On the BBQ side you are correct. Everything is "smoked" and shipped from a central kitchen in Downtown San Antonio. When I had an office close by to the one here in Calallen, I'd get their salads and they were decent. They do have good fried chicken and tenders which they make in house. Learned this during the height of the pandemic shutdowns and the local Popeyes and KFC would have wait times forever on Sundays for Chicken. My favorite though for Chicken in Calallen is definitely the Chicken Shack off I-37, but they are closed on Sunday. Almost always do pregame meal for games at Calallen at the Chicken Shack. Place is full of FB folks on those stops. Good homestyle cooking for sure.... The Onion Rings are second to none in the area.

I'm voting with you on this one. I despise Bill Miller's. I turn green just thinking about it. Bill Miller's is to BBQ as Boat and Net is to seafood. Hey now... Let's take it easy on a Corpus institution that I think only has one location remaining. The owner and founder pioneered a very effective way to utilize non electronic methods at the Drive Thru via the use of PVC pipe to get an order from a menu board to the window. LOL! Found that out as a poor college student in Kingsville as it was a cheap place to get some grub. He was (assuming he's passed on) a Chinese or Taiwanese immigrant who also made a big donation to A&M CC a few years back. I don't even think he had any tie in with the school at all.

Wow I never realized that the good folks of the S TX Coastal Bend had such fine palates! lol My criteria for pregame is where I can get a good cocktail. That's not Bill Miller's. Plus their food is just disgusting.

He's actually still alive. I know people who work for him. He refuses to spend any money to improve the place and make it profitable again. His family wants it to die off as well and have been trying to get him to sell it or close it for the last 10 years.

The homeless wouldn't eat there as it reflected badly on their status.

Bill Miller is the Taco Bell of BBQ... it's good but some people don't like to admit it's good.

I might be down, planning on bringing the camper down and make several home games. I wouldn’t mind a place that has good drinks.

Any recommendations for campgrounds around the Calallen/Robstown area? I’ve only camped in Port A and Rockport so far, don’t want to drive that far for the game.
