These guys are slow learners for someone supposed to be professionals making a living doing this it would first appear but the truth is they cater to their magazine buying areas.

Nope, pretty sure they suck up to larger populations that buy their rag is a lot more on target.

Nope, pretty sure they suck up to larger populations that buy their rag is a lot more on target. Sooo... last year when they picked Guyer #1 and Cedar Park #2 in the preseason that was, what, "sucking up to larger populations that buy their rag"? The rest of their 4A top 10 from last season: John Tyler, Highland Park, Dawson, Leander, Wichita Falls Rider, Aledo, Calallen, Angleton. JT and Rider were right on the money. HP and Dawson didn't end up being top 5 teams but looked legit in the preseason. Leander had a strong year with the only losses coming to Cedar Park (by 4) and Flour Bluff (by 2); I wouldn't say that projection was far off the mark. Aledo's only two losses came against state champs and probably would have made a deeper run had they not run up against Guyer in the second round. The real whiff in the top ten was... Calallen. The major whiffs were Georgetown and Lancaster, neither of which was ranked in the preseason. So you may have a point on that count, but (a) Lancaster's a DFW team, Georgetown's an Austin-area team, and (b) DCTF was hardly alone in whiffing on those two.

They were spot on with Denton Guyer and Cedar Park. That was about everyone's consensus Top 2 tams in 4A for 2012. In 2012 Flour Bluff did make the State Quarterfinals (Region IV Finals), which is the top 16 teams in the playoffs for 4A. In 2005 & 2006 a similar situation happened. Flour Bluff went in under the radar and was undefeated and went to the 4A State Quarterfinals (Region IV Finals) in 2005. Lost a close game with Pfluggerville Connally. Then in 2006 Flour Bluff was ranked in the preseason. Not as strong of a team as 2005 team though. Flour Bluff did repeat with a return to the 4A State Quarterfinals (Region IV Finals) and lost to eventual State Champion Alamo Heights. In 2009 Flour Bluff made it to the 3rd Round Region IV semifinals and lost to eventual State Champion Lake Travis. In 2010 Flour Bluff was ranked in the preseason, but that turned out to be a down year. So it is always the knee-jerk response of prediction from what happened the previous year. Pure sign of only focusing on the DFW, Austin, SA, and Houston areas. I am with FB Fan in that the 2013 Flour Bluff team will not be a weak team and should get some recognition for being a State Quarterfinalist in 2012. Leander Rouse should get some respect as well. I don't expect to see Highland Park, Georgetown and Nederland in the mix this year. Definitely overrated in this preseason poll. We can revisit this come December. see who the pretenders are and who the real teams are.

You have to realize that there were a lot of damn good teams that lost in the early rounds to some great teams. There always are year in and year out. There are many times the competition down here in the 1st and 2nd rounds simply aren't that good. Add to the fact that you have div.1 and div.2 teams playing in the same classification come playoff time.

If you live in Corpus and follow the teams in that area, you probably see the rankings and since you think the Coastal Bend teams are better than most people around the state do, you see it as a slight. I admittedly am biased in favor of DFW teams, though granted, I'm actually not seeing any DFW teams that look like they're way lower than they should be. Maybe Lovejoy. Poteet actually might be worse than 15 since they lost their coach. Of course, unlike college football, high school rankings don't mean a thing. Everything will be decided on the field.

When the Yankee lady announced that she had had all her children in and after moving to Texas, the Texas lady told her, "just because your cat has kittens in an old oven doesn't make them biscuits."
I was born and grew up and went to school in DFW and have now lived in the Coastal Bend for 20 years.
Anything else you want to tell me?
Again, not necessarily to do with the CB but DCTF mag is notoriously wrong on a regular basis.

Yes, it is nice to see your team in print to start off the season but to be completely honest I could give a crap less where my teams are ranked to start the year off...........I ONLY care where they are the week before Christmas!

E-E made the top 100!!! With 8/7 starters and 36 returning lettermen and a 3rd round appearance, they had no choice but include E-E in the top 100! yeah babe!

I think this is simply because they put so much in to it in order to include each and every HS in the state. It simply does not allow them enough time to do truly thorough 'homework'!

I prefer it when Cal is nowhere near the top 25, although if we can get our offense going this year we could make a deep run in the playoffs. We'll see...
