coastal bend teams and this year over took them. Coastal bend teams were rank very high several of them showing no fluke they were up there also. Bring back a state title to south texas and RGV.

Coastal Bend streak of sending a team to state tournament ends at 17 straight years. Refugio and Bishop lose over the weekend. Refugio in 3 games and Bishop in 2 games. Look very promising coastal bend would send one or more to Round Rock/Austin this season but not this year. Great year and some good baseball still was played in coastal bend this year and start a new streak in 2020!

None the less it’s odd not seeing one team or more making the trip next week. Hopefully it’s just one those years and not a trend.

Crazy to think there is nobody repping the CB at the tourney this coming weekend. I think it leans more to other baseball programs getting better more than it does a 'fall off' of the CB teams.

Local news said 25 years. I think it's a little bit of both. No doubt some of the RGV programs are getting better and much faster vs football for sure. But I think some of it is kind of down year in this area. When I see Coastal Bend teams going to pre district tourneys upstate and not exactly dominating mediocre teams and then beating other top tier teams or playing them within a run or two either way, then I know something is off. This was one of those years where none of the usual suspects here made noise even in our local tourneys which ironically were missing some of the bigger names from upstate for some odd reason this year. I can't really speak internally what is happening at other Coastal Bend baseball power schools or some of the up and coming ones who are fielding competitive teams like TM. In our case I think some of our kids just get burned out to dang early. I've seen us exit the playoffs way too early for several seasons now dating back to 2012 and that is when the year around baseball ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$) thing really got it's kick start here. I could write a whole manifesto on why this wrong headed, but I won't go there. Some of our state title or runner up teams were loaded with two and even three sport athletes and not necessarily reliant on one or two kids who were garnering college or even pro attention. I think we need to go back to cutting kids it anything to send a message that you are not entitled to position in this program because of what you did on a youth league all star team or whatever pay to play league or tourney. But I'll tell you this, I throughly enjoyed watching our girls softball team and their state run this year. Those girls had fun even when they had to overcome some adversity. Having fun while working hard has been MIA on the baseball diamond the last several seasons. The teams that won state in baseball had multiple contributors and even some of them coming off the bench to get a key hit or substitute for a player who might have been having a bad day or stuck in a rut. They didn't rely on the same nine and hope the above noted notoriety from being a youth league all star or pay to play tourney stud would show up eventually. If we start there and take a page from the girls and maybe even the football program and how things they reset after the near playoff miss in 2014, then our baseball program MIGHT get back to Round Rock sooner rather than later. But sadly I don't see any movement that direction. And trust me I would love to be proved wrong.

Congrats to Rylan, his twin brother should be getting some offers soon also. As a Pirate fan hoping they still play football also.
