ur right there r great! people that live here or lived here. i dont think there is one person who has said alice is a **** hole town. we all know someone who does good for alice and we all know teachers that work here and that have been working here for years. but we also hear the troubles that go on and see with or very own eyes. and of course every ex alice grad would loved for their kids to experience what we did and how it was.. but when u see the struggles, u hear the stories from great teacher who have to put up with way to much . u see the test scores. the low attendence in schools .. like u said it happens every where and we all want the best for every kid no matter where they come from. BUT! first it starts in the home. respect for others and themselves and our community. but thats my opinion..

i think word travels on how things r at alice .. plus if u have kids the academics could alsohe a factor Alice gets a horrible rap on this site. It's not the doom and gloom that's being portrayed. Many people in all walks of life graduate from Alice High School, move out and come back home as professionals. Teachers, attorneys, dentists, doctors, realitors, to name a few All move back home and send their kids here. Even those who don't live in Alice, go out of their way to represent Alice, TX. My wife and I would love to move back home and raise our daughter in Alice. We are both PROUD AHS graduates. I personally know teachers at various schools in Alice that love their jobs, love the kids, and love Alice. Maybe because I've lived in different places, I can offer my different perspective. But Alice is no different any other town. What is hurting Alice more than anything or those that b@*tch about it, but contribute nothing help. Go volunteer at a school, donate to the boys and girls club, help coach a little league team, run for freaking school board. Alice is not a Utopia, there are problems and faults and unsavory characters. There are also good, salt of the earth folks that will are kind, generous, and supportive of the young people in the town. Captains of industry, academic scholars, leaders, veterans, all call Alice home. But of course, you wouldnt know that by reading the posts of 4 or 5 posters on this site. So don't mean to offend but I feel like I have to offer my perspective and stick up for my town. The proof is in the pudding. There's a reason Rockport-Fulton had 134 applicants and Alice only had 40. Rockport-Fulton doesn't have the football history that Alice does nor does the position even pay more at R-F and yet those numbers happened. Facts don't care about your childhood feelings. And I don't think anyone in here said Alice was the setting for Mad Max. Probably 99% of the complaints in here regarding Alice are about the districts board and super not the teachers and district employees.

And, there is no doubt there are problems in any and every town everywhere so I don't think anyone would disagree with what proscout said at all. But when you have school board members who think they are above everyone else, THERE IS A PROBLEM. Alice folks need to ban together and get those members out on their azz no matter who they are or how much clout they carry or think they carry!

Well said. The worst thing for a school is a board with it's own agenda and interest above that of the kids. As y'all have mentioned Alice has this issue, as I have said over and over TM has had that issue forever, ccisd has that issue, Killeen has been dealing with that issue the last 8 years now. As Uncle Ben in Spider-Man says "With great power comes great responsibility." And as Lord Acton once said "Absolute power corrupts Absolutely." These adults that feel like they are the shiznit because they now have power, and then they go and put their self above the kids they're supposed to be serving. They all need to be removed and brought back to reality. Those are servant positions not power monger positions. They are supposed to be fiduciary positions where the best interest of the students is placed before their own best interests or opinions. The kids suffer in the long run, as does the community. Alice as a town used to be one of my favorites to visit when I lived down there. The golf course was the best public course south of San Antonio, and the food was dang good too. Just good hard working folks and talented kids. So for them to have to deal with idiot board members hurting the school is sad to say the least.

Just good hard working folks and talented kids. So for them to have to deal with idiot board members hurting the school is sad to say the least. I grew up in the RGV back in the 80's when honorable people in most towns still served on school boards including the ISD I lived in. That changed sometime in the 90's and if people around the Coastal Bend think the Good ol' Boy/Compadre system is bad at places like Alice, Robstown, TM, Kingsville, etc. They haven't seen squat compared with some of the ISD's down there. You can go down the list of the ISD's save a handful that haven't had corruption scandals of one sort of another and within that list you will find numerous Board members and key ranking employees who have spent time (or currently) in a State Jail or a Club Fed. There are a few I grew up with or were a tad older than me that have served or are currently serving due to bribery for working sweat heart deals for things like $150 million dollar high schools and stadiums. South Texas has always been step child for so long in the state that the old saying about how money corrupts has stained some of these smaller towns and their ISD's because City and School employment is the number one employer. Hence the Compadre system rule the world and when a coach from "up north" or even from a successful program within the region goes in and wants to get rid of the deadwood, they get blowback. Same goes with Supertindents and the only exception where they gets through the head of the School Boards that are thick with stupid people is when the State threatens to close down the ISD. That kind of got Robstown out of their path to destruction because they were destined to become part of the Calallen, TM or Banquette ISD the way things were going a decade or so ago down the road. I look at the ISD I grew up in now which is kind of like Alice in the small town politics and I see people in administrative positions that I grew up with and know exactly why they are there. It's because their brother or cousin Joey is the President of the School board and their other cousin Mary is a school board member and their Uncle Juan is the Finance guy. LOL! I know people change and wise up with age, but then I look at what they do on Facebook and they are the same clowns in some cases that I graduated with 35 years ago. Go figure....

Extremely sad to see once great programs fall apart due to the corruption of adults...

Town with great coastal fishing vs being out in the sticks…… So as a coach you'd pick Rockport-Fulton over Alice because of the fishing opportunities?. Hell yes! But in the real world I’m not a coach and I love to fish so meh.

Town with great coastal fishing vs being out in the sticks…… Seibert left Rockport to go Sweeny. Which isn't exactly a metropolis. Seibert has been around the coastal area for a minute, maybe needed a change of scenery. Good for him though I hope he does well.

Yeah it's embarrassing for sure that Alice had 40 applicants and Rockport-Fulton had over 100. Neither their pay or tradition is what Alice was and they still attracted way more applicants. I think Seibert was at $95k after 9 seasons and Atwood was at $107 after 6. Town with great coastal fishing vs being out in the sticks…… I think some would.

Rockport used a well known search firm that has statewide reach and actively solicited applicants on social media as well....I haven't seen one post from Alice ISD about the job opening and I honestly haven't seen it on THSCA or TASA either...I think that helps explain why Rockport had so many applicants
