For a fact right now there are 40 external applicants. And I have heard that there are 3 internal applicants. over 50* After reading even more about the shady crap going on there I have to ask myself, who in their right mind would want this damn job.......much less what 50 people want it! I just don't see how any established head coach/AD would even look at it much less apply. So, I think the best hope is to find a diamond in the rough with a young OC or DC. I person will put up with a lot of distractions and bullchit if the money is really, really good (in any occupation) but I don't think this is the case here with this position.

How’s it going fellas! Went to the scrimmage Friday against Moody, then was out of town for the weekend and up to my eyeballs with work since Monday. Working for this district keeps me busy haha! Went to the scrimmage Monday, tried to avoid answering any questions about the whole situation. It’s a mess within the district. Really don’t like a lot of the rumors out there, but I will tell you as of right now they’re naming a coach before spring break. The arguing back and forth is immature already and it comes down to money. Heck there was even salty board members making a thing out of the recent TIA (teacher incentive allotment) which was created by the Texas Legislature for teachers as an incentive for maintaining certain scores and showing progress and visible student growth in the classroom in terms of test scores, etc, giving 19 teachers at AISD a substantial pay increase. These guys can’t get their crooked hands on that money no matter how hard they try. As far as the coaching search, I know that they now don’t have a favorite or front runner but they say they do have “a guy” in mind. The word is “the most practical”, whatever that means, your guess is as good as mine. They will still conduct interviews next week, which leads many of us to believe they’ll throw a curveball at us. I’m hearing that a “committee” of people “from the community” will be part of the selection process. Meaning, friends of board members and some of those “friends” are people that have nothing to do with the district and people trying to stay relevant and also include the problem parents that socialize with the board and certain coaches. Coach Atwood will be officially released February 20, so technically Friday is his and Joey Heron’s last day. There’s a lot more going on, and every time I think I can’t get stranger or worse, it does. If they're having interviews next week then surely they have already informed the finalists who will interview. Find out who they are and we'll all be your best friend.

All that crap aside it's still a place where a good coach can win with the talent Alice has. I think most coaches probably have big egos and anyone with a big ego is going to think they can be the one to change the culture of a program regardless of the behind the scenes crap we hear about.

There are a hand full of small school AD/Head coaches that applied. Most successful of the bunch the Taft AD. There is one former AD from a 6a school but he has some baggage. The rest of the applicants are coordinators and assistants looking to make the jump. One name that stood out was a stud at a local powerhouse.

And give me a break with the trash heap comment. Your days of winning at Vets are over. Start cheering for Carroll.

Cochino your guy is in the mix. If I tell y’all the local powerhouse it won’t take long to figure out. I will say this he was a QB. There is also a triple option coach that applied.

Someone asked about Kory Atwood, he’s staying until the end of track season then leaving. I’m hearing he promised his track guys he’d stay till the end, he knows the season is gonna be a successful one and I like that for those athletes. They deserve it and from what I know of, they have a good relationship with him. When I saw the applicants, it was 42. One week later it was up. Not sure what happened that it’s 39? Bradley Chavez would be a good fit for Alice, just saying.👀

packattack i missed ya at the scrimmages i was there at both of them. once again our school board finds a new low!!!! on all counts.. a committee to help pick a coach sounds dangerous! and if there is over 50 applicants there is at least a handfull of deserving coaches.. outside of what is here already. #dobetter Sat in the press box for a while during the Moody scrimmage, and on Monday, sat with some buddies from Ray for a while before making my way to the other side and sat with a former coworker.
