I have a idea they are happy with their DC. Up until this year they had a record of straight District Championships. They also had a lot of shut outs of the opponent's. They have a down year kind of like Alice has had. Looks like they allowed about 25 ppg this season. Not great but not horrible either. But they lost to Marion? Not good Apparently the Llano coaches are overrated. Whatever they accomplished before is not paying off now. Can they coach ordinary kids or only stud athletes.

From above list was a Brownwood Lion and was in the famous comeback game with Bay City in Darrell Royal stadium in Austin and it was cold that day. GP had lost to Bay City the week before due to bad officiating. I made a deal with Coach Ray Akins for the film and air mailed it to Coach Gordon Wood . In that film the Bay City center would lift up the ball to snap it to the punter or kicker. The Nose tackle would crouch down in front of the snapper and when the snapper lifted the ball up, he would punch it. It was beautiful. The rule is the snapper has to move the ball backward only in a steady motion. Coach Craig Agnew's father was Brownwood Coach Bob Agnew. While Brownwood was locked in a do or die battle at Austin, Brownwood assitant coaches Wayne Rathke,Bob Agnew, Fred Gamble and Ronnie Fowlkes were in Wichita Falls scouting the Lubbock Estacado --Gainsville game. They were listineing on the radio when Bay City went ahead of Brownwood 28-17. The Bay City scouts who were sharing the Wichita Pres facility began to Razz the Brownwood coaches.. In between the whooping and hollering and bragging they even asked Brownwood coaches for their scouting notes. Thats about the time legendary ex-Wichita Falls Coach Joe Golding stuck his head through the press box door . "You Brownwood fellows better keep scouting and writing Coach Golding told the Brownwood coaches, Ol Babe has scored. He has the football and he is on the move again. Final score Brownwood 33 Bay City 28. Coach Gordon Wood was the youngest in the family and they called him babe. Coach Joe Golding was the grandfather of Coach Sonny Dykes wife. While this was going on and Bay City was up 28-17, the Bay City coac told his coaches up in the press box at the game to close up and wanted all the coaches to come down and shake coach Gordon Wood's hand in his loss. One of the Bay City coaches had come from Howard Payne and told the HC they had better wait because he was familiar with brownwood and the HC told them to come on down.. When they got down there to the sideline, Bay City had lost. I had gone up to the press box in the GP vs Bay City game and talked to Coach Gordon Wood. We were watching the band at halftime and Coach Morris Southall and Coach Kenneth West was behind us going over notes. Coach Kenneth West is the father of Glenn West who was playing in the Brownwood / Bay City game. He later became Coach Glen West of Brenham and Coach Craig Agnew became a assistant.

I guess you know how to copy/paste with the best of them gp37. Just wondering why you didn't feel the need to post up their whopping 5-5 record for 2023?!!

I guess you know how to copy/paste with the best of them gp37 . Just wondering why you didn't feel the need to post up their whopping 5-5 record for 2023?!! Doesn't fit his narrative. Of course he can trace it back several generations to Coach Wood. That's what the entire point is realistically. There isn't a coach anywhere that he routinely brags on that isn't tied to GW in some way. The rest he just hates on. See Harris and Rhoades as Exhibits 1 and 2.

Doesn't change the true statement I made though.

Coach Gordon Wood touched a lot of lives for the better. No doubt about that. He was a great coach, but there’s a whole slough of coaches who did the same, and still are.

He was a great coach, but there’s a whole slough of coaches who did the same, and still are. sotex you and Clem should post some of those coaches as others might like to learn from them. Lifetime Achievement –NCAA-Grant Teaf Award Named Coach of the Century by Dallas Morning News Added Note: I talked to Coach Gordon Wood about the Beaumont Hebert team when they were practicing for the Oil Bowl game in 19777 and told him he should have picked some players from that Team. He didn't think about them and said he could have got some from that team. They had speed to burn and cleaned a very good GP teams clock in the play off. It was the last year of that High School. I think their team by itself could have beat the Oklahoma All Stars. I made most of the Oil Bowl Games before they shut it down.
