By starting RB, you mean T. Lumpkin?? What happened? I know he plays rec ball as well, I saw him a few weeks ago before I left out. Wish him a speedy recovery. Damn shame about Corbett's football teams record, from my understanding the coaching over there isn't up to par and that's a shame as it doubles the work the HS has to do by not providing a sound foundation. I just re-read the 8th grade A teams record... Wow. It was my understanding that that team in particular was supposedly talent heavy. I got that from a parent... Should've put my hip waders on I guess. Man, just hope Coach J starts demanding for knowledgeable coaches at that level instead of stipend grabbers. Oh well, when they get to SC they're in for a rude awakening. yes, you got the right RB. I spoke with his dad last night for a bit and he is fine. He had a mild concussion and could have played per the Docs but our district has a policy set in place that any player must sit out 1 week with no contact with a concussion diagnosis. He will be back today as we meet Oak Run Middle School for the 8th grade A team district title at their place. Should be a good ball game as that team has played very well and is also 5-0 at this point.

Tough game yesterday out in NB. Oak Run as a big, fast RB adn that young man took the first play to the house about 65+ yards!!! Great run showing some good vision, nice lateral movement, and then some SPEED for a big boy!! That said, our D woke up and stuck it to him and their team the rest of the game holding them to about 20 total yards after that. The final was 18-6 and our closest contest to date. Those NB kids came to play and they got after it defensively on us for sure.
I am not one to talk about officiating but I will here and hope all three of those refs are reading this! BAD game stripes! Blatant holds on our D-line entire game and not one called yet when we go up 12-6 and are driving for the 'nail in the coffin' score we are called for 2 holds in a row....down field no less that brought back very good 10-15 yard gains. Didn't help though as our kids dug down and punched it in.
Also, I have a question for anyone reading this that knows the UIL rules better then me. We've ALWAYS played 8 min quarters yet yesterday they used 7 minute quarters. I questioned the clock keeper and he told me that this is what the officials told him to do. I thought all 7th grade games were 7 minutes and 8th grade were 8 minutes???
We will take the hard fought in and be thankful for it although our boys were not at all happy with their performance yesterday. To date we are 6-0 and that is all that matters in the end.

Wow, talk about a competitive game. Congrats to the team. What was the score to last year's game again? Yeah those refs at OR suck. I betcha they were the same ones that screwed our game last year. Heck they might be the same refs that almost cost us the basketball game against them, also last year. Interesting...

LOL But, I do know it was one of the, if not the closest game we had last year.

Game 7 update from last week:
Dobie 22 Smithson Valley 8
Another pretty good game. Our O fumbled the ball early on our own 35 or so and SV capitalized and took an earlly 8-0 lead on us. From that point on our D was lights out and only gave up a couple really nice mid-range pass plays to SV. I gotta give to the SV kids though as they played very hard and they have a really, really nice passing game with a very tall QB with a good arm and a couple kids that go get the ball.
To date this year we are 7-0 and have given up a total of 20 points.

Our 8th grade A team finished up last night against NB with a 14-0 win. Offensively we have been in a big time rut to say the least...defensively we were awesome again against a very potent offense. They put up 58 points last week and have a QB that is very talented.
I was very proud of everyone last night for another 8-0 season and especially of my boy who blocked very well. He was up against a kid that was at least 30 lbs bigger and he more then handled him all night.
Here is how we did this year.
Dobie 34 Canyon MS 0 Dobie 46 Legacy MS 6 Dobie 50 Heritage 0 Dobie 28 Church Hill MS 0 Dobie 22 Spring Branch MS 0 Dobie 18 Oak Run MS 6 Dobie 22 Smithson V MS 8 Dobie 14 New Braunfels MS 0 Total 234 - 20
Last year we were 316-0 so for two years they were 550-20 in points scored - allowed with 13 shutouts.
I am waiting to find out how the 7th grade team finished last night but in the first 7 games they were 7-0 outscoring the opponents 256-2. The future at Steele looks very, very bright indeed as I heard the JV just finished up 10-0 even without multiple stud sophomores that are playing (3 starting) on varsity. I believe we have about 10 sophs on the varsity roster right now.

Yes, the 7th grade A team won district undefeated, B team lost one game to SV. And the frosh. overcame their early struggles to put up a 7-2 record up on the board (lightning cancelled the Kerrville game). Crazy talent in the Steele system for sure!
