Kids who couldn't hack it in Calallen are now playing in Refugio and everyone seems to think they are all stars now...... Anyone can move down from a 4-A school as a third string pine rider to a 2-A school and all of a sudden be an "ALL STAR STANDOUT!" If you had not had the move in's from all over do you really think Refugio could still put up the numbers that they do? ? I guess it varies. Refugio's backup QB and DB is formerly from Beeville. He was the freshman QB and probably would have started on varsity on offense or defense as a sophomore. Instead, he transferred to Refugio after his freshman year, got stuck on JV, and now can't beat out a sophomore QB nor snag a starting spot in the defensive backfield. Transfers or not, Refugio is loaded with talent. And I believe GP's running back left Refugio, so imagine if they had retained him as well. No...Bisby's dad went to Refugio and they transferred from Miller.

Beeville is a poorly-performing district, so kids can leave whenever they want so long as they claim it is for academic purposes. That's why we have such poor participation in extra-curriculars. We lose a lot of kids to Skidmore and Pettus, and in some cases Refugio.

We should really stop talking about those transfers, I don't want daddy moving them back into this district to try and prove a point.. Hell next thing you know he will be talking to TM. I'm almost certain he will have wore out his welcome in bobcat country this year. The word is that they have planned on coming back all along so the little one can play baseball at Calallen - not that he would be allowed to or welcomed back by anyone

The coaches couldn't wait for Quintanilla to get into high school. I don't think he would be as succesfful in other prgrams right now, but he is tearing it up at QB for Refugio. There was no way Travis wouldn't get the QB duties...hell, he even split time with the senior last year when he was a freshman. He is even a better baseball player going 7-2 on the mound with a 1.2 ERA as a freshman and hitting .314. My son played with him on some select teams and he was hitting 75 mph on the mound as a 12 year old.

I have recently heard they are not coming back. I ran into the Mr. this past weekend and my son and I enjoyed seeing him for the short time we had. His family has always been great to my son and family and I have nothing bad to say about them. I wish the boys the best of luck in Refugio. I know they did not see eye to eye with Coach D, they did what they felt was best for their kids and moved on. Just wish everyone else would also.

I would be careful with that if I was them. Bound to dig up some dirt or half truths to put out there. "Journalists", snakes and scorpions do what they do.

I agree, I would think it's best to leave well enough alone at this point. Refugio has too much to concentrate on and prepare for and really donβt need to exert any unnecessary energy defending half-truths and rumors. I sure hope those boys don't get bigger heads than they already have and shoot themselves in the foot. There are posts all over FB regarding this news, most of them coming from Refugio players themselves. But we shall see ...
