I am curious to see the sophomore season for Davis. They always talk about the biggest improvements come between year 1 and year 2 with most programs. The way they improved from week to week makes me think that not many teams are going to want to see the red, white, and blue wildcats lining up across from them this season. I anticipate barn burners vs Cal and FB. Much like the old days when all 3 were dang good teams. It's a testament to Davis that the kids bought in as fast as they did. Reminds me of Calallen with Danaher honestly. Davis is definitely a championship caliber coach, and I see many in his future at GP. Not necessarily state titles, but I can see them making the finals at least. Nice post. We will all see soon. I know the coaches are optomistic. It was nice to see the culture change in such a short time. Alot of kids are complaining about the workouts now. Thats a good thing cause what doesnt break you makes you tougher. GP was good in the 70, 80, and 90's cause of the work ethic the coaches imposed on the players. Hope all goes well in 2022 version of the Wildcats. Yes those teams from those decades were tough as nails, strong as ox, and fast as lightning...In the 70s we lived in Portland, and one of the running backs was our neighbor, as a 3,4,5 yo I thought he was a professional because he looked huge to me. Good luck to y'all.

I ran into Dalvin Batts a couple days ago and he is a very humble kid. He asked me all kinds of questions about GP history and what he should be eating. Guess he asked those question cause he noticed my amazing physique. He said he goes to speed class almost every day and works out. I told him one month and he said yes sir with a smile.

I love the humble kids! Sadly it takes more of those kids to turn an entire team into humble kids, compared to 1 or 2 selfish arrogant show boats that destroy a team and turn the entire team that way... It definitely does not surprise me with Davis on how workouts are going. That man might lose a game or two to a better team, but NO ONE will out work his teams. They may have more talent, but never more discipline or work ethic. Just like Danaher with his boot camps, Davis gets those kids to go to their limits, then go beyond and create new limits... Sounds like excitement is brewing not only in the kids but the community around them, something I know was lacking previously on both sides.. it would be great if all the programs in the area would rise to the elite levels and make region 4 the region to be feared from 2A (refugio) to 5A.

If they actually cared, it would be easy to get the other schools up to the same level... it starts with firing the entire admin... then rezoning, then rebuilding the programs properly...

Speed is God given but make no mistake that speed training makes a huge difference. I saw some kids drop 2/10 off their 40 times in just a couple months. They can change just a few things if a kid is 'not running right' and make a big difference. 2/10 doesn't sound like much but it can be the difference in a RB getting the corner or not or a DB getting to a WR or not!

I don’t disagree but have have heard the following from speed coaches. It can be done, but most of those improvements are within the start or initial 10 yards and not their “fly” times. It’s possible a kid who runs a 4.6 40 time and another than runs 4.75-4.8 are relatively the same speed in the open football field

And some kids just translate quickness and speed over from a timed 40 to the field in pads better than others.

I grew up with a pair of brothers that would run step for step with me in two-a-days until the pads went on. I beat them by two steps in pads. Not sure why always thought they were slacking off. Was told by my coaches that I didn't appear to be any slower with pads on.

Two a days starts next Monday for Mercedes Since GP had spring ball the first day of the 22-23 season will be 2nd Monday in August. As much as I’ve watched Coltan Harrison this summer I’ve also noticed Ryder Harrison is really starting to impress at the receiver position. He most likely will secure a spot on varsity if they need another tall athletic receiver.

Every time I see videos of GP players on social meda, I noticed how much bigger and stronger they look! The Harrison's are both very good athletes and could have big years.

It could go either way with Ryder, he has the size and speed to compete at the varsity level. It’s up to Davis to decide if he should spend his freshman year sub varsity just to get more snaps and to get more experience.

I’m not a huge fan of freshmen on varsity, unless they are the clear cut starter at their position. If there’s a better choice that’s 10th-12th grade, I’d keep the freshman on the freshman team… allow him to feel great success, and also bond with his classmates. After all, in 3 years all those freshmen will be seniors on the field together.
