Agreed. Regardless of rankings or ratings or however good each team is in absolute terms, Ryan always plays a really good game against us. If we want to keep our district streak alive, you're right that we'd be better off playing them late in the year. They've got the best shot of knocking us off. So do you just like the MaxPreps ratings or do you like football statics? Ultimately I was wondering how last years team compared in turnover margin to previous Aledo teams. I don't remember the number but I want to say we were close to even, maybe even negative in turnover differential. I spend a lot of time on MaxPreps because I'm the team reporter, so I do the play by play and scoring on game day. I'm not the one who inputs stats, but I do love stats. From what I can tell, it looks like we were +3 in turnover differential last year (takeaways: 14 int, 10 fum = 24 tot, giveaways: 11 int, 10 fum = 21 tot). The previous year was +15 (31 takeaways, 16 giveaways). I tried to go back to 2013 because I thought that one would be fun, but I couldn't find the stats for that. Anyway, as good as we were last year, turnover differential was not our strong suit. That said, 4 of our 21 turnovers were in that one rainy Shoemaker game. That game felt like there were 10 fumbles in the first quarter.

To be clear, I mean I'm the MaxPreps reporter, so what I do shows up on MaxPreps on the "ScoreTracker" where you can see the live results of each play, down and yardage, score etc. I'm not like the radio play by play guy or anything! Just thought I'd clarify, as the terms "reporter" and "play by play" can be used in multiple contexts.

It would be awesome if he was Deacon Barnes (Aledo radio genius statistician)! I'd like a pdf copy of all the Aledo numbers from over the years.

All things considered it is a great schedule for us. We get Lancaster, Denton Ryan and Richland all at home! Really couldnt ask for much more. The bye week is in a good spot also. Should be about halfway through the season if we can make a deep run.

Always wondered if you do the reporting from the press box or from the stands or by some other means? I'm always amazed how well you keep up with the flow of the game.

Should be about halfway through the season if we can make a deep run. It appears this schedule will work to our advantage as coaches will have more opportunities or options toward the end of the season to assess players with nagging injuries. The last 2 seasons we had to be extremely cautious with key players entering the playoffs. And I don't know if our depth will be as strong this upcoming season. Thanks for posting the schedule.

Our D-line rotation should be really strong again this year.

Yeah I just do it from the stands, usually over by the band where my daughter plays. My two sons are usually at the game with me, and they help call out things like minutes remaining or what player caught the TD pass or whatever, which allows me to put the data in more quickly and accurately and not get behind on plays. Sometimes I even let them run it later in the game. Fun thing to work at together.

Should be about halfway through the season if we can make a deep run. Yeah that's lucky, especially Ryan and Richland at home to hopefully keep our district win streak alive. And late enough in the season so if we lose then well, we deserved it. Should be an exciting season! I'm glad that we scheduled two strong teams in non-district play.

Seems like you enjoy it and makes me feel better about using MaxPreps numbers when I break stuff down in the game threads.

To be honest I don't even know what number the district streak is at. We are getting closer to 120 I think. But Aledo has several other streaks I care about more.
