Does anyone know if the Brownsville schools will be affected? Depending on where 6A numbers fall, the only Brownsville schools that could drop would be Brownsville Hanna since the enrollment keeps dropping along with Brownsville Rivera. It all just depends where the 6A numbers are for 2024.

Yea but how long ago was this? Probably decades ago. But I guess it makes sense now. I always thought it was odd that a city the size of Temple only had one high school. But I guess it all makes sense now. The city of Temple isn’t strictly Temple ISD. Apparently, there are other school districts that eat into the city’s area. School district boundaries rarely move. So to answer that, it was brought up in 2018, and the board and superintendent voted it down almost unanimously. They were going to add it to a bond that improved all the schools, but they said no. Again the reasoning was because they felt it would seem racist when dividing the school boundaries. McQueen talked about it as late as 2020 on how they will never allow 2 high schools in Temple because of tradition and not wanting to seem racist... as he put it, "the Wildcats are the only team for Temple, and that will never change!" templegis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=12d4618efbc44dca8193578614c866d6

The tradition part I can understand. Doesn’t seem like Temple is growing so fast (yet) that there needs to be a split into two high schools. But if growth picks up, then it’s inevitable. And demographic data collection is so complex now, that they can easily split up boundaries within an ISD to make two high schools be demographic equals.

It is crazy how many neighborhoods are popping up. They just recently increased the capacity of the high school because it was set to only hold up to 2000 or so kids, but they have more than that. They have a lot of good ol boys making decisions.

With Long Creek opening with 2 grades, it looks that New Braunfels High will be close to dropping to 5A. Any input from NB folks?

So LCHS should have projected 9-10th graders for 2024 multiplied by 1.33, and NBHS should just use projected 9-12 for 2024. That is, unless LCHS will not compete in any varsity sports for the entire cycle.

If you know how to game the system there are ways around it....I think the UIL has closed some of those loopholes and I believe since Long Creek isn't opening til 2024 (snapshot in Oct 2023) and isn't playing varsity sports (at any level) until 2025 I dont think NBISD can use an estimate....but I need to call the UIL and confirm that

Long Creek technically won’t exist in 2023-2024 school year yet. You’re right. It’s has been and will continue to be a freshman campus this upcoming year. NB should in the 3,000 range. That number is volatile of course. I’m less familiar on how the UIL handles school openings. New Braunfels Canyon (Comal ISD) has never had 5A numbers, so I don’t know they’ve managed to be in 5A for 4 years. It may just be due to the growth in the area. There are houses and apartments popping up like weeds in the Canyon attendance zone. Even NB Canyon’s branch-off school Davenport has a chance to jump to 5A in the next realignment.

I'm guessing Davenport opening up had a lot to do with it and the likely projected drop in NBC's numbers didn't match up with what the projections were after it opened up.
