It's not about if they rank some team its about the effort they put into their report of certain areas. If you still don't get it, keep buying it for 10 or 15 more years and then you will like we have and do.

DCTF magazine is not a 50 cent or $1.00 Supermarket Tabloid. It is an $11.00 magazine and should be as accurate as possible. The SWAG's for El Paso and South of San Antonio areas are quite evident. There is definitely more work put into the DFW area and to the powerhouse teams. It is still a good source of info, plus the Texas College Football info. The "cute" poster pullout reminds back in my childhood days of the football player posters I would put up on my wall (along with the beautiful ladies of that time!). Well, I'm still confused as to what the inaccuracies we're complaining about are. Again... last year DCTF totally whiffed on Calallen (who turned out to be worse than expected) and Flour Bluff (better than expected), but it doesn't really seem like they were alone in this. Or am I wrong? What's more, it doesn't really seem like they're more accurate in DFW than down south. Last year they had Highland Park at #4, Dallas Kimball at #15, and Waxahachie at #24. HP was good but definitely not top 5, Kimball got waxed by Frisco Centennial (who was unranked, btw) in the second round, and Waxahachie finished fourth in their district. And, I don't really buy into the theories about magazine sales. If they for some reason didn't rank Denton Guyer in the top 25, that's not going to affect my decision whether to purchase the magazine or not. Tom, I think DCTF does a pretty good job for picking the 'top dogs' year in and year out........at least in most of the state. However, I think historically they've been lacking on their predictions of the R4 teams. I can tell you that in 2006 they had Clemens picked either 3rd or 4th in their district when SC returned a TON of very good Sr players. SC was loaded that year with it being the 1st year of Steele HS and the overwhelming majority of the players electing to remain at SC gave them a very deep talent pool that year. SC promptly spanked everybody in their schedule including 4 non-district 5a playoff teams from the year before including a state 5a semi-finalist. Clemens went 14-1 and absolutely blew it against LaMarque in the semis turning the ball over 6 times while holding LM to 63 total yards and 3 first downs the entire game. Our D rocked them and our O and special teams gave them teh game. LM promptly spanked Waco for the 4a title the next weekend. All I'm saying is that Clemens was loaded that year and it was easy to see for anybody who looked..........which DCTF obviously did not. I'm not sure why this was but in this case they missed a loaded team completely on their predictions that year. No doubt it is a cool magazine with a ton of information in it. I'm just not sure at all about how that information is gathered.

They wiffed again this year on Calallen. Probably so, but we'll just let it work itself on the field to see if it's correct or not.

I really think Calallen is going to be real good this year. They have a lot of starters on both sides of the ball coming back this year. That nasty defense is going kill it, and I think their offense is going to surprise some people.

No doubt about their Defense. But the offense is terrible. They'll put up points against bad teams.

I'm just not sure at all about how that information is gathered. Yep. Again, Tennessee has nothing like this. As far as I know, most of their info comes straight from the horse's mouth (i.e. the coaches.) That's a double-edged sword; obviously the coach knows more about his program than anybody else, but that also means the info they're getting isn't exactly unbiased. Then again, unbiased information about high school programs is difficult to come by. If you've seen a team play enough to have a fully-formed opinion about them, you're probably (a) a fan, (b) a parent, (c) a coach, or (d) a sportswriter, and only the last one can reasonably be expected to have an unbiased opinion. But, even that last one is in question because some high school beat writers do tend to be homers. I mean, I can give you a reasonably unbiased opinion about, say, Azle, but then I saw them play exactly once last year. My main critique of DCTF's preseason predictions is that they tend to put way too much stock in past performance, such that they frequently get blindsided by a program on the upswing (or downswing, as the case may be.) Looking through Region 1, most of their district predictions look little different from how they finished last year, if at all. 5-4A is exactly the same as the finish last year (excepting that they sorted out the three-way tie for third.) Would the district's coaches, or even the beat writers in the district have that?

The magazine is fine....its a statewide magazine and its a big state....but it does provide the reader with some insight into other parts of the state.....
sounds like a bunch of people butt hurt because they feel slighted by a rag....not sure of another publication that provides insight into the entire state...

LOL Yeah, something like that vf! They have Steele #2 in 5a pre-season........I'd actually rather not have my team in the top 10 to start the year and give the kids adn staff a chip on their shoulder and a hunger in their guts to go out there and bust their a** and Git r done!

No doubt about their Defense. But the offense is terrible. They'll put up points against bad teams. You SHOULD know by now that comparing one teams performance one year and saying it will be the exact can be dangerous in regards to a GOOD program like Calallen. If your program sucks year after year, then it's OK. But if you wish, go ahead and predict what you want. I'm just saying the last time we had a real early exit from the playoffs and had an offense that kind of was sub-par, we went to the State Semi finals the following year. That would be the 2010 team. We will have a new look on offense along with some lower class men who chomping at the bit for the season to get here. Along with some new faces to the district as well. And in the last three decades, not too many mediocre seasons by our standards have been followed up with another.

Yeah. 'Nother weird thing I've noticed about DCTF is this sort of thing: in 5A, Steele is #2, Katy is #3, Westlake is #8. Yet, they've got Katy beating Steele in the semis and then losing to Westlake in the finals. Doesn't make a ton of sense. If you think Westlake's better than those two why are they ranked lower? I'm fine with the #1 ranking, mostly because Guyer's first game of the season will provide a reality check if they let the press clippings get to their heads.
