Yeah this definitely sounds like we are gonna be underachievers once again. If this info is true and I believe it is we in my opinion are about to get some crappy head coach. This isn't the kind of news I wanted to hear at all.

It’s possible to transform from within.
I wouldn’t do it in this situation, but it’s possible.
Personally, I believe there is some sort of black cloud over Alice football that can only be erased by someone who is not from Alice or anywhere near South Texas.
The Alice mindset ain’t right, as a whole. I don’t know how or what happened, but it exists in my humble opinion.
Gotta fix the mindset and create a “team first/school first/community first/everything Coyote first/one heart” attitude throughout the entire sports system.

Dear AISD School Board, Alice is 26-25 in the last 5 seasons with 3 of those seasons being LOSING seasons. You DO NOT hire from within when that is what you have been working with. I have no idea who has applied from the current staff and no offense to any of them but it's NOT their time yet. Alice needs a complete overhaul and spark and that's not going to come from being lazy with your hiring practices. Stop worrying about making your friends happy and do what is right for the program's future. Love, Sergio I hear you brotha. But something has changed over the last couple days. If I understood right, the board wants Gaza and Canales to stay on staff and stressed that the baseball coach can’t be touched either, he’s interested in an administrative position and has been for a while. Not sure what is going on with that but it’s being said that if they don’t go in-house with the hire, the new guy can only bring in two of his own. What a bunch of horse crap. So they have to hire from within just because you don't want those 3 coaches touched? Makes no sense. So it's not necessarily that they are going to hire from within but the new coach can only bring so many coaches with him? Not sure exactly what you're saying.

I spoke with Coach Brantley about Alice and he did not apply for the job so his name can be removed from speculation I heard he's been applying at lots of place. I wonder if maybe he got interest from someone else because his own wife was on my STXB page just last week all but saying he was applying. If I had to guess I'd imagine Coach Brantley probably is very interested in the LBJ gig since thats his alma mater

I don't know what the situation is with them.

The problem with hiring from within when you have so many outsider applicants is the next time Alice needs a new coach then good luck getting quality applicants to apply again. I wouldn't have a problem with Alice hiring from within if it was a Calallen success situation but it's not.

Here’s the thing with that now I get what you’re saying. But it starts at the top. You got a few trustees that get re-elected by the same people every election. They play Mr. Nice guy during their campaign and forget about these hard working families when they’re back in. You got one in a certain precinct that gets re-elected because he’s unopposed every time. He comes from a precinct that’s lower to middle class and nobody gonna step up to run against him, that and because of his occupation. He and two other trustees are at the beckon call of the baseball coach. The coach has been quoted as saying “all I gotta do I say the word and I get what I want, you gotta know the right people”. And the man ain’t lying, as long as certain board members are in office he’s good. The same trustees are out drinking and partying with him and other coaches and parents, it ain’t never gonna change. So the citizens see how crooked everything is within the system and it angers the community. You can’t promise one thing and do another. These people are only in it for themselves and it has shown for years. Ain’t no way you gonna get the community to buy in to anything. The trustees are usually split and at each others throats 90% of the time. Some for athletics some for academics. It’s a heck of a lot a me over we with the dudes in charge of making decisions for this struggling school district. I speak the truth and nothing but facts. I see it day in and day out being close to the situation and in social settings where some parents are also in the mix. Alice needs someone that will stand up to some of these clowns and won’t allow them to micromanage every aspect of the athletic programs.

A suggestion was made to hire within, yes. The board also insinuated that if the other route is taken, it would make a stipulation kind of that Canales and Gaza would be off limits. If a new guy is brought in, they would not necessarily be too happy about him wanting to clean house and if I understood the conversation, the trustees will have a say in that. So when the question was asked whether the new guy could bring in any of his guys something along the lines of “maybe two” was mentioned. None of it makes sense.

what happened to wanting the best person for the job.. i wonder when they r gonna start interviewing candidates That I know of they’re wanting to have someone in place by mid March if not sooner ya the longer they go with out a coach more its gonna hurt them.. getting things implemented is pivotal. or coaches will pull their name out of the bucket longer it takes
