Way to go FB Girls with your win over Calallen 3-1 Props to the Calallen girls...they have stepped up their game considerably since our first meeting this year. They showed up ready to play and were taking it to our girls early in the first game. We caught back up to them, but lost 23-25 in a very exciting finish. Those Cal girls are all underclassmen and will be a force next year. Our girls kept their composure and fought through the adversity of being down 1-0. It's been a couple of months since they lost their first match and the responded well by winning the next 3. They had some great saves, digs, sets, kills and blocks (am I impressing you with my vast knowledge of volleyball yet? ). They really are working together as a team. We have beaten Floresville before, but they were tough. The game is at 6 pm at Beeville on Tuesday. Come out and support the Lady Hornets! Andrus held morning practice last Tuesday so they football players could support the girls and they did and it helped! Nice to see the students and AD supportive of all FB sports.

THe bottom half of the bracket sure looks like a much harder row to hoe than the top half

Nice article in the CCT today on the Lady Hornets not getting any respect. If they play up to their ability, they will take care of Floresville tonight and be playing in the Region IV 4A Tournament on Friday.
Good luck Lady Hornets!!

Flour Bluff sweeps to region quarterfinal victory Hornets will play Boerne Champion in region semifinals on Friday
By Stuart Duncan Corpus Christi Caller Times Posted November 6, 2012 at 11:47 p.m.
BEEVILLE — With the all-important second set on the line Tuesday night, Flour Bluff 5-foot-7 senior hitter Brooke Luby actually out-leaped her 6-foot-2 teammate Shelby Harper for a key block which enabled the Hornets to take command of their Class 4A volleyball playoff match against Floresville.
The play typified just how badly Flour Bluff's volleyball players — particularly its six seniors — wanted to make it to Region IV-4A tournament.
Flour Bluff wouldn't be denied against Floresville, as it swept this Region IV-4A quarterfinal match 25-12, 25-22, 25-23 to advance to the regional semifinals for the first time since 2005.
"We're really excited that we made it. I can't believe it," said Hornets senior hitter Amanda Almond, who had a team-high 11 digs. "We're excited that we beat them in three, too."
The 22nd-ranked Hornets (36-5), who won their 20th consecutive match, move on to play 27-4A champion Boerne Champion in the Region IV-4A semifinals at 8 p.m. Friday at San Antonio's Paul Taylor Field House.
"I'm thrilled for the girls," Flour Bluff third-year coach Kara Wallace said. "They work hard all of the time and they deserve it."
Harper, a junior, did her part with eight of her team-high 18 kills in the final set. Harper also combined with junior hitter Caitlynn Mitchell for six blocks, while senior setter Katie Johnstone had 35 assists, senior defensive specialist Arielle Williams added three aces and junior libero Grace Bomba had eight digs for District 31-4A champion Flour Bluff.
The Hornets lost the first point of the match, only to blow out the Jaguars in the first game 25-12.
"I told our girls that we had to make a run at them," Wallace said. "We had to come out strong the whole time and start the way we finished against Calallen (in the area playoffs)."
Almond started that big run with a kill and a block, before Harper followed with six kills and two blocks to highlight it. Luby's hammer kill finished the spurt.
"We were really pumped up," Almond said. "We definitely knew that we could do it after that first set."
Flour Bluff overcame a two-point deficit in the second set with a 13-5 run to take a 15-9 lead.
The District 29-4A champion Jaguars (26-18) later closed to 21-20 before the Hornets scored four of the next six points to take that set as well.
Harper's left-handed kill — off a nice set from Johnstone — and Luby's impressive block helped Flour Bluff close that set out and take control of the match.
Senior hitter Alex Soles also earlier had a key kill to protect Flour Bluff's lead in that set.
The third set was tied at 21 — the 10th time that set was deadlocked — before Luby had one of her 10 kills and two straight service points to give Flour Bluff a 24-21 lead.
Floresville later closed to within one point before a missed serve by the Jaguars started the celebration for the Hornets.
"Our defense was really strong," Almond said. "We didn't come out and play nervous like we did against Calallen."
