There is going to be a certain ethnicity/ reliogion in any community that will not play sports in general. It's not unique to Port Lavaca.
Palacios, Bay City, Victoria, Rockport, Dallas , NYC, Miami, Stockholm, and Bejing all have various ethnicities that prodomitnately do not play sports.

I think the numbers for PLC are a bit misleading as well. As someone from PLC posted a few months ago, we have a large asian population in our county and really don't have the participation from them in football. By no means is this a negative comment, just merely pointing out the disadvantage for us come snapshot day. Sorry, but that is about as dumb as saying - our numbers are misleading as well. We have a large female population in our ... One of the last (if not the last) great college football player from this area was Dat Ngyuen. So instead of using the Thai and Vietnam population as a lame excuse (which by the way PLC and its success doesn't need), why don't you go recruit those guys and teach them the game, like Rockport use to do and imagine the success you could have. You don't get it. Do you? They are NOT allowed to play by their parents. Bottom line. They are strictly school for education only. The Vietnamese* population however does participate. They are very americanized at this point

There may not be too many parents like that in some towns, but I can guarantee they exist everywhere.

Talked with someone in the Calhoun athletic department today. Was told there was 1080 students walking the halls this spring at CHS.

Some koreans as well. Their kids do not play.Everyone once in a blue moon yes. But we aren't talking about a few hispanic or black or white families. Were talking a whole segment of the local population. It is What it is and those kids do excelllent on our UIL academic teams.

Sorry but your comment is BS. It is a fact about PLCs population being a big percentage of Asian (that do not play sports) If your school does, in fact, have a large female population....they should attract a lot of big, strong, athletic boys to help out with your football team. If they don't attract them, maybe there is a reason. :-)

Fort Bend Clements is 43.1% Asian, Fort Bend Kempner is 33.2% Asian, Fort Bend Austin is 34.9% Asian, Fort Bend Dulles is 33.1% Asian -- THOSE are some large Asian populations.

No offense, but cry me a river on the PLC enrollment comparisons to the bigger 4A schools. Back when I played Alice had basically the same enrollment they do now yet we were 5A. And that's when 5A down here was still respected. District my senior year... Carroll, Miller, Kingsville, Ray, Moody, King, Alice, Victoria High, Victoria Stroman. A 9 team 5A district. These kids have it easy now. Only 5, 6 or 7 team districts and the cut off numbers way lower than back in the day. We had 1 non-district game to start then already in week 2 we were playing a district game verses Victoria High. These kids now get a 0 week, 3, 4 or 5 non-district games and a bye week before starting district. Boo hoo hoo. Calallen went 12-2 that season. They werent in our district obviously but played Ray in a non-district game and lost. Calallen's 2 losses were to Ray and to Austin Westlake in round 4 of the playoffs with Cody Danaher QB-ing. That same Ray team finished 7th in our district. Now that was the greatest local district ever in my opinion. Oh and I also walked 50 miles in the snow to get to school everyday

Yep. I think Kingsville dropped to 4A in 1994 and Alice dropped down in 1996. I could swear both dropped together? Could be possible. I just really remember there being a little period where Alice and Kingsville didn't play.
