Another good thing about the Davis program it’s stopped the drain. Before Davis, every good program used shop the most talented players and talk them and their families to transfer out of GP. Calallen, Veterans, Sinton and even Odem got two players from GP.
Years ago in GP there was a very good young athlete playing peewee football at GP. At the time GP coaching was in a funk and his family left GP and moved to Austin. That young athlete is now the starting QB at Westlake. If you don’t provide great facilities and coaching you lose your future great athletes. Davis has plugged that drain.

37, if I buy a dozen eggs and find one is cracked, would I throw out the whole dozen? No, you replace that one bad egg. In Davis hiring he told everyone that in his program it would take rebuilding from the bottom up. The middle school coaches got reassigned and some replaced and he hired a retired HC to come in and coordinate all middle school coaching in all sports. He did a hell of a good job . He retired this off season and hired the varsity O line coach from Rockport to continue improving the level of coaching and the improving the performance levels at the middle school teams. You yourself has stated how good those middle school athletes are that are now entering high school. Those first group of 7th graders in Davis”s first year are incoming sophomore’s. 3 of those sophomores are on varsity and by district play more will be moved up. Can you not see the improved level of play? Every A team won district 7th thru JV and many of those JV from last season are filling varsity positions. I’m not going to say GP has all the best coaches but I did see Davis is hiring quality coaches such as Charlie Wright when a vacancy opens up. We will continue to see good talent coming up the pipeline for years to come because of Davis”s program. Bluecat I thought it was called “Throw the baby out with the bath water”. There was a coach at Brownwood that stressed every sport and Brownwood had a great golf team. GP used to produce great golf teams. I think GP has a very good player at present. I have a Soccer player coming up and a flag football player that has been playing basketball. My Softball player has competed in track and basketball. GP has shot putter that was 8th grade last year that will break Hayley Teels record. |

gpballer I remember a quote from Coach Eric Sosa years ago when he was a player. “No Slackers”. He meant players but in GP case it should apply also to coaches. I mention comfort zone. Nobody has been fired at GP since Coach Bruce Bush was shown the door. Sometimes you have to shake things up. GP has not been going in a positive direction since Coach Brent Davis came to GP. I am hearing some changes are being made that sound good to me. I make a lot of Middle School athletics. They have a lot of talent coming up in softball. One of them is my great grand daughter. I can’t wait until I see her bounce balls off the cars in the parking lot at Cabiniss. She is not the only one on her team that can knock them over the fence. Coach Brent Davis is the AD. GP has some pole vaulters due to West coaching. I think GP should be doing better in all the sports not just Football. Take a look at those Tennis Courts. Money does not buy winning. Good coaching makes winners. The AD should cull out his weakest links. My thoughts should stir things up. ‘Just the facts mam, just the facts”. Sargent Joe Friday. Football is on its way to its 4 consecutive trip to the playoffs. They have won district or come in second the last 3 years. Boys Basketball went 2 or 3 rounds deep, girls basketball were bi-district champs. You had multiple regional and state finalist in track. This program is moving in the right direction. None of these were happening Pre Davis. He wasn’t even who I wanted for the job, but he has done a good job Remember GPhater37 wanted Coach Davis called before the Superintendent to explain why one of our lineman missed his block when Brandon was hurt against Cal. Sure hope our defense doesnt miss a tackle all year. He'll be ready to fire all of our defensive coaches. Wish we could all be like Ole Coach Gordon's teams: they went decades without missing a single block or tackle!! |

Younger generation on here? Last time I looked all I saw was Geezers & Tweezers! At least we don’t depend on Depends yet. Geritol shots abound in this place . 37 don’t fret too much about the pronostigaters in here, they come & go. Then ya got the pot shooters who do a drive by just for the hell of it. And then there’s the deniers, a wicked bunch that can’t handle the truth. They want the truth to not be spoken. Shelve it, bury it at all costs is what they want.Im the opposite, sunlight has a cleansing effect that it’s better to bring it out and clean it up. Anyone in their encapsulated comfort zone becomes stagnant and performance drops off. Thats the same in business and coaching and neither is good. |

I guess that is the reason they don’t make a creative contribution because then you become a target. Creative comments like, calling coaches in front of the Super for a missed block?
