FB missed some block assignments and got burned with DBs looking in the backfield a couple of times. I think they lost focus a little after jumping out to a 28 to 0 lead in the first half. Just can not do that. Gotta stay sharp all four quarters. The score 35 to 25 makes it look closer than it was as Ray scored their last with one minute eleven seconds but that is not the point. Much harder competition will be down the road in the playoffs and any let down will get you beat. Having said that much improvement as the season goes on but still plenty of room for more. The wind played havoc with the passing and kicking game last night so it was good to see the ability to adapt to that. Kicks into the wind all looked like pooch kicks almost coming back at you at the end of their flight. Keep working hard Hornets it is paying off.

For the six that thought Ray would win, I would hope this shows FB is better than you thought. FB's defense was almost perfect in the first half.

I saw lots of a$$ chewing for some of the linemen during the game. We have two weeks to work on execution before it gets serious. I hope we can find a winning combination on the OL during this time. We have Villareal back now and McDonald should be ready as well. We need Charles to regain his motivation and drive that he had last year or let someone else have a shot. We are close on offense, just need some minor details hammered out.
The D looked great in the first half and then blew too many coverages in the second half. I know Steinbruck will teach those kids what went wrong. I hope he remembers we have a couple of other DB's that can play and should play after someone gets burned a couple of times. We can't have poor tackling and letting a receiver get behind you in the playoffs. You have to prevent the pass first, then come up for run support. Mental errors will be our downfall on D. We have the athletes, but that won't go very far if they don't think on EVERY play.
I'm not sure how plays are charted and kept during the game and if the coaches review it from time to time, but the screen pass we threw at the beginning of the game was wide open and we gained significant yards on it. I never saw that particular screen run again though. We tried a middle screeen, but when you gave a kid as tall and athletic as Breckenridge across from you, it's hard to get a ball over him. We did run a lot of the veer though and got minimal yards. I would have rather seen the Power I when we were running the clock in the 3rd quarter. The chance of a fumble or negative yards is too great with the option, especially when you OL is having problems getting their block or more importantly holding their block long enough for a play to develop. Also, the less we throw Mims into the lion's den right now the better.
I hope we use the next couple of games to execute better in the first half and get a good enough lead that the back ups can get some glory. Let's keep everyone healthy for the second season.

Pull your heads out your....... any ways how do you like the weather?

Pull your heads out your....... any ways how do you like the weather? As Jimmy Buffett sings.............The Weather is Here, Wish you were Beautiful...one of my favorite Buffett songs! CFWB and I and a couple of boys headed to the ranch after the game on Friday and thank God for pear burners! We had almost 2 inches in the rain guage which was great surprise, but all the firewood was wet so we had to hit it for about 10 minutes with a pear burner to get it going, but once we did, it sure was nice! Looks like the lows in the 50's are gone for now, but it will still be milder that what we had.
