I really want to see what BC does to bounce back. The culture of accountability has made a 180 since Coach Ellis. The SV culture - where no one is comfortable being a backup - is truly impressive X’s and O’s, are important but getting everyone to summer workouts is even more important. That’s because the coach before wasn’t accountable for the mistake he made at starting the wrong QB in 2021 and 2022. It’s nice to be big and play football but just because you’re related to the coach doesn’t mean you get to play QB. That’s not to say a change would have helped them make or go further in the playoffs but many felt the pain of having to participate in daddy and “call the play for my best friend” ball

👀⬆️
Same coach who said he didn’t need to prepare for things because he was so experienced. Wasn’t impressed. Sometimes retirement is the best option.

This weeks Schedule for 5A-1 Region IV District 13: Friday Sept 27 Smithson Valley @ Pieper 7p Seguin @ Boerne-Champion 7p New Braunfels @ Victoria East 7p Wagner @ MacArthur (Heroes) 7:30p
Highlighted game is obviously the SV vs Pieper matchup. Sister schools playing for the first time in football, this will probably be a long-term rivalry in all sports.
For the District, two of the projected favorites in 2024, the question to SV is can they score enough? Pieper seems to put up points on everyone. SV has improved on the OLine through the season, and they have to get the Pieper front blocked. SV RB Sowersby went out during the first series Friday and did not return, so that could impact the Ranger running game. They have other guys who are good, but they spend time on defense as well, and Sowersby is the fastball. I like SV to win a close game in the first family feud.
I think the other games have clearer forecasts B-C over Seguin by 2-3 scores, NB big over Victoria East, Wagner big over MacArthur.

Seguin played a Victoria school in football several years in the early to mid 1950s. Seguin has not played a Victoria school in football since then. Seguin has played Victoria schools in other sports.

Seguin has played Victoria schools in other sports. Ok thanks. I think they have played each other in volleyball. At least I know my niece played in a volleyball tournament in Seguin when she played for Victoria Memorial. Three years in a row around 2008.

Thanks for the take on the game. good info here. The district title will be decided this coming week. BC & NB are my picks for the 3rd & 4th spots. Right now I'd take NB 3rd and BC 4th. I don't have a real take on NB yet. I just haven't seen enough to form an opinion, but they sure have been impressive the way they have won. I need to set aside some time to see some of their games. Wagner looked good early against Pieper, but after the first quarter, Pieper owned them. They may be too limited in the passing game to contend. I seriously don't think either of their QBs can throw more than 10 yards downfield. I don’t have a read on New Braunfels either. NB wins have looked good, but let’s be real. Madison, Del Rio and MacArthur are struggling programs. What else were they doing to do. I don’t even think they punted vs MacArthur. And the one decent team they did play (6A NB Canyon), the Unicorns lost by 17. You say Wagner may be limited in passing, but Canyon did some damage w their ground game vs NB. Wagner isn’t out of this at all.

I like your picks here and also believe the SV @ Pieper game will be one heck of a game. Though Pieper has been lighting everybody up they play they have NOT faced a defense like they are going to face this week. Calpreps is saying Pieper by 1-2 points. Both teams have had some really good wins in non-district with Johnson sticking out for Pieper probably the most. That one surprised me. However, I honestly think that Brennan loss for SV was a good one as it got their attention and got the kids focused. Since then they've been lights out. I honestly think these two teams will be very equally matched on the field. The key will be if SV can get pressure on the Pieper QB quickly and force bad decisions by him. If they do that SV will win it going away I think. I just do not see Pieper being able to run the ball well against the SV defense in this game. I definitely feel like the passing game for Pieper is the key to this one. If it works and works well, they win. If not, SV wins this game.

I definitely feel like the passing game for Pieper is the key to this one. If it works and works well, they win. If not, SV wins this game. Okay, Ive done some work on Pieper in advance of their game with SV. Not a whole lot not to like! If I'm SV on offense, the soft spot on the Pieper defense is the edges and CBs in the secondary. The safeties are solid, the front 7 are good tacklers, the DL is stout. Expect the Rangers to run bubble screens, reverses and outside zone to test the Pieper secondary's tackling. Also expect the Rangers to throw deep. I watched all 4 Pieper games, and that was the only true spot I saw that was suspect. On defense, the Rangers will be the first 4 down team Pieper has faced, so there could be an adjustment to their blocking. The Ranger D Line is good at taking the power run, and the linebackers are good at the counter. Discipline will be key to containing the Warrior run game that includes a whole lot of misdirection. The Pieper Oline is good at run blocking, and is really patient when pass blocking - they just wait for the pass rush and absorb them. The tough nut is the Pieper Pass game, which has a stud in Champagne. The rest of the receivers just run well, catch everything and are always ready. Pieper is so good at spreading it out, they can win without #2 most of the time! Oh, and the RBs can catch, and the QB can run and keeps his eyes downfield when he extends plays. The Warriors like to throw deep, but will accept short to middle depth routes in order to attack downfield later. SV will have to find ways to pressure without blitzing too much, and the secondary will have to continue to cover well. Tough order of business for SV. I haven't seen Pieper get much action on special teams (they hardly ever punt!), and I only saw Davenport try to return kickoffs, so with SVs history, that could be an advantage for the Rangers. I got my ticket, I think this will be a whale of a game.

I agree with literally everything you just said above bubbme! I honestly believe this region is sv, pieper, & fb at this time. No particular order at all but I think these 3 teams are a cut above the rest.

Greg Tepper at DCTF picked SV over Pieper - it was his #1 game of the week. Pieper split off from the SV attendance zone - imagine, if they were combined the team they could be in 6A!

Yup It would have been great to have that team in our district for sure. I honestly look at these 2 teams and think if they were combined about 1/2 the starters would be from SV and half from Pieper with SV probably having a couple more. Both teams I feel are about that equal. I do like SV in this game though but think it should be close. I just think SV will do the 'little' things better than Pieper on the field and the SV staff > the Pieper staff
