Apparently Alice is going to the UIL to try and change districts. Where did you hear this?

Week 1. C.C. Carroll, 2. Calallen, 3. Sinton, 4. La Joya, 5. Gregory-Portland, 6. Tuloso-Midway... Obviously Calallen, Sinton and G-P are legit but overall I don't like this. La Joya was winless and completely blown out of every single game. How are they gonna help you improve? Carroll was blown out 5 times. How are they gonna help you improve? What team on Alice's schedule prepares them for the type of athletic talent you see in deep playoff runs? What team on Alice's schedule is gonna make the players realize the improvements they have to make if they want to compete with anyone in the state? This schedule is great for preparing Alice to compete with anyone in South Texas but that's it. You're the product of your environment and if you don't surround your environment with big boy programs your players are never gonna get it. Evans is the standard around South Texas and it's time everyone gives him respect. The balls on that dude to schedule Desoto. He also went after South Oak Cliff 2 years ago. He's the only one around South Texas that get's it. Now im gunna have to stop you right there! "Evans is the Standard"? He is not a smart coach, he has moral issues, recruits players and schedules teams that will not make his team bettter (Desoto). Desoto will destroy them and DEMORALIZE them. They were up 45-7 at half at the state championship game last year. Getting destroyed in a game like that you dont gain anything. Stop Stop Stop talking about Evans like he has done gpod things. All he has done is cheat and teach the kids how to do things wrong. Bad lessons dont equal good coaching. I have spoken Bingo on the bolded. It's one thing to schedule a good team and get beat 48-14(hypothetically). Coaches can evaluate and the kids benefit. Getting a total ass whipping doesn't benefit a program in any way.

I agree that a tough non-district schedule helps, but sometimes you can't make it happen. As far as Evans scheduling DeSoto, it's a dumbass move on his part. How is he going to evaluate his players when DeSoto is up 50-0 at halftime and a running clock in the 2nd half? I can see scheduling a team like College Station, Smithson Valley, Cedar Park, etc, but DeSoto is a different animal. This isn't just 1 season. This is every season. Nowhere in there could better opponents have been chosen? Alice hasn't had a monster program on its schedule since Port Arthur Memorial in 2011. And this isn't just about Alice for me. I'm talking everyone in South Texas. Even Calallen went from scheduling San Antonio area talent to scheduling Mexico City types.

Miller will not beat DeSoto but that's not all to gain from it. The underclassmen on that Miller team will get to see up close what state championship winning players look and play like and maybe be motivated to be even better in 2025. It's about the long game not just 2024. Not having guts and laughing about someone that does have guts isn't the flex that some of you think it is.

A) I'm sure Castellano was caught off guard at the realignment as everyone else was. He has ties with Sinton and Calallen, so I'm sure those games were already set. Coaches have one day to scramble and find opponents to play. Do you honestly think he's thrilled to schedule La Joya? Do you think he could call Larry Hill and say "Hey this is coach Castellano from Alice. You want to play us in non-district?" I bet he made a lot of calls that were not answered or the programs declined. You make it sound like these coaches can simply pick up the phone and schedule anyone they please. That ain't how it works.

Some of those Miller kids are going to have memories of scoring td’s against the “unbeatable” Desoto. And you’re right. When they see the size and overall fitness level of the Desoto players… especially whichever ones already hold D1 offers… they’ll know where they need to be. They’ll know how they measure up physically… they’ll have the next couple of seasons to get there.

And I understand how it works and that it's not as simple as you seem to think that I think it is. But you think ahead. Like him or not Evans made it happen somehow and this isn't the first time or the first big team he tries to add. You can't tell me that La Joya is the one that came to Alice wanting a game after they went winless last season and were completely blown out by everyone. Before you come back at me understand that I'm not just talking about 2024. I'm talking history. Enough is enough with scheduling cream puffs and not going big like Miller did.

Apparently Alice is going to the UIL to try and change districts. Don't blame them, but it will probably be denied. Everyone is talking about travel, but it's only two trips to the valley. Yeah it sucks, but it is what it is.

Okay let's talk history then. This is Castellano's 2nd year here and 1st year with the realignment. His only stint as AD prior to Alice was an AD at 3-A Taft. Now let me repeat this to you slowly so you can understand. Alice doesn't exactly have a stellar history in the past decade. I'm sure the phones were burning and a lot of offers got turned down. I'm sure La Joya isn't too thrilled about playing Alice either, but it's either that or playing 9 games. Trying to schedule 6 non-district games isn't easy, especially in one day. Evans is an idiot for scheduling DeSoto unless they made an agreement for DeSoto to put in the JV in the 2nd quarter.

Yeah it sucks, but it is what it is. Travel shouldn’t be an issue considering Alice just left a district that had road trips to the RGV and Zapata. In fact it’s pretty much a straight shot from Alice to the Mission area and a little further up-road is Roma

Do you know which two games are in the valley? The schedules aren't out yet, but being as Alice has 4 districtg games, two of those will be at home.
