I went to the coach's / parents meeting last night. The coaches had some really nice things to say about our kids. The head coach said that this was not just the most talented group they've ever had but that they are the best group of kids yet. He said they are all very disciplined, respectful, and very hard working. We started 7th grade last year with over 180 kids and ended with about 150. We still have 150+ playing this year in 8th grade so the kids are sticking with it and that is great to see to have such a large group. The teams were selected and my boy made the A team again which surprised me a bit since he was not able to lift a whole lot these last few months due to 'growing pains'. He grew more than 4" since last year! He is now 5'11" and 160..............TOO SKINNY! LOL. They talked a little bit last night about the talent level and what is expected of this group and all I'm going to post here is that they've set the bar very, very high for this group of kids. Enough so that the few kids that were there were pretty wide-eyed as were damn near all the parents. The staff we have in place from Jinks on down simply put......has their act together. We are very blessed to have a lot of growth, a ton of talent, and a top notch coaching staff in place to take full advantage of it all. We went 8-0 last year and outscored the 8 teams 316-0. I don't see going unscored on happening again but I believe these kids have a great shot of another undefeated year if they put the work in. We have lost both our #1 & #2 QBs from last year. The #1 lives in the area that was re-zoned into Clemens out of Steele & the #2 moved out of district. We will have to have some of the other QBs step up big time. The good news is we have a couple of good looking new kids. One is 6'0" and about 260.......maybe a bit bigger! 2012................let's get it on!

Good to hear about how the team down at Dobie are doing. Our group had about 100 kids and it was an interesting ride. In 7th grade A team had a 7-0-1 district championship, but ALOT of big heads grew thinking they could do it again but the best that they could muster up was a 4-3-1 (both ties came against SV BTW) while us C Teamers went undefeated giving up only one TD all year! But, I just hope you guys don't end up like us and stay focused and work hard all season long, but those coaches are good ones and I wouldn't be surprised if y'all do good this year. I'm a little bit shocked how the rezoning shows little effect yet with those numbers, though. Congrats to the boy on making the A Team again and good luck to you guys this season. I hope I can make a game on an off week myself so I can see what this group is made of.

Defense picked up where they left off and dominated Corbett. Offense only scored 2 TDs though and Corbett is MUCH improved for sure! They had some really good sized, fast kids. I believe we scored 5, maybe 6 TDs on them last year in only about 10 plays or so. Clemens has some more good ones on the way up! Our O-line needs work big time but my boy blocked very well himself made his block on 9 of 10 plays and actually had 4 plays where he drove block the DT 7+ yards down field. He locked up on him and handled him well.

Just checking in on how the team is doing, and i'm glad to see that both teams did well in the scrimmage. And I see that next wednesday's game is open for me to see, although I might be late due to practice ending, but I'll try to make that one.
Now to this week, starting off with Canyon. Y'all should breeze by them purty easily. Keep us posted!

Well, I hope so. I know the coaches are working them pretty hard and they are getting after it. We'll soon see how they look.
Next week's game is against one of the new schools we added this year, Legacy MS....a East Central feeder school.

Yup, we never played the EC schools, and I wonder if they're farther than the SV and Seguin schools. Now talk about a long ride to Barnes for the basketball game. Fun times.

EC schools are not far at all. 1518 all the way to 1604 and then to 87. 87 towards SA as one is near the HS and the other is right on 410 just south of IH-10. 25 miles or so from Dobie........& much closer to our place!

We started out the season good this afternoon with a 34-0 win over NB Canyon. Defense really, really brought it and allowed only 2 first downs in the game.
We actually ran a 5 man D line in this game to slow up the canyon run game. Our starting D line looked like this: 180 210 220 220 270+ And the scary part is that all but the big fella are very athletic kids.

You should have seen........& heard some of the licks they laid yesterday.

Talk about crazy power! Interesting how most of the group stayed together from the rezoning. Is it too early to name the 2016 state champions yet?

Interesting how most of the group stayed together from the rezoning. Is it too early to name the 2016 state champions yet? I don't see where I named them 8th grade champoins of their district much less 2016 state champions. I do like our chances of going 8-0 again this year simply because this defense is special, very special. our offense is a bit off from last year but still managed 5 TDs the other day so I think we'll get better. We have to play two new teams that we know nothing about including 1 of them this week. I have no idea what they bring to the table but still like our chances with the defense we have. No, I don't think even for a minute that our kids can go unscored on again but have high hopes for them coming into high school at 16-0 and as far as I'm aware, that has not ever happened at either SC or Steele so it would be something to be very proud of for sure if nothing else. I heard our QB from last year threw some nice balls for Corbett this past week against one of the NB schools but had some that were dropped. I know that Corbett had that team down 20-0 and ended up losign 22-20 because my brother called me and was mad as a wet hen at their play in the 2nd half. So, it sounds like Corbett is a much better team this year and that gives me hope that they'll get it together and have a really good year and have another good class coming in to Clemens next year.

I was just kidding about the 2016 title and I made that up to be funny. I agree that probably they'll be scored but being undefeated is not out of the question. Great D and the O will get better from what it sounds like. I have no clue about Legacy but should be a challenge. And I heard about Corbett and they already look better than last year, so they'll be alright. It's amazing of all the talent at both Dobie and Corbett. Gonna be fun times ahead at both SCUCISD high schools!

Thanks for coming to the game this after SCBuffKnight. It was great seeing you again. I know my wife was excited to see you again. She again told me you were a great kid in class and one of her favorites.
Well, we won but the scoreless streak is no mo! Legacy (one of East Centrals middle schools) got a great 50+/- run against us with 2 1/2 minutes to play. The final was 46-6.
Man, that was wierd putting a 6 after the dash! LOL The boys were a little pissed about giving up that TD, especially the 1st teamers that were out of the game when it happened. I talked to a couple and told them to get over it because it was long overdue and was bound to happen sooner or later.
Proud of our kids for sure and now in 10 total games in 7th & 8th grade they have outscored the teams 396-6
