Calallen had their chances to capitalize on the takeaways they created on defense in the 2nd half but shot themselves in the foot with mistakes & especially that holding call when Medina scored on the screen pass. That offense had been dysfunctional since the playoffs started

Last night I confirmed what you and WAC posted on here about how Boerne High has risen on the quick with someone who has a former classmate and buddy on the Champion coaching staff. And it’s very spot on with what you posted. Again it’s crap like that and how Katy Paetow was allowed to use a loop hole last year to win a state title as a large 6A in a 5A body and other regional biases that demands a state overhaul of the UIL. I don’t think a whole overhaul is needed but definitely a closer look at open enrollment type scenarios. It’s ironic how the Boerne ISD prefers to have both schools in different classifications to prevent inter-city animosity between them, but these sort of open enrollment actions will sow much more animosity than having an inter-city matchup ever could. Now I see why New Braunfels ISD will be going the route that it has planned with every high school in the district being of the same size. When you have scenarios where a school district has one high school with priority over the others (see Judson ISD and SCUCISD, and now Boerne ISD), it can only lead bad feelings on both sides. Nope. The UIL needs an overhaul. Too many things have happened over the years with realignment decisions, to where and why they decide to play championships (see the current football situation). You have too many administrators up there in Austin with no real connection with other parts of the state other than Austin and the DFW area. There some other stuff we don’t see on the non athletic side that need to be addressed such as judging in state band and I got to see this ugly truth this year. It’s good New Braunfels is taking a page from Frisco ISD with that strategy. Comal ISD should try to do the same and not allow Smithson Valley to go back to 6A and allow Davenport, Piper and Canyon Lake to go 5A and then build accordingly.

Edna Hung 40 on their DC. Boerne hung 49 on Calallen's DC. 35 but you are forgive since 14 was a pick 6 and kickoff return. Bless your heart.

That offense had been dysfunctional since the playoffs started I wouldn’t call it dysfunctional. It certainly didn’t take advantage off opportunities it got in a few of these games and penalties hurt. Against Beeville and Davenport, we decided to go old school and ground and pound and it worked for the most part. That was done primarily because of the weather conditions, but penalties hurt and killed some drive that should’ve resulted in scores. Ironically that strategy might have worked better last night vs trying to throw at times when it was unwarranted. They were not stopping the run.

Can’t help what the coach’s and sportswriters rank us at. It’s high school. Players come and go. Talent levels ebb and flow. I believe this years Calallen Wildcats overachieved. Like every other school, we will have years when the base talent levels will be higher and lower. These are the variables. The constant is that our coaching staff will take what they get and make the best team possible out of it. This year’s team’s overall body of work and record exceeded my personal expectations. This…. We have to play in the district we are assigned and it did us no good at all. Of course we knew this in real time, but we had to wait until playoff to see it run it’s course. Save for one game against Alice, we had zero opportunities to have to overcome adversity until the Davenport game. I hope next realignment somehow we find ourselves shifted north to play along with Alice. If we lose one early, it becomes a learning experience and it lets the air out of some heads that might be too big. Both our team who played in the state title games had a loss or two. Well hopefully FB will give y’all a better game next year

Don’t know what Cuero has coming back, but they won’t be slackers coming in off a semi final appearance at worse or State championship win at best. I do hope we can find someone out there to replace that Mexico City game. They weren’t any worse than TM, La Féria, Zapata or Kingsville though. But still.

The ground & pound game worked very well for your guys & that did especially the Somerset game …. I did listen the Davenport & Somerset game on the KKTX station on my iHeart Radio app (I only listened to the 2nd half of that Somerset game, I nap the 1st half of the game since I was home sleeping after work).

Those of us that saw the Calallen vs GP game knew that Calallen was overrated at #2 in the state. I said the #2 ranking was inflated. They didn't have the talent to be that high. Their defense wasn't that good. Do you ever give it a rest or stop repeating yourself constantly? Smh

catfromwayback, expectations on Cal were just to high. This team does not have the talent it has had in some past teams. Cal had a kid about a year ago that had great speed and I suspect he has graduated. I think he was a defensive back and may have been #6, I forget. ”We” didn’t really have high expectations at the start of the year. Then Cal beat Cuero and FB and looked pretty good doing it and we got on board. Calallen had a pretty good football team this year but its flaws were masked by our crappy district (with the exception of Alice). Another thing to take into account, is 4A is not 5A. There are not nearly as many good teams across the state. I’ve had a hard time judging this classification. But hey, we made it back to a regional championship game for the first time since 2019. That’s a deep playoff runs and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Plus the better team won, that’s how it suppose to be.

Smh I doubt it Clem, then Yotes got embarrassed by losing to a 3-7 team in 1st round of the playoffs and now they want to find a way to save face by comparing their loss to Calallen as a success. I’ll give them credit by hitting the Cal defense at their weak spot the Def secondary. If I was a Boerne coach that would be the game that exposed that weakness. GP had the same soft spot and Boerne attacked it in every series of play effectively. In the off season both teams must work very hard to shore up that soft spot in the defenses.
