With all due respect, the score was 6-0 at that point at the beginning of the second qtr. Do you really think GP would have scored 28 unanswered points before half against an offense if it chose to that could grind out a lot of clock? Really John...... I know your disdain for Calallen, but at least give credit where credit is due. Pico, my point was GP turned the ball over 4 times deep in the calcat side of the 50. I’m not saying calallan didn’t win/outplay GP. Calallen fumbles. GP fumbles. Calallen fumbles. GP fumbles. Calallen fumbles. GP fumbles. GP fans: Hell, if fumbles didnt exist, we'd have won by 60. Tell you hwat.

I’m not saying calallan didn’t win/outplay GP. Seemed like the entire game was played on the Calallen end of the field. Even a few of our punts didn’t clear the 50 so yeah, there was a good chance any turnovers would be in Calallen territory. Our offense had mucho trouble moving the ball in no small part due to the GP defense, but snaps past the qb and some stubborn insistence on deep pitches that were consistently sniffed out didn’t help our field position either. This game is over. Hopefully both teams learn from it and get better now it’s on to next week.

Dooms is the #2 QB not Colton from what I hear. Now Dooms is #1. Anyone actually hear what was Reddens diagnosis? I spoke to a guy who was in touch with Brandon's family. Surgery scheduled last night. Both bones in his lower leg were broken. Damned so sad to hear that since it’s his senior year. Injuries do happen but this one really stings. Hope he makes a complete recovery and walk the stage at graduation.

Just saw some Canyon Cougar parents at lunch at Freiheit Store. They looked pretty excited to say the least. I guess they don't see the butt whooping ahead? lmao Well, they have taken quite a few the last decade or so when in district with SV, Judson, Clemens, NB, & Steele so I guess if it happens again they will know how to act.

GP vs Cal post game.
So what did we learn in the game? GP Defense is improved from last year but still a work in progress D line had some holes to fill and looks like they did a good job, not great but good, linebackers are better more aggressive this season. D backfield good against the run, still needs work against the pass. GP offense Again O line holds to fill, did good but definitely needs more work. QB&RB, unfortunately Reddens season is over and now Davis will spend the next month working with the QB”s to see who will run the GP offense into district play. Ones a Jr and ones a freshmen so we will see who take over the job. Batts took a lot of punishment last night, I was watching him and it looked he’s banged up but not injured. He did come back into the game and returned to the sideline after a couple plays. I really doubt he was pulled because of a couple fumbles. GP passing, just looked totally different from last season form. Didn’t even seem they ran the same routes? May be the Cal defense prevented some of them, but mostly seemed out of sync. Overall glad to see the improved level of play defensively. Not glad at this point to see GP not finish it in the red zone. Still the offense showed improvement as the game progressed but losing Redden and Batts basically both in first half limited GP”s offensively. Plenty to work to do and that’s what non district games are for, improved level of play.
I’ll let a Cal peep do their pros & cons.

Positives: opportunistic passing game, great skill players, defense looks tough
Negative: offensive line doesn’t get a lot of movement (young? Inexperience? Just don’t have the hosses this year? Credit to GP Dline Iono), butterfingers (which I anticipate will improve)
Credit to Campbell for adjusting the team philosophy to allow for more passing. It may be necessary this year and carry them further than they’d go otherwise. AND I LOVE THE HUSTLE TO THE LINE! The energy represents the Coach I remember. Keep working!

Super young O line this year I suspect they will get better as the season goes.

I kept hearing the Sports announcer saying the last time GP beat Calallen was 2014. The Coach was Matt Anstacio . Gregory-Portland 27 - Calallen 24 He was the peak of GP coaching. Through his leadership and coaching ability, he miraculously managed to beat the worst Calallen team in the last 40 years by 3 points, leading his team to the promise land. I can only imagine that victory will be how his obituary begins. I can see why you believe in him so thoroughly.

The statue to the great Matt Anstacio is being built in front of the new indoor facility for all of the Portlanders to admire. Each October on the anniversary of the Oct 2014 defeat, they will have a military parade in front of the statue and the Portlanders will be encouraged to leave flowers and tributes at the statue.

GP better hurry up and win a game against Calallen as we close in on the 10th anniversary of their last win. You all still have a long way to go to catch TM who is closing in on 40 years.
