Very true...that's the case with VW for sure. The girls swept Nixon tonight but there seemed to be some friction amongst the team. The coaches and players need to have a group hug and come to Jesus meeting before the playoffs begin. The only team that can stop this team is this team. I'd hate to see us lose to a lesser team. All these girls are special and contribute. Let's hope this was a small bump in the road and that they become the cohesive unit they need to be to win the Region. Coach needs to step in and get everyone on the same page. Can't afford internal friction when the team has this much going for it.

Let's see how she responds...it could be the difference in a 3rd or 4th round exit or a chance to play for the Regional crown with a good shot of winning. It's often been said that it is much more difficult to coach female sports. This year could be a great resume builder for her if she can succeed in the personality managment aspect of coaching. I'm glad I only have to deal with one teenage girl! lol

GOOD LORD THE LADY HORNETS FINALLY GOT A LITTLE LOVE! IT'S NOT A FEATURE ARTICLE, BUT IT'S A START!
Girls high school sports notebook: Hornets hitters strong By Stuart Duncan Corpus Christi Caller Times Posted October 9, 2012 at 6:20 a.m.
COASTAL BEND β State-ranked Flour Bluff's strong front line is a big reason for the Hornets' success in volleyball this season.
Junior middle blocker Shelby Harper and senior hitter Brooke Luby have been dominant in helping the 20th-ranked Hornets (26-5 overall and 9-0 in district play) maintain their lead in District 31-4A this season.
Either Harper or Luby has led Flour Bluff in kills in each of its district matches this season.
Harper had her district-high 19 kills for this season against Laredo Cigarroa, while Luby tallied 15 kills against Ray for her 31-4A high this season.
Luby and Harper combined for 26 kills in Flour Bluff's recent 25-8, 25-15, 25-16 sweep of Laredo Nixon. Luby also had a team-high 14 kills and Harper added two blocks in the Hornets' 25-8, 25-5, 25-11 win over Laredo Martin this past Friday, which was the team's eighth district sweep this season.
"They're two of our big hitters," Flour Bluff coach Kara Wallace said of Harper and Luby. "We definitely are going to depend on them and try to put the ball in their hands whenever we can."
Harper and Flour Bluff junior hitter Caitlynn Mitchell also combined for three blocks in the win over Laredo Nixon. Mitchell tallied 11 kills and Hornets senior hitter Amanda Almond had three blocks against Laredo Martin.
"We have a lot of strong hitters on our team," Wallace said.
Flour Bluff will look for more of the same from its front line in its big district showdown at Moody (8-1 in district play) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Hornets swept the Trojans in their previous district meeting, 25-9, 25-19, 25-15.

Good stuff JD. Thanks for posting the article! Congrats to the girls!!! I'm proud of them Clem...never thought I would become such a volleyball fan! The coaches and players have something special if they can finish it. Round 4 of the playoffs will be hard, but they can get there if they play every game to the best of their ability. One game at a time though and they know it.

Flour Bluff has bigger goals State-ranked Hornets have sights set on return to regionals
By Stuart Duncan Corpus Christi Caller Times Posted October 16, 2012 at 7:27 a.m., updated October 16, 2012 at 7:27 a.m.
CORPUS CHRISTI β Flour Bluff's volleyball team is state-ranked for the first time in four years.
However, the Hornets are determined to not only match the school's 2008 District 31-4A championship team, which reached the Region IV-4A quarterfinals, but to make it even further in the Class 4A playoffs.
No. 19 Flour Bluff (28-5 overall, 11-0 District 31-4A) is building plenty of momentum going into the postseason. The Hornets have gone 27-2 since starting the season 1-3. That includes victories over returning playoff teams Class 5A King, 4A Calallen, Ray and Tuloso-Midway and 3A Sinton.
"We've talked about regionals a lot," Flour Bluff coach Kara Wallace said. "After district, our next goal is definitely to make it to the regional finals. We want to get there."
The Hornets, who have swept all but one of their district matches, can clinch at least a share of the 31-4A title with a win at Ray at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Flour Bluff would take the district title outright by winning two of its final three district matches, although one of its goals is to go unbeaten in 31-4A play this season.
After reaching the area playoffs the past two seasons, Flour Bluff is also determined to return the program to its more dominant days of 2004-05 when the Hornets made back-to-back Region IV-4A semifinal appearances. Flour Bluff's 2005 team was led by 6-foot-4 middle blocker Jacy "Nikki" Norton, who went on to play Division I college volleyball for Arizona.
The Hornets have some similarities to that 2005 team, as they still have an overpowering middle blocker in 6-2 junior Shelby Harper and starting hitters that can hammer the ball in senior Brooke Luby and senior Amanda Almond.
Flour Bluff also has an experienced setter in senior Katie Johnstone as well as junior libero Grace Bomba to lead its defense.
The Hornets have gotten plenty of production from players in different areas. Offensive standouts Luby and Harper both made stellar digs in key spots of the first two games in Flour Bluff's key road sweep of 31-4A opponent Moody last week.
"This year, we've had the most athletes on the team since I've been here," said the third-year Wallace, who has been at Flour Bluff the past nine seasons including six as an assistant coach. "They're extremely versatile. They can play front row and back row, too. We also have a really deep bench."
Hornets reserve junior hitter Caitlynn Mitchell combined with Harper for three kills in the most recent showdown against the Trojans. Reserve senior hitter Alex Soles also had six kills, and sophomore hitter/middle blocker Mia Valdez and Harper combined for two blocks in Flour Bluff's 25-4, 25-11, 25-8 victory over Miller this past Friday.
The Hornets will look to continue to use their depth well beyond the regular season.
"I'm thrilled with the way the girls have produced," Wallace said. "We're peaking at the right time, and we want to continue peaking in the playoffs."
