Calhoun OL/DL Gage Spencer commits to the Air Force Academy. Will be on the Offensive line. and rejoin Calhoun Teammate Jarious Stewart who was the Calhoun QB/DB last year. Fantastic! Damn smart kids if they are offered by one of the service academies. Good on them and their folks!

Looks like Calhoun might be finding their stride. I believe if they win next week they get into the playoffs. Could be dangerous!!

Looks like Calhoun might be finding their stride. I believe if they win next week they get into the playoffs. Could be dangerous!! There are currently 3 teams tied at 2-2in district. Beeville, Calhoun and Pleasanton. Calhoun needs a win @ Floresville 1-4 next week to lock into the playoffs. And depending on the other games could be anywhere from the 4th to the 2nd seed. May be able to get in with a loss but not sure. Beeville Host Pleasanton this week. The result of this will have a say on where Calhoun finishes as long as they win.

If I'm looking at this correctly they will be going up against the folks from District 16. If they end up 3rd or 4th, that could get interesting. PLC could be a dangerous 4th place team!!😁

I think those are locks. with the only question being who it could be. D 16 4th will play La Vernia. Anything after that is still up in the air. Some very important games in both districts this week.

This team is playing their best for a while despite injuries, position changes & Coach Whit’s mom passing away may the lord bless her soul up above, but they should’ve beat Pleasanton they would’ve had controlled their own destiny as the 2nd.

They have had a walking MASH Unit on the sidelines all season. Started in the scrimmages. That made the move up of a bunch of underclassmen and position switches necessary. Then just having to wait for those kids to grow up in the Varsity game. Are they there yet? NO. May not quite get there this year. But a playoff game (or two) and another week of practice would sure help them for next season.

Now that the season is over, I went back and looked over the Calhoun Schedule and results. 3-7 Overall, 3-2 in District. Starting off with Non-District first. Calhoun went 0-5. Of the 5 teams played 4 of them made the playoffs. the 5th team finished 5th in their 5A2 district. 3 of those 5 games were by 7 points or less. In District play Calhoun lost 2 games. 1 by 21, 1 by 6. the 3 they won were by 3-21 and 22.
Bottom line is your record is what you are. Calhoun cannot be considered a good team. But they are not as bad as the record indicates either. It's not like the games they lost were by 30 points or more.
All things included I think this year was something they can build off of and they still have at least 1 more game to play. One more weeks practice to try and get another win. And another weeks experience for this teams returning players.

Javy you are spot on with this. Sometimes things just don't go how we want and we have to learn how to deal with it. Calhoun was looking like they wouldn't win a single game through the first 7 weeks. To be resilient enough to step it up and win the last 3 and earn their way into the playoffs. Now we just have to wait and see if they have anything for Alice. Best I can hope for is for Alice to do some record comparing and assume it will be an easy win. Alice is the better team this year and it's not real close. But Cedar Park was the better team in 2013.

And another weeks experience for this teams returning players. Even though Calhouns season hasn't went as they and their Fans had hoped. There's still things I have seen in this team and Program. Even when they fell to 0-7, They never quit. They never stopped believing in each other. They kept on fighting and grinding. Having Faith that if they did, they could salvage something meaningful out of the 2022 football season. Now, Finishing District with 3 straight wins and EARNING the 3rd seed in the playoffs. they had a big challenge against a more Talented team. So what did they do. They went to work. Followed their gameplan and took the elements in stride and came out with a close win that NOBODY thought they could. We could all learn something from this years Calhoun Team. Don't Quit, Don't give up, Don't believe those that say you can't. Have faith in yourselvf and those you hold close to you that with a lttle hard work and determination It Will Get Better. How long will it last. I have no idea. It may be over this next week. But I know, without a doubt, These kids will give it the best they have every time they step on the field. Calhoun is by no means the only team that's constructed this way. There are many others. but to come from 0-7 to where they are now. they know they are winners.

This was a comment Coach Wit made before the Alice game.
Despite the overall talent that Alice possesses, Whitaker knows anything can happen once the playoffs arrive.
“We told our kids Saturday that we feel like we’re playing with ‘house money’ now,” he said. “We’re going to be underdogs. We understand that, but we’ve been underdogs pretty much all season long. So, let’s go have fun, get after it and play Calhoun football and see what happens.”
Whitaker said the Sandcrabs do have familiarity on their side, having defeated Alice in 2020 and 2021 when the two teams were in the same district.
The Crabs took down Alice 50-41 in a high-scoring battle last season.
“We were successful, but they moved the ball very well,” Whitaker said. “They are an outstanding football team, and they think this is a year where they have a chance to make a great playoff run. We’d like to be the roadblock that prevents that from happening.”
While the Coyotes have been putting up big numbers offensively, the Crabs defense has been stingy during its 3-game winning streak, allowing an average of 14.6 points per game.
“This will be an opportunity for our secondary kids to shine,” Whitaker said. “They need to have a great game. And up front, we’ve got to get pressure on the quarterback. That’s a key for this game. I thought we did a good job of that against Floresville. This will be a big challenge and the best quarterback we’ve faced. This kid is very talented, but we’ve had a lot of success against them, so maybe there’s a little bit of doubt on their part. We may be the underdog, but never count out the heart of a champion.”
